Anchored Putters Rules Change (Effective January 1, 2016)
meenman replied to mvmac's topic in Rules of Golf
Not going to disagree with you but that ship has sailed. Go with the arm lock, has worked even better for me - but if too many do it, the crying will begin all over again that we *have an advantage* -
All good erik, the 5 year old macbook I picked up dirt cheap blows away my one year old pc

So u proved the fact that I am *dumb as a box of rocks* ;)
-
Not going to lie, I am fairly new to the whole mac thing and an android phone user, so I may not fully know the difference,

Right now hooked on Out of the Park Baseball 2016. Basically play general manager for a whole MLB organization from majors down to all the minor league teams and play manager for the big league club. Got through 2 seasons without being fired and got rid of most of the overpaid players in NY. Was 39.99 on itunes. (mac game, not for phones)

DT Solos vs. NXT Tours
meenman replied to Duff McGee's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
opinions, I say those that swear by used balls are delusional - they think i am wrong. Bottom line - you always get what you pay for. -
We have had life, clean, cheat during tourneys due to the condition of our fairways for months. I guess it is still better than the old guys *root rule*

DT Solos vs. NXT Tours

Because used balls are someone else's trash or balls that are meant to die off in the woods/water/rough. I would assume that most of us do not dig through our neighbors trash for food, why do it in the game we enjoy? -
up to a 22.2 , and one more stroke for my member/member tourney next weekend woohoo!

We basically play a net version of stableford (once you are over net par, you do not matter) - is it wrong that i putt away from the hole once i miss my net par?

Seems normal for instructors. Years ago when i was taking lessons, my teacher saw me on the range hitting as bad as always and jumped out there and did something similar - very embarrassing to me since the range was full. My wife got a good laugh out of it, so i guess all is good.

This guy is making Plexico Burress look like a genius.

Just show up at the course, the starters or pro shop will probably know golfers of a similar skill level - thats how I met my first 4 golf friends and later on some of the others. I really knew no one when i joined my first club, spent months on the range before playing a round - and those months on the range prepared me for little. You cant meet anyone until you get out there. Ive played with good guys on this site when they traveled to florida and i've met some tools on here too - life is a crap shoot.

My phone is too big to fit in a drink holder and cost too much to use it on the course I have tried the phone GPS apps when I broke my skycaddie and was waiting for a replacement - never finished a full round using any of them. (tried phone and watch apps)

There are no USGA rules for scrambles, it is not real golf. Other than that, the USGA has no say over your tourneys.

Dont worry about your scores when you start. Keep score, but dont stress it. Yes, most *golfers* cheat. My Saturday group takes 2 off the first tee and has their own *tree root* rule. 2 of my friends that I played with when I first started (both had started about 15 years before me) claimed to always shoot in the low 80s. Neither could break 100 playing by the rules. One of them finally learned to play by the rules and is now close to a single digit index. The key is, go out, have fun and try not to worry about what everyone else is doing - there is enough in your head as a newbie - but by following the rules, you will become better faster than someone who does not. Shooting over 100, dont sweat not going back to re-tee off during casual play - your max handicap in any competition is 36 anyway so you are really not hurting yourself other than missing the pressure of not putting the second one out of bounds.

That's cool, I know warrior adds a solid nickel to your check every time you make one of these posts.

Another bunker hole out yesterday (for par), still closest sniff to an eagle is 6 inches.

I would say that I am improving, GIR is now in play on every hole with 2 or 3(par 5) good shots, not hero shots. Putts per GIR are always higher than putts per hole. The point of the game is to shoot lower scores, improvement is all in the eyes of the beholder - you like to count your long shots as more likely your average than your missed ones - they all factor in equally - a broken clock is right twice a day. Dont think for a minute that I am hitting driver wedge on every hole - its the reason I hate scrambles, when i only hit those 2 clubs it messes me up for weeks. I still have a couple of 360+ par 4s where even the best drive will leave me a longer iron - especially with trees pretty much straight ahead, driver is not the best option for teeing off. I use 13 of 14 clubs in my bag pretty much every round. I just never know which club it is that wont be used - yesterday it was my 58 degree that didnt get used.
-
Nothing wrong with experimenting - its the only way you will find the truth. But most golfers hit shorter clubs with more accuracy. I know I have better luck hitting greens with an 8 iron than i do with a 4 hybrid.

I played at 6600 for years because my friends wouldnt move up - every yard adds more trouble for a higher HCer. One mistake and I would shoot a 102. Now from 6000 yards, 90 is breakable and I have to be really hungover to fear the triple digit score. The change for me was 3 holes, one par 4 that went from guaranteed double to almost automatic bogey with a great par chance, a par 3 that is now hittable instead of a 190 yard shot that allowed for no mistake and another par 4 with a forced carry that took a left side tree out of play off the tee. Now i do not use driver on every hole (although I can) - there is something about playing smarter vs hitting as far as you can.
-
How fun is it shooting 3 digit scores? At a 22 playing back tees, you are not breaking 100 often. I had friends like you guys (mind you they are much older) - it took me years to finally convince them to move up. All of them are long hitters and they are now enjoying the game a lot more moving up. None of us has had our index change much, but our scores are lower - that is the beauty of the handicap system - it takes all of that into consideration.

My *knowledge* of your game was based on your previous post. You obviously like to play tees based on your one in a million shot, good for you - but teeing it forward will not hurt your game either. But with a little further knowledge, the only tees you are playing that are out of your league is the 7000 yard one - you are correct, the rest of them are not long. When you make a statement about playing from the tips, it comes across differently - colors mean nothing because they vary from course to course - when you say *tips* - it usually means back tees. There is no set handicap - based on Bill's original statements, i felt he was wrong - his more explanatory post made the *tips* make sense for him. Every golfer/course is different - but just because someone is a long hitter, does not mean that they can not benefit from teeing it up. If they learned to hit their shorter clubs, the score may come down.
