  1. I was just about to post the same movie, same review - birdie. LeBron James is a pretty decent actor as well. I think the lead male (the guy from SNL whose name I can't remember) was a little ridiculous - an award-winner from Doctor's Without Borders who was also a surgeon for the top athletes in MLB, NBA, and NFL - but we're not going for stark realism in a slapstick comedy. Amy Schumer is hilarious, though. I honestly think her show is a bit overrated - every progressive arts and news publication drools over it - but she does a great job of humanizing raunchy, awkward situations to make them very plausible and satirical instead of just sleazy for shock's sake. The bits with Jon Cena as her boyfriend in this movie are great.
  2. I think it is telling that you literally only need to put "Tiger Woods" in the name of a thread to get tons of traffic on this website... Here we are 14 pages deep discussing whether his 4 majors in a row meet the criteria of a grand slam. I'm guilty as charged, but there's gotta be some non-golf people out there saying to themselves "Are these people friggin' pathetic or what?" Something about Tiger Woods has made him the most iconic athlete outside of Michael Jordan since I've been alive, at least in the U.S. It's interesting to see opinions from across the pond!
  3. If you can hit your average 130yd shot 10-20 feet from the hole, you'd be leading the PGA Tour in that category ! To compare - Henrik Stenson is ranked top 10 in the OWGR and he's tied for 10th in that stat at an average of 19'10" from 125-150 yards. I think you're not being totally realistic with your accuracy. Maybe I'm wrong. To get to scratch, you will need more distance. A 420 yard Par 4 at your length would take a perfect drive and 3 wood at max distance if you drive it 230-240. Longer par 4s leave you no room for error. If you start playing the back tees, they might become 3-shot holes before you get on the green. You can never go for Par 5's in 2 at your distance, and longer ones would be need 3 excellent shots. It would be interesting to see your swing to make a suggestion. I would gander that you make smart 3/4 swings and have a very good, relaxed tempo. Those are great qualities. Some simple improvements if you are athletic enough will add an easy 20 yards to your irons and 30 yards to your drives.
  4. I thought it was the $3.99 breakfast at Denny's ?!?!?!
  5. I want to boost my game with Adipower Boost Justin Rose -13 Ryan Moore -13 Russell Henley -13
  6. I just found this thing the other day and saw there were old comments on it. Aside from all the silly music, Shakira comparison, etc., is there no basis to the contention that starting the downswing with the legs vs. hips? I do see the difference in the swings of Palmer, Nicklaus, etc. vs. Woods. This guy also claims that Rory has the most unstable swing in history. Laughably, the vid was posted in 2013 using Rory's poor performance there as evidence that he's correct. Spoiler alert: Rory has won several majors and vaulted to #1 in the world since then.
  7. That's because my friend had him at -10 in the Bridgestone Ball contest. He wanted her to win. He just forgot that other people were in the field! I had DJ. I thought I was sitting pretty Saturday night, until he melted down worse than Three Mile Island. WTF???????
  8. Tiger's slam is a grand slam in that he won four majors in a row. However, as arbitrary as it seems, I think the definition of a grand slam is all in a calendar year. Otherwise we wouldn't be having a conversation about it. Both are equally as impressive, IMO, though the logic applied to the Jack vs. Tiger debate might lean toward favoring Spieth if he wins all four because the competition is slightly better now vs. 15 years ago. Suffice to say both of these guys are studs even if Leishman holds off Jordan in the next hour!
  9. What a bunch of babies cancelling in the rain storm earlier in the week! Can't a grown man hit a golf ball out of a three inch puddle? What a group of wussies not finishing in one day when it gets dark, suspending for darkness. Who the heck needs to see a pin to hit at the green? Didn't they play practice rounds in the sunshine? Just engage your memory for Pete's sake. Only pansies go indoors during lightning storms. Just put a friggin rubber suit on and wait for the jolt to pass. Sheesh!!!!
