Who is the most famous person you've golfed with?

Laura Davies. -
28 Stableford points.

I try to play twice a week, 52 weeks a year. Even I don't get the time to practice in between rounds. I'm going out tomorrow morning without swinging a club for a week which I'm sure will be disastrous. But, it's still better than not playing!

Axing Norman as the captain because he prefers Omega to Rolex is a joke. Sad that he will no longer involved in the tournament.

In my fitting it came down to the razr and the 913, I only went for the Titleist for it's bigger head. Averaged further distance on off centre hits.

So I went to my driver fitting yesterday with my heart set on yhe SLDR. I tested it, PING G25, Callaway Razr fit and the Titleist 913. It was ruled out in the first round of hitting averages which surprised me. Get a proper fitting. I went from hitting a Taylormade Rbz 10.5 in stiff and averaging 285 yards, 18 degree launch and 3900 rpm of spin with a 115 club head speed. My fitter found me 15+ yards more with an average from 305-299. My new Titleist 913 is set at 8.75 degrees with a adilia tour stiff shaft (extra weight, higher kick point). My average launch is down to an average of 11-12 degrees, 2900 rpm all with the same club head speed. Big changes but it works if you just trust 'em!

That's only 200m right? I suppose you're right, if there is any sort of breeze hurting I'm hitting my 17* rescue haha.

I purchased blades early this year and added a club of distance. I can generate so much spin with them. My 4i often sits behind its pitch mark on long approaches. While my handicap may not reflect it, I have dropped 4 shots since gaming these clubs. My inconsistencies lie in the short game. Purchase whatever you feel confident standing over 220 out with a water carry and o.b behind :)

I discovered the sliding of hips in the downswing (awesome!) and have dropped from 18 to 14 in a month. Short game is holding me back, last round I had 10 GIR's and about the same three putts which is frustrating. Focusing on distance control with the putter at the moment and will hopefully be a single digit soon.

How do you get off to a good start in golf (first few holes)
brj872 replied to islandersfan1's topic in Golf Talk
Agreed! I just trust my swing, even if it isn't agreeing with me at the time. -
Two rounds a week most of the time, usually hit 100 balls at the range the day before I play, might squeeze in 4 hrs per week on the practice green chipping/putting split over a couple of days. I often arrive early before my tee time for more short game practice. The only time practice becomes too much, in my opinion, would be if you are further ingraining problems in your swing. Thus, making it harder to rectify these problems if/when you do decide to drop cash on a lesson.

I find I always play better when my mind is focussed elsewhere, not that that makes much sense. If I'm playing with guys I know and have casual conversation I seem to play more consistently. Doesn't stop the odd blow-up hole, which then starts me thinking about my game, and then the round deteriorates. After I consciously give up on achieving a good score, I start to strike it pure again. Funny game.

what is your go to shot from 100 yards in the fairway?
brj872 replied to onthehunt526's topic in Golf Talk
I normally hit my GW 100 metres, and 100 yards is what, 90 metres? So depending on the level of spin required, I'll either hit an easy GW (for a pitch that runs out), or a hard SW for it to drop and stop. -
I've had the Nike blades for about 6 months. Upgraded from Taylormade rac lts. Added a clubs worth of distance with my 4i maxing out at 200 metres. Not that I'm an expert at shaping, I can hit a pretty consistent push draw. I have quite a high ball flight but can knock it down in the wind (my home course is a seaside links). Even got suck back (excessive check) on a high 4i from 200 one time so they definitely hit and spin on quality greens. Would buy again.

So does this mean that all past points accrued now count towards the playoffs? Or just the points for his tournament win?

Yeah I guess you could move the focus from the correct definition of course types to: A coastal course that is open, and often prone to 30 km/h + winds. A course that is a lot more enclosed, narrow and shielded by trees, and more punishing of (overly) wayward shots. The thought just occurred to me today, as I am playing a Melbourne sandbelt course on the weekend, which will be quite different to the coastal links style of my home course.

Hi all, just wondering the opinion of this site on whether you think a links style course, or a more traditional narrow, tree lined course is more of a challenge? Personally, my home course is one of the oldest links style courses in Australia. While it does increase in difficulty with strong winds, I find it far too forgiving of errant drives/shots and am often able to save par without playing from that particular holes fairway. When there is no wind the course is made to score and I find myself missing the course I grew up playing, an 18 hole championship course that was once in the top 100 in Australia and hosted numerous Aus/NZ womens PGA events. It had lots of trees.

Never heard it either. What a strange name.

Being in Australia, all the international tournaments are usually done before I've booked my tee time. Our club did a breakfast and tournament for The Masters final round (Monday here) and it was great to see Scotty get up for the win. Day is getting heartbreaking to watch in majors that's for sure!

Yeah those box on a stick drivers look horrible don't they?
