1. great summary, big lex. Only one more adjustment is needed and that's ESC which is described in the link in post #2. And on a more minor note, on your point #4, it's 4% not 5%. ( I can nit-pick sometimes, can't help it)
2. I set up my spreadsheet probably 15-20 years ago and have not made any significant changes to it in that time. for about 6-8 years within that time frame I subscribed to GAM and was never off by even a tenth of a point. would be happy to share if you're interested
3. It's very easy to set up an Excel spreadsheet to keep track of your index if you don't mind doing it yourself. There is nothing complicated in the equations the USGA uses.
4. Yes, red cursive for "Tourney Custom". Black for "The 985". I'm guessing about '74 or '75 is when I bought them. They are really nice clubs and served me well for about 15 years until I replaced them with MacGregor JNP's around '90 or '91. Thanks GAA
5. I have a set of MacGregor irons that I bought in the '70's. They are called "Tourney Custom" and stamped below that name is "the 985". Any info on them would be appreciated.
6. Can't get the day off from work so I'll have to skip the outing. Hope you all have a great day out there.
7. If you don't mind an old man with a higher h'cap than the rest of you, I might be interested. Would be nice to put some faces with the names on here.
8. Anyone have one or has an opinion?
9. Damn, now I'll never know which hammer hits the ground first.
10. Definitely driving. A bad day is less than 10 fairways. Not a long hitter by anyones measure but usually in the short grass.
11. Not sure why you're concerned about what's normal. If I got this right you've only been playing for two months, you can carry a 6 iron 200+ yards and, with the i25's, your average miss is 12 yards. I don't think there's anything normal about you. Listen to the advice of your instructor, he must be one hell of a teacher.
12.
I think it looks really fun.
I'm with you on that one. Would need a CPA to keep my score but I know I'd have a blast.
13. bunker hole outs, not anything memorable but I know I've had several. Eagles, 3. all hole outs from the fairway and I remember every one. One on a par five and two on par fours. One from about 160 yards.
14. I have to believe that if you let it be known to the counter people at local muni's that you're looking for action in the "few hundred dollars" range that you'll soon have all you can handle.
15. Back in the early 70's I had bought a set of clubs from a place called Discount Golf that was a new chain store on the scene then. The clubs were called MacGregor MX and I was told by the salesman that MacGregor made them only for Discount Golf. I have no idea if that was a true statement but that's what he told me. With these clubs having such a similar name makes me wonder if it isn't a similar situation. Just a guess.
16. No one "should" get blades. One plays or doesn't play blades because they want to or they don't want to. No one "graduates" to blades, there are far too many touring pros that don't play them to ever think there is truth in that. The pros are as over exaggerated as the cons. As golfingdad said, there just isn't that much difference.
17. So, how is the experiment going? Just curious if you've been using them and what the results are.
18. I did just that last year. Picked up a used set of 712 MB's off ebay last winter and used them exclusively during 2014. My gross score average for the 21 rounds I played with them was a full two strokes lower than the previous year. Because of the clubs? No, I don't think so because my index barely moved which tells me my low scores stayed pretty much the same, just got rid of some of the big numbers that had been creeping into my game. I did shoot a 38 on one of my nines though which was the first time I've broke 40 in several years. Hope you like the ones you bought, Hogans were great clubs back then. I think you'll find they don't really help your game but won't hurt it either.
19. Just ordered a sky pro swing analyzer. very curious how much it will help in identifying my swing characteristics and if I can use the data to actually help my game.
20. I bought a set of 712 MB's a year ago off e-bay and they all have a serial number located 90 degrees to the right of where it says 712 in your second photo (the 7 iron). Certainly doesn't mean they're fakes if they don't have it, hell, mine could be fakes because they do. As David said above, if those are fakes they're the best I've seen. They look exactly like mine. So either we're both good or we both bought from the same forger. Curious about the sellers comment about the shafts though. One of the first things I did was re-grip the clubs and noticed a sticker on the 6 or 7 iron shaft (can't remember which) that was a hologram type thing that said Titleist (they're project x shafts). If you're not in love with those grips I'd pull them off and see just what the seller was talking about, might give you some peace of mind.
21. always wondered if David Duvals slide started with the weighted club he was promoting at his prime. Probably will keep wondering. Do like my Orange Whip though.
22. Just ordered some CTCream. Also bought a wrap device that goes into the freezer before putting around the elbow (my doctor did recommend ice). Will post again in the future to let others know how it all works. I'm with you about "the knife". Would have to be life threatening before I'd let some body mechanic cut into me.
23. If you look at the graphs that Erik put up on page one, the acceleration is TO the ball, not necessarily THROUGH the ball. The key is to never DECELERATE before contact (and I think Watson used that word) because that only happens because you made it happen. In a perfect pendulum swing max velocity happens at the bottom of the swing, naturally, unless you interfere.
24. I used to caddy back in the early/mid 60's and the putter always went with the woods. 6 iron and longer in the middle, 7 iron and shorter in the 3rd section.
