Is it cheaper to buy clubs from a local shop and get a discount on a fitting, or is it cheaper to pay full price for a fitting and find an online deal for clubs that fit your specs? I'd do some price checking on the clubs you were thinking of. Make sure the fitting comes first , though. Hate to buy new sticks to discover you picked the wrong shafts. Lie and loft adjustments are pretty cheap, shafts and lengths can get real pricey.

Sometimes the "better" feel you seem to experience just comes from a dramatic change. I circulate between 4 putters throughout a typical season and the change usually breeds some immediate improvement. I always attributed the gain to my tendency to focus a little more while holding a less familiar stick.

You will be much more consistent if you get your putter fit to you, instead of conforming your technique to your putter. Right now you are at a 14 handicap? I wouldn't spring for the "SAM Puttlab" or similar process at this point. In the future, yeah it can help alot, but right now just get the basic loft lie and length adjustments. Also, most new putter purchases will include an indepth fitting.

As stated above, you can change balls from hole to hole, unless a tourney commitee has made a special ruling for play in that tourney. You may not change a ball mid hole, unless yours becomes lost. Correct me if I'm wrong, but you can use a separate "putting only" ball as long as it is the same brand and model, inlcluding year, as the ball you teed off with.

Lol, my thought also. To the original post, here is a link to some very basic info, and here is the wikipedia basic info on a common form of club forging. (Cleveland golf's form forging is basically this) Like others have said above, the real issue is in the metal that is used. Different metals and alloys will all feel different no matter how they were made. The difference in feel from cast to forged is so minute that you won't be able to tell. There has been a few disscusions on this forum on which is "better", and, if you can objectively sift through the opinions, they are worth the time to look up and read.

+1 for the ad333's being a good budget ball, and I remember the Tri Speeds being good, too, but its been awile. My wifey plays the soft feels and she likes them. You should be able to find them for 14-15$$ per dozen on sale.

+1. I had a feeling this was true only in my head, but a few sessions at the range with the aid of impact tape and a few different shaft weights confirmed it for me.

I have a Bettnardi putter, and I love it. I have been playing it almost exclusively this season, even over the Cameron in my sig. The feel on mine, a BHB5, is slightly crisper than my Scotty. If you look on Ebay you will see that a Bettnardi holds its value really well, and The Bee studio has alot of customizations you can send it in for, though not as many options as Titleist's shop, it is real close.

I have used Ebay on a number of occasions, like my putter I'm using now. Like mc said, make sure the seller has good feedback, and alot of it. Pay with paypal, so you can get your money back if you need too. I would also advise to try out the club you are thinking of buying before you bid on one. Otherwise, +1 for Ebay.

I play my 60 degree quite a bit, but like I said above, I would not reccomend one to a high capper, especially one who doesn't have a gap or sand wedge yet. Another suggestion is getting a wedge with a progressive grind on the sole, so you can use it as more of an all around club. My 55 dsg's and alot of newer Cleveland wedges employ that. They call it DSG or Dynamic Sole Grind.

Lol.... married isn't all bad. My wife caddies for me 75 percent of the time. She says it beats walking on the treadmill anyway.

A strong 3 is also nice when you need to hit a fairway off the tee, or if its a tight drive with trouble on the sides. I haved gamed a 909 13 degree since last season and I love it.

I would go with a 52 and 56 combo. Save the 60 degree for when you are a little better, alot of low cappers don't even play one. If you aren't opposed to used clubs, they can be a great way to save money. Check out the used club section at a Golf Galaxy, often times you can find a Vokey slightly used for 45$

The course I play at has round exchanges worked out with the other area courses. So I can trade a round with another courses member at anytime, as long as I book it a week in advance or so. Makes it much easier to be a member.

My kids chewed on frozen hockey pucks. Even in the summer I have a half dozen in the freezer. Go Blackhawks!

10$ should be a ballpark price for getting your putter fit. I wasn't talking about an entire fitting session, just the putter, and I mentioned it because some overlook the importance of doing this and only get their irons done. The pro at Dick's Sporting Goods near my home is very good at what he does, but to most I'd reccomend a reputable pro shop that only deals in golf, since chain stores can be kind of iffy at times.

Gratz on finding the Yes a spot in your sack. My advice: Once you find "your" putter spend the 10$ and get it fit for loft and lie. Make sure your pro knows his/her stuff, and its game on.

The combo set is good advice, imo. Hit all the big names before you put down the $$. Add Bridgestone to the list, and good luck. :)
