  1. I recently went through some heart issues and had a pace maker put in. I'm not allowed to play golf for eight weeks, they say I could pull the wires out of where they are attached in the heart. To say the least I'm a little concerned about playing again even after eight weeks. Anyone been through this?
  2. I felt the same way, I'm trying Vice balls now, we'll see how they feel and react.
  3. I enjoy reading them but I take them with a gain of salt. Basically I find that every review says the club hits further then last year, how can that be?? As said above you really need to be on a launch monitor to get some accurate numbers, but then I worry about the launch monitors in the stores, how accurate are they, do the amp them up to give you better numbers? Bottom line for me is I hit my older drivers as far and as accurate as my newer driver, I guess their hyping the club works.
  4. My brother lives in West Palm Beach and knows the Pro at The Breakers. He took us out for a free round, best course I ever played, couldn't thank him enough. BTW, he beat the pants off both my brother and myself, fun to watch him hit a drive.
  5. I changed all my grips, except the putter, because I wanted all mid-size grips. I did the entire set, driver through SW. As stated above it is a personal choice, how do they feel for you? I know some guys don't really care and some do. Changing my grips gave me the feeling that I had an entire new set of clubs, worked for me. I guess my answer to your question would be to change all your grips.
  6. Wow, you certainly have a mix of brands but hey if they work for you I wouldn't change them. I too am waiting to get back out there but this winter is a bitch, can't even get to the range here in NY.
  7. Not that it matters that much but what brands are you hitting? Set up looks good, I can't hit a LW that well so I wouldn't use that club, I know others love them though.
  8. $20 for a half hour. You bring your clubs, I even used my balls, (put theirs aside). Now this is the Dicks by me in Patchogue, New York, don't know about others. But I go to the cashier and she has the bar code for renting the room on a piece of paper, she rings it up, you pay and your good to go. I have the golf tech set up the machine for me.
  9. I have a full set of Ping Eye2s (3 through SW) steel shaft. Anyway I took the to Dicks to see how I could still hit them and how they would perform again new clubs. I rented the driving range/room for a 1/2 hour with a launch monitor. Anyway I was hitting the Ping Eye2s well, they felt good. What surprised me was that I tried other clubs, 7 irons is what they had, and was getting the same distance and dispersion. I thought sure all the new technology would make a big difference, I found it did not. Why have I spend all this money on new clubs with graphite shafts? Now I have t try them on the course to see how the perform once spring arrives.
  10. I don't know what my hands and arms are doing. Taking lessons again in the spring to help straighten me out. Good film, amazed the one of the golfers achieved a 100 MPH swing speed.
  11. As one disabled vet to another, thanks for your service.
  12. I've been playing for years, although my index wouldn't validate that. I just enjoy being out in a nice environment with friends and hopefully shouting a half way decent score. I also play in a league of retired guys and gals, some good some not so good. We play a best ball scramble to move things along, (there are usually 10 to 12 foursomes going out), we also play it forward because none of us hit the ball that far anymore. It is great fun, we switch up the foursomes so we get a chance to play with different people. I also am a bit of a club hound and I enjoy shopping for the newest shiny thing although these days being retired purchasing is limited. I just put together a set of clubs using my old Ping Eye2s, (3 though S), I'll be interested to see if I can still score with them. Anyway it is my hobby and it gets me out of the house.
  13. As a mid 90s player I would say you were fitted wrong, IMHO. I would think the G series club would have been much better for you. I believe it will take you a long frustrating time to be able to game the I500. Sorry, just me opinion.
  14. What is Evolvr, never heard of it. I'll look it up on Google, found it. I'll read the site. Thanks
  15. 75 gram shaft is heavy, most driver shafts are down in the 50 to 60 gram weight these days. I would take my entire bag to a fitting and work through all your clubs.. You may not need new irons, perhaps just a shaft change unless you just want a new set. If you're having trouble with your 4 and 5 irons perhaps look at hybrids to replace them. Seems like you have a mixed bag that you are trying to straighten out, a good fitter with lots of options could really help you get on the right track. Best of luck.
  16. No, feel like I'm in a slump plus the lack of golf due to the virus and winter doesn't help. Went to the range at Dicks, rented it for a 30 minutes. Bottom line I sucked having not played for two months, Don't know what is going to happen come spring, I'm thinking of taken 5 or 6 lessons just trying to the mechanics back. Currently feel like I never played golf before.
  17. That is an idea, maybe I'll do that.
  18. After watching "How to hit a driver" above, which I have taken to heart, I always flair my feet and follow those direction. It has help my driving a lot.
  19. Not as weird as yours and others have probably done it too but I was playing a course that had a lot of geese on it. I hit my drive and hit a goose in the neck, square, the ball just dropped down. The goose looked me 'thinking what the hell are you doing' and walked away unhurt, (thank God). Another time I hit a deer in the hind quarters that was in the fairway, it too was unhurt. I need to be careful around animals I have a habit of hitting them.
  20. As I have said on many posts, I'm 69 and have had three back surgeries. My swing speed has suffered, 85 MPH at my best. I was told I needed a higher loft and a senior shaft. The recommended driver for me was the Wilson Staff 13* with the senior shaft so I bought one. I have only had the chance to hit it at the range, feels good, dispersion is good but I can't tell distance because I'm hitting range balls in the cold. Can't wait for the weather to break so I can get out on the course and try it out. Unfortunately Wilson Staff is not sold in any store by me so I was not able to hit it on a monitor. I'm thinking of taking it to a Dicks by me and trying it against other drivers but that feels like cheating given I'm not in the market for a new driver. Would that be a dishonest thing to do?
  21. Nope, never seen a shaft break and yes it is a theory not that it is correct. Sorry if I m wrong, I apologize.
  22. I think it was Cobra that use to offer the "Long Tom" which had a longer shaft, (don't remember length), I don't believe they make them anymore because only few could hit them straight. Looked it up on eBay, shaft length 48" they are selling for around $100.
  23. In all the years I have been playing I have never seen anyone break a shaft. Hell the Pro's have 130+ swing speeds and they don't break shafts. The only thing I can think of this that you are wrapping the club around your body on the follow through and hitting your back/shoulder and breaking the shaft. If not when you get your clubs back go to a Pro for lessons. Shafts should not break even if you are digging dirt.
  24. I don't know if you call it a gimmick club but I'm trying a 9W. Trying it for higher launch and softer landing on the green. A friend in the league plays with all woods and shoots well so I thought I would give it a try. We'll see if it stays in the bag.
  25. I played Ping G15s for years then went to Cobra, then Cleveland, (I don't know why), but have just bought a set of G25s on eBay. I was fitted by Ping a few years ago and everything was 'standard,' black dot, no adjustment to length, perfect on the strike board. So the G25s I purchased are good for me. Had them at the range the other day, they felt great. I also like the look of the Ping irons without a feral, I think post G25s they have one, (but I'm not sure).
