  1. well so much for being civil. god, some people...
  2. it's pretty damn hard to shoot a 20
  3. 88. putted well, everything else was serviceable, but pretty happy with it.
  4. I got hit once as I was leaving a par 3. I guess the guys on the tee were a little antsy and hit before I had completely cleared and it caught me on the back of my shoulder. Hurt pretty bad. I don't think I would have minded as much if the guy had expressed any remorse about it but I never heard anything from him. Have been hit into in the fairway a couple times, had the ball roll up a couple feet behind me as I was playing. Seriously, what is the point? I'm not standing in the way for the hell of it. I walk 18 in a little under 3.5 hours. I have never held anyone up unless someone in front is holding me up. But some people don't get it. Never hit anyone but have pulled the occasional approach or sliced the occasional drive near somebody. It's a horrible feeling for me if I see my ball going anywhere near someone so I guess I don't really understand why some people hit into others on purpose.
  5. played the executive course to work on iron and wedge play... only to hit more erratic shots than I do normally. so much for that idea. shot a 68, considering the back 9 is really easy I should be shooting around 60. so frustrating.

    Night golf...

I've done it before. It was kinda cool for the experience but those glow in the dark balls are nothing like regular golf balls.
  7. is it really that hard? if they're there as you're getting to the tee and are free to hit, they can hit. if they aren't free to hit, they wait for you to hit. if you're to the tee first and they come driving mindlessly into your fairway as you're about to hit, they should get the f*** out of the way for a second. I don't know, it just seems like common sense. I guess all the people I've encountered in wrong fairway voyages are cool about it, we usually share a laugh and one of us waits for the other. But I guess there are self-entitled people out there.
  8. chances are if you're not antisocial, you'll be making friends, hanging out/studying/going downtown with them, and accruing more and more events to your schedule. who knows, you may even forget about golf for a while. it happened to me. i was about to take the clubs at the start of the year and didn't, didn't miss them at all as I became immersed in the college environment.
  9. I think you'll be ok. I took a whole year off for my freshman year and came back this summer shooting better than I was before. Had a couple bad rounds at the beginning but i am consistently scoring better now than i was before. I was a 20 cap over a year ago, and am now around 15. Also, I disagree about taking your clubs with you. I don't know if there's anything near BC but if there's not I think you'll have little spare time to drive anywhere to play. Also I'm assuming you won't have a car in Boston, so that just makes the logistics of everything that much more complex and, to me, not really worth the effort. I know I can count on one hand the number of times I felt like getting away from campus to play golf. Of course, your situation is different so if definitely feel like you're going to play a lot, then who am I to stop you. Also if you're in the dorms you'll have a limited space to keep your clubs anyway.
  10. I'm also kicking around the idea of acquiring some new irons and I think a set of cavity irons might do the trick for me as well. I'm assuming the irons that max power mentioned in post 5 are good clubs. Any other suggestions for a quality set of cavity irons?

    Charles Barkley

I don't know what it is about him and a golf course that gets into his head, but it's hard to watch him play. Good for him that he keeps playing though, really want to see him fix his problems because he is a nice guy and a great personality.
  12. YES. Once I quit overthinking my swing and just went with the flow, I somehow started stringing good shots together on a fairly consistent basis.
  13. 91 today. ball striking was sporadic and had some ridiculously bad lies that i usually only see about once every 2 rounds. blah. had a birdie though on a par 3, stuck it about 8 feet from the flag and made the putt.

    Rocco Mediate

any Rocco, whether it be commenting or playing, is fine by me. cool guy.
  15. I had a similar experience. Was shooting high 90s/low 100s 14 months ago. took a year off, started playing about a month ago and have shaved about 10 strokes off. don't know how that happened, but i'm pretty stoked about it. I guess now i just sort of focus on the rhythm of the swing and keep it consistent whereas before I was just sort of swinging away carefree. I also chip and putt a lot before a round rather than hit at the range and it's really helped the short game.
  16. It seems like some of the people who complain about their wives/gfs getting on them about golf are the same ones who treat golf as "alone time" and have absolutely no intention of wanting to share that time with them, for whatever reason.
  17. look, i love playing golf as much as the next guy but sometimes it is A) too much, or B) taken too seriously. and i think one has to look at either A or B if it starts interfering with relationships.

    Pet Peeves

when the group behind you thinks you're the one being slow, gets impatient and starts hitting into you in the fairway or on to the green while you're walking off. When in reality there's 5 foursomes ahead who are pacing themselves for a 6 hour round. I had this happen a couple weeks ago, must have had 3 or 4 drives on the back nine roll up to within 10 yards of me in the fairway as I was waiting for the group ahead to clear the green. I guess they didn't understand that hitting on to me hole after hole wasn't making the guys three holes ahead play any faster. Idiots.
  19. also shot 90. difficult course that I hadn't played in a while so I'm happy with it.
  20. yay, that's my girl!
  21. yeah, major fail nbc. they were only on the 4th hole.
  22. seriously. why would you do that?
  23. i don't know, take it up with the handicap calculator.
  24. yeah what the hell is up with that? he hasn't been playing THAT badly to have to resort to that.
  25. should be fun to watch this weekend. woot paula
