  1. We burn calories while exercising, but also the o2 deficits caused from exercise create a continued calorie burn post exercise. Of course we need to eat properly and exercise to maintain a healthy weight, but this article is simply taking what is already known and stating it as though it is a new health breakthrough. The presentation would lead many to take the approach of "I'll simply watch my diet and forget the exercise". For cardiac rehab the single most important factor for a positive outcome is exercise. The same can be said for a healthy adult to stay healthy. I know diet is an important factor for both groups, as it is for loosing weight, but not the most important. Most people will take writings like this to suggest that exercise has little impact on weight loss and overall heath. That has always been my findings with patients and healthy adults, and I have never seen that attitude turn out well. In addition; they did not properly interpret the NIH findings that was cited. Last; A VO2 max stress test is the only universally excepted way to measure energy expenditure. M.S. 2. I agree, I was commenting on the quote in post 41 by CMartis. If I misunderstood that's my bad :)
  3. Not to be argumentative but they don't touch your aorta and they don't push your intestines aside. They do use laparoscope for anterior entry. That's just FYI but the real issue is some recover very nicely and some do not. Only time will tell and I hope Tiger is in the group that recovers nicely.
  4. SM Global is the listed manufacturer of ksig but I keep seeing people refer to Nassau Golf. Any idea why?
  5. The original pbs special, which aired back in the 80s, was even more detailed with the quiet eyes concept. They showed that the fixed gaze on the ball was such that the greater the pupil stillness while looking at the ball the greater the success rate, and this pertained to all shots from the driver to the putter. They used ams and pros and found that even at the pro level there was pupil movement. The very best ball strikers had very little eye movement. At the pro level this quiet eye movement separated the top pros from the rest of the field. The best could fix their eyes on a dimple and keep that focus through impact. They also showed how this could be trained. Of course beta blockers became the easiest way to accomplish this and they ended up being listed as a phd.
  6. Nicklaus had polio at the age of 13 which presented post polio syndrome symptoms throughout his career. He also had degenerative arthritis that created a need for hip replacement. While this peaked in his 50s it's a disease that starts much earlier in life. As far as flying around in his jet, that came later in his career. He has often spoke of he and his wife dragging the kids along from event to event in their station wagon while staying in cheaper motels. This is not intended to express who is better but to simply clarify some misgivings pertaining to jacks health and style of transportation.
  7. Wilson fg17 I bought these new in 1983, and I occasionally take them out for a spin. Surprisingly they aren't all that hard to hit. Perhaps it's because the head is so small that I focus more on the target and the strike then I do mechanics.
  8. Ping will bend for you. They aren't the easiest to bend. If you were at golfsmith they could've answered the question but more importantly they could make the adjustments you. Bending for loft and lie is fairly easy if you have higher end tools and a lot of experience. If you don't have both then WUTIGER is heading you in the right direction. Buy locally and have that shop ie golfsmith fit you and do the adjustments. My fitting, building and adjustment equipment cost me over $1500, and that was buying used. I was the lead club builder at a golfsmith for several years so that's how I acquired training, "skill", and certification. WUTIGER advice is the path to follow.
  9. 2004-2007 fw hit was 57.8%. There was a stat analysis I found that showed the entire tour got longer since 2000 and the average fw hit % decreased. Tiger had lost more accuracy then the tour average and his distance increase was also lower then average. The article was showing Tigers recovery skills were better then average.
  10. Sure is a tuff question but great is great. Gale Sayers was 4.5 0 in pads on grass and full length cleats,Brown was the same, the Baltimore colts o line avg 295 pounds, whitey ford threw 90 plus for 9 innings, the bears 63 team d line was bigger then recent years, Nicklaus still holds the record for the PGA championship long drive, and jabars play dominated as a young man and still was highly competitive in his last few years. Phil Jackson and Pat Riley have recently commented that the nba has become watered down. They think there are more very good players then in the past but the quantity of great players has not increased while the number of teams has. Less great to go around. I think great in the past could learn to be great today and they would. Tiger would be great in 1960s and 70s, and jack would be great today. Average is better but greatness is always rare, and Dick Butkus will always be the nastiest meanest football player. Of course he would be suspended multiple games each season:).
  11. I'm liking choice 3) a new tweak. Gate problems and posture wouldn't be a in play with a high profile athlete. The rehab team would have researched his pre injury movements and had him training to keep those motions from day 1. An athlete like tiger has a lot of video concerning his "healthier" days regarding his body motions. I was impressed with his poise since he came back. He's shown he was willing to step out and "figure" out his swing in a very public way at very hard venues.
  12. Lessons for certain plus find a certified fitter of club maker when you decide to make a purchase. Right now it would seem it's the Indian creating a problem with contact. Once you find improvement then you can look into new arrows. A club fitter or maker that is certified by an independent organization instead of one that is trained and certified by the retail store is usually a better bet for getting it right. Just HMO
  13. I am not certain this would provide accurate results. The offset and sole demensions are going to affect the lie and loft calculations, and those variables influence the playing length of a club. That's why club rulers and lie/loft machines are used to make more accurate measurements. Back to OP, four degrees is a boat load of lie adjustment. When a player is that extreme it would suggest they might need a length and lie adjustment. Add or subtract an inch and add or subtract 2 degrees, or what ever combination gets you what your need. As prior poster humorously suggested a 4 degree change suggest your either 8 feet tall or 4 feet tall :)
  14. Stress fracture of the tibia when he won 08 Open. I would think that took a lot of "drive"
  15. I'm not sure where the HL designation came into play with the rocketbladez irons. A taylormade rep told me it's a "rebadging" of the originals, and they do look the same if compared side by side. The price seems very good and I personally play the rocketbladez and love them. You probably have already done a search and found the really large thread regarding this club when it was originally released. They are very forgiving on miss hits and I find them fairly easy to draw or fade, but my opinion is coming from the perspective of an average golfer.