  10. Is it going to be another case of for another $15 you can get more courses, or is that all?
  11. The problem with requiring proof of catastrophic consequences to me is that it might be too late for anything to be done about it that isn't an incredible sea-change in itself. I have this image in the back of my head of a GOP Tea-Party caucus on national TV 25 years from now standing in the middle of South Dakota in November where it looks like Death Valley and saying "Ok, I guess you guys were right. Time to kill your neighbor for food or catch the first shuttle to Alpha Centauri..."
  12. I remember when Woods was hanging out in the clubhouse waiting to see if Sergio would beat him at the Player's in 2013, when he realized that he would be the winner, he turned to La Cava and said "Pretty cool, huh?" and high fived him. La Cava looked like he didn't know how to react. The chemistry between the two on national TV struck a nerve with me as forced. I'm sure I'm reading into it too much, but I remember getting this same feeling. I'm starting to wonder if at one point in time Woods had people around him - Earl, Butch, Stevie - who made him better. Now, Tiger seems to be flying solo with what he wants to do. He's a 39 year-old father of two, so he gets to do that, but Como, La Cava are just there to support Tiger in doing what he wants. They're less active participants. I don't think Tiger Woods is learning a new swing from Chris Como, he's just working with Como to reinforce what he feels he needs to do for himself. I got the impression that Butch Harmon was a teacher in the true sense of the word. Tiger followed his advice to learn. There's this hour-long special from 2000 where Butch and Tiger explained to a host what they were working on, and it was clear that Butch MADE Tiger do things, like a college coach would. Just some thoughts.
  13. Anyone else see this. Thought it was mildly humorous. https://medium.com/sportspickle/tiger-woods-fires-swing-coach-charles-barkley-6ad71c356392
  14. I woke up at 5:30 today, saw Tiger hit one shot - a 140 yard approach from the fairway to an accessible pin - and end up with a 55 footer for birdie. His divot was about the size of a Nerf football. What's going on???????? He's tied with Tom Watson.
  15. This is one of those topics to me where everyone wants to be an intellectual, but the vast majority of people just don't have the time to make the informed decisions they would like to so they are far more emotional than they pretend to be. It boils down to those who refuse to adjust their lifestyle because they think "science" hasn't proven that man-made climate change is a catastrophe on one end of the spectrum vs. those who see it as the most important topic on the table today so they literally refuse to use fossil fuels, eat meat, etc. because of the fear we will ruin the planet. I just try my best to do what I can and let the staunch supporters on both sides cherry-pick their scientific soup d'jour to back their emotional inclination. I never drink bottled water, I carpool or ride the bus when I can, I don't have a huge, green lawn in Phoenix, AZ like many people, I recycle as much as possible, etc. It doesn't hurt me to do so.
  16. Every time I find myself trying to do that off-the-wedge juggling thing, I feel like a moron and tell myself I should be working on something constructive. Maybe I should just set aside a few hours of time one day and join the club!
  17. I defend him only because he speaks his mind unfettered and I find it very refreshing. Reminds me of an even wackier version of Ross Perot I'd rather have Mickey Mouse as my President, but political rhetoric from the usual suspects makes me sick. Read the Teddy Roosevelt biography trilogy by Edmund Morris and see what a President who didn't give a hoot was like. TR used to skinny dip in the Potomac River to keep him revitalized. Imagine what today's press would do to Obama if that happened!!!
  18. Got several clubs, shirts, and shorts from them. Always arrived quickly, in great shape, and they have a tremendous selection with some great deals. No complaints.
  19. I think putting takes a much greater mental toll on you, which is why you need trust yourself and skills more. As others have said, even the best putters in the world only make half from 8 feet generally. Even a cold shank makes me feel like I just made a bad swing, but a missed 5-footer can drive you to drink. It's mentally more damaging to me. I think you need to get a repeatable, GOOD putting stroke and just accept the consequences. Speed is most important for not 3 putting by far. From 40+ feet sometimes I just try to visualize a hole with a two-foot diameter and sink it. I sometimes practice that way as well by circling the hole with tees exactly 1 foot from the cup. Work on tempo and routine as well. Make it an almost thoughtless motion. Putting is a very different game than diving or iron play. This is one thing from Dave Pelz I agree with. They're very different skills.
