Pay for modifications or just get new irons?
MPtheKid replied to MPtheKid's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Thanks David and Spyder. I was pretty much thinking that it would just come down to a numbers game and it definitely makes more sense to modify the existing. I just wanted to confirm that it was the right move to invest more money in the current set. Any idea of the typical cost for a place to pull and re-shaft irons? -
Adam Scott.

I like to play in a variety of weather. My favorite is an overcast day, temps ranging from 50-55 with little wind. Perfect weather for pants and a light golf sweater. I can handle any weather though and wind doesn't really bother me. The only thing that gets me is rain. I'll play in it, but I don't like it. It's much easier to play in hard rain when you have a professional caddie to worry about keeping everything dry, which I obviously don't.

Just looking for some opinions/advice. So I have a set of MP-59s that I have been playing for almost 2 years. They are great clubs and I've been quite happy with them. Problem is that I have been working really hard on my swing and have made a lot of progress. As the swing gets better and better, it's becoming clear that different shafts would benefit my game. Another issue is that the fitter I used when I bought the clubs didn't do a very good job. He said that standard lie would be fine, however, it turns out I need the clubs bent 1-1.5 degrees upright. It's also time to re-grip. So my question is if you were in a similar position would you pay for the upgrades/mods on the current set or just get a new fitted set of irons?

How do you begin your backswing?
MPtheKid replied to plugged's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Are we talking about the takeaway? If so, then I try to feel everything staying quiet except my left hand pushing the club back until I'm toe up with the club pointing down the target line. Once I'm in this position, I simply finish a full shoulder turn to the top. -
Scotty finishes 1 under with two doubles on the card. Geez, what could of been....

Throw me the rock and watch what I do with it.

What about this method for sensing fat shots on mats?
MPtheKid replied to nevets88's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Hmm interesting stuff. I don't know why but I don't really have an issue figuring out if I hit it heavy or not off of mats. Even if the club "bounces" after hitting behind the ball and catches it so that the flight looks half-way decent, you still can feel that you hit mat first, right? -
What's your deal man? What point are you trying to prove? That you live and play in South Florida? That you lift, clean, place every time you tee it up and are proud of it? Am I missing something?

Ball Recommendations Please
MPtheKid replied to cnl390's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
For those numbers I think the Titleist DT SoLo would work. It's a solid ball especially for the price. -
Back to back doubles for Adam Scott....disaster.

Which golf balls do you use?

I really like Unguarded . It's about Chris Herren, a great basketball prospect out of Massachusetts, and his struggle with addiction that ultimately derailed his career. After he burned out of the league and hit rock bottom, he eventually got his life together and seems to be a really positive person these days.

Supposed to be above freezing Saturday and Sunday so I should be able to get a bunch of work at the range. Looking at snow late Sunday into Monday. Dear Weather Gods, I can't take much more! Make it stop! Regards, Matt

Haven't watched an episode yet but Melanie Collins...good god. Stupid hot.

Looks like it won't be a very productive day at work....

Just an update...I'm really ramping up as the season approaches. I'm committed to practicing something golf related 6-7 days per week and have just started to get back into my workout routine. I've always been in pretty decent shape but I had gotten lazy with working out over the past year. Up early the past two days to get a workout in before heading to the office. I'm currently researching/designing a more golf-specific workout routine with the help of my swing coach and a TPI certified trainer. Once I get that ironed out, I plan on switching from my normal workout to the new routine and hitting it hard 4-5 days per week. I really want to continue strengthening my core and building a stronger base for my swing without losing any of the flexibility I currently have. As far as the swing goes, the progression is right on schedule. I had been grinding hard trying to get the hands to release naturally with an inside-out path to promote a little draw as my stock shot. I seem to have gotten to a point where this is happening without conscious thought so I am happy with that. For the last 10 days or so, my instructor and I have been working to kill the last piece of my old golf swing, which is getting the club past parallel at the top of the backswing. This has proved really difficult for me but I have been putting the work in and this seems to finally be getting grooved. Had a good session with my swing coach last night and didn't see any swings going past parallel on video. Contact is feeling awesome the past couple of days. Distance and dispersion are constantly improving. I took a look at a video of my swing two months ago side-by-side with a video of my swing last night and my angles/positions throughout the swing are 100 times better. It feels really good to see some results from months of hard work. I need to start researching shafts and do some testing as my club head speed has jumped up quite a bit and I think that I will definitely need to reshaft my woods possibly my irons. I don't mind the expense because it is something that needs to be done due to progress. Right now we are on track to be playing to low single digits by early summer, which is very encouraging. I'm hoping there wont be any unforeseen setbacks. I don't like to get wrapped up in longer-term goals though so right now my mantra is one day at a time. There's a lot of good players out there so I feel like it's important to make sure that I do something everyday that will make me a little bit better. No time for excuses. Just embrace the process and go hard.

This. Everyone wants to play well and hit one beautiful shot after another at the range. Very few have the discipline or desire to dedicate the necessary time to get to that point. No appreciation for the grind. You have to embrace the process and want to put in the work.

Embroidering your name on your bag
MPtheKid replied to mailman's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I'm in the "do what you like" camp but you may get some crap from your buddies/guys at your course. I doubt any of the other 7 year old kids are going to comment on your son's bag. I'm sure your son would really like it so I say go for it. He will get a new bag before high school when I would think people would start to pass judgment on him having his name on his bag. That being said, if he's playing in tournaments at 7 he may be super nice by the time he gets to high school and then no one would say a word about a name on his bag. -
Great decision on getting a lesson. Best move I ever made was beginning to work with a pro on my swing. You will be amazed at the difference it makes. Congrats and good luck!

Pro's throwing putters in air after missed putt..
MPtheKid replied to RetroJFrancisco's topic in Tour Talk
I agree that it's kind of ridiculous for a pro to do it. You would hope that they would be able to control their emotions a bit better. But they are playing for more money than most of us will ever see and are extremely competitive (they have to be to make it to that level) so I understand getting frustrated and letting the putter fly once in a while. Now, if I saw some hack at a local course or my club doing that and damaging the green, I wouldn't be very pleased. It's been said a million times....you aren't good enough to get mad! -
Another vote for Bubba. Something about him just comes off as extremely pompous and entitled to me.

Changed mine to Adam Scott (my favorite golfer). I am trying to quit dip so no more Dufner taking a pinch of Copenhagen as my avatar.
-
Yeah I think Adam will be fine. He was playing really good golf to close 2013 and if he gets hot with the putter he can compete anywhere with anyone.