  16. You could become a certified club maker and/or fitter. Then you could start building a practice by contacting teaching pros at your local munis and driving ranges. Your services gives the pro more opportunities to help clients, promote himself, and make more money. I know several semi retired people doing this and they are adding $40000.00 plus to their annual income. They started out locally and eventually net worked into semi private clubs. The hard part for them was getting their foot in the door at local places of golf but perseverance and a little salesmen ship eventually paid off.
  17. As I read through these posts I see so many outstanding perceptions of why play is slow and how to improve it. I have realized that the reoccurring thought that there is no consensus on what is a fair pace or how to create it. I have thought about the what's and whys for years and now I am thinking it is what it is and there are no answers that will make everyone satisfied. So my solution for me is I find courses that tend to play faster and get one of the first (if not the first tee time), but this also creates a problem; finding three other players that can create a schedule that allows them to tee off really early and in addition they too must enjoy golfing in under 3.5 hours. Maybe its time to take some ideas from the Europeans. You tee off from the tees that match your handicap and your tee times match your ability to keep pace. How they track all that is beyond me, but my golfing buds from England and Ireland tell me its done and that it works.

    Pace Problem

I'm not sure I agree with this; in the 80's I had the first tee time at Cog Hill 2 & 4 on Sundays, the 90's first tee time at Balmoral Woods, recently I only play weekdays and only at the course I can get the first tee time ( usually George Dunne or Waters Edge ). I have never had the second group off come close to me or within 30 mins of my time. In the 70's my father taught me ready call, or as his friends use to say what are you waiting for junior. My groups never have " honors" , each player is hitting within seconds of the last hit, there is no your away it's your ready then putt, and I've never had a regular player then couldn't consistently shoot 85 or lower . We don't do give me' s or mulligans. The best part is we talk golf, crack jokes, enjoy the great shots, and it's always done in well under 3.5 hours. Why is this. We see golf as an athletic event. You wouldn't practice your jump shot in the middle of a basketball game. You don't move up and down the football field at a leisurely pace. A baseball player doesn't find his stroke by leaving the box after every pitch and analyzing his mechanics. The more an athlete stays in motion the better he performs. Somehow it seems I'm always seeing golfers that treat it as a casual activity that gets them out of the house and yet they think every swing is for the Green Jacket. Play the game like a sport an athletic event and spend the saved time talking with your guys while smoking a good cigar. I know these thought don't apply to the readers of this board. It seems most already keep a great pace and play the sport the right way.
  19. Fair enough. I agree with your belief on chain store reps not being the best choice for a fitting.
  20. I hope you are inadvertently leaving out PCS or GCA people from your thoughts on who is qualified to properly fit clubs. They are more then qualified to understand the dynamics of club fitting, and their organizations have been around longer and have made substantial contributions to the golf industry.
  21. I do not think Tiger is on steroids. However; Why might a golfer use roids? As testosterone levels decrease with age so does our endurance/stamina, fat accumulates quicker/easier so we go from a "flat bell to a round belly", we loose strength and muscle, we are more injury prone. Steroids does have a benefit for older golfers they aren't simply for getting bigger and stronger. None the less; Tiger doesn't seem to be on steroids IMHO.
  22. I agree that the company should not have marketed and sold the product a year before it was ready. My iPhone ITR is (appears) to be the full version. I, and a couple of the local club pros, used it in comparison to trackman and found the results very close. Within +/- 3% of trackman. My iPad is still using the Beta version because that has not been fully updated/tested, as is the case for all the Android products. SO; if you have an IPhone your in business. My iPad numbers "seem" closer to accurate when compared to trackman but not as consistent, accurate, or as quickly processed as the iPhone ITR app. I video with the phone and let icloud move it to the iPad and that's no biggy. The question we all have is how do you market and sell it based on future expectations? It would appear they were more concerned with market shares then promise fulfillment. Having bitched that gripe, I am currently very pleased with how my swingbyte works with my iphone. I'd think when they fix the Android problems those users will also be pleased. Its not a trackman, but a comparable accuracy of +/- 3% is pretty darn good.
  23. With all do respect I disagree with Andrews assessment. When properly utilizing the ITR function the swingbyte holds up very well by comparison to Track Man The ITR ability just became available (post negative review) and it stands to reason if a person was not properly targeted with respect to the swingbyte, club face, and intended target that the individual would have "false" information. I stated such in my above post. The difference between with ITR and without is amazing.
  24. Sorry for bringing up older post. Has everyone using the swingbyte updated the software for ITR usage? I just did so and found a substantial change in most of the categories. The 3d images and video swings obviously look the same, but the numbers for club face (open or closed to target, expected shot shape, shaft lean, etc.) are now in line with what I see on the course and with Track Man. My original opinion of the Swingbyte2 was luke warm, but I now say Im very satisfied and impressed. A final thought; after a few hundred swings, with driver through wedges, I have only had slippage problems after 3 swings.
  25. Why wouldn't they? Modern manufacturing techniques would strongly suggest the shaft is within 1 or 2 cpm no matter what the orientation. In addition; when we get fitted and order a club with our favorite shaft how do we know that it will perform exactly as the shaft at the initial fitting? We aren't certain it will but it most likely will because the modern high end graphite shaft should perform the same in all orientations. Of course, there may be some that still flo and cpm profile a shaft to find a spine before they install, and for those then the performance might be different.