  20. Had to laugh in the car today listening to Anderson Cooper interview Trump, who said he would "Bomb the hell" out of ISIS-controlled oil fields in Iraq and then hire Exxon and Shell to rebuild them. He said he would "put a ring" of U.S. ground troops around the oil fields as the companies rebuilt the refineries. An ex-general came on after Trump and said "We have a saying in the military - you can't succeed in a 50 caliber world when your Commander-in-Chief has a 22 caliber brain." Quality entertainment for sure.
  21. I guess I don't know why you started this thread, then. It seems like you have your mind made up, so dump the 60, get a 2 hybrid and 5 wood, and figure out which you like better. Case closed! My advice, as a 12 handicapper, (which is worse than yours, so it's not an expert opinion), is to not dump the 60 (or get a 58) and hit it more than 4 times a year. I use my 60 at least 4 times a round. I like high, soft pitches, flop shots, and use it in certain bunkers. Filling a gap over 200 yards unless it's completely huge doesn't help me because I'm lucky to hit 15% of greens over 200 yards anyway. In fact, the following shot is usually hit with my 60 degree wedge! I've never used a chipper, but they just seem like gimmicks to me. Replacing my 60 degree for a chipper would be like removing my driver and replacing it with a wiffle ball bat, seriously. I'm a much bigger proponent of the short game motions prescribed on this site in other threads than the old-fashioned "chip" shot. I usually use a 50 degree GW on chip shots to pretty good effect.
  22. I hit about 10 shots with each club off a mat with no pro next to me and recorded the carry distances on a notepad after each shot. I threw away the outliers (on the low end for sure, but some of my driver carries were 265 and I didn't include them). I guess off grass would probably make a difference. I'm a pretty big guy and played college baseball as a pitcher and hit cleanup, so I believe my numbers. I also have a major problem hooking the ball and don't play as much golf as I would like, so distance isn't my problem. It's technique and consistency. But OT - I listed these as a way to demonstrate why I don't think he needs so many long clubs. To each their own, though.
  23. We must be thinking about a different net. How did you get 1/2" PVC pipe to bend with the same tension rate as the stuff that came with the net? Anyway, I dumped the thing and plan on buying PVC pipe and a net from Home Depot and making one myself. I don't like buying things and then needing to jury-rig them a few weeks later if I can do better myself. The Target product was around $50 and I can get the raw materials for $20 and make a weekend project out of building one, which I enjoy anyway.
  24. How do you get water under a dam?
  25. Agreed. I don't know how you could get along with no wedge lofted higher than a 56. No 60 maybe, but no 58 either? How do you hit flop shots, or pitches to short pins? I can't see the benefit of having a 230 yard club vs. a very versatile short game club. Are you that accurate at 230 to see a drastic difference between a 3W and a 2 hybrid? Here's my set if you're interested. I just got measured at a Trackman recently to ensure the distances are pretty accurate. Carry distance (within 5 or so yards each): Ping G15 Driver- 255 TM RBZ Stage 2 3W - 240 TM R15 2hy - 225 TM Speedblade 4i - 200 5i - 185 6i - 175 7i - 165 8i - 155 9i- 148 (seems to go long for me) PW (46) - 135 AW (50) - 120 Gigagolf SW (56) - 100 Gigagolf LW (60) - 85 I used to have a clone 3hybrid, but the Speedblade distance gains are so great I was hitting it barely 5 yards more than my 4 iron. Therefore, I had a 40 yard gap between my 3W and next longest club. That to me was a reason to get the 2hybrid. I'm also a proponent of buying adjustable lofts because I'm not good enough yet to lock into a club yet. If I see improvement, I may find I'm hitting one club 10 yards longer or shorter later. I kinda feel today like I would ideally like to have an adjustable top-flght driver, wood, and hybrid that I could adjust and not need others for a while. Then I could also keep my 3 wedges. The lofts and quality are what define the club anyway, not the number on the bottom. My 6i is really a 5i in sheep's clothing! Bottom line - I think you may want to get a 58 or 60 degree wedge and learn how to use it well. I really think it will help your game more than closing a 10-15 yard gap over 220 yards. Just my opinion.
