How are you figuring your handicap?
-
Stick a fork in Tiger already, you guys are deluding yourselves.

Umm...the guy's entire world came crashing down in a matter of days, he ruined his marriage, betrayed his wife and children, lost millions in sponsorship dollars, and all this happens under the extreme microscope of the mass media...do you guys really need to look for conspiracy theories as to why he can't focus on the golf course? When it comes to Tiger, you guys kill me! I think you all really need to wake up. It's not him trying to save $$$ by tanking, it's not the drugs he's getting from the pysch ward, it's not that he's finally off roids etc etc... He had the world in the palm of his hand, and it came crashing down around him. Golf is hardly a priority for him at the moment, can you really blame him for that? Do you really need to look this hard for excuses as to why he's having trouble contending against the world's best golfers on the world's hardest courses, surrounded by judgemental eyes?

wait a second, here's your soapbox...oops, I see you already have it. Nevermind.

If there's an outing, I go somewhere else.

From what you're describing, it doesn't sound like an aiming problem is what is causing you to miss left and right. I'm guessing you're just coming through impact with an inconsistent clubface, it's closed when you miss left, open when you miss right. But, to answer your question, in order to aim myself properly I 1) Stand behind the ball and find something about 10 feet in front of the ball that is in line with my target. That can be a broken tee, a certain divot, even a blade of grass that stands out. 2) Then I lie the club on it's sole and square it to the broken tee, or whatever I picked out. 3) Then I get into position and square by body to the clubface that I already know is square to the target. It's a good system and works for me, everyone is differnt though so you have to find something you like.

It's not that it distracted me, or that I'm easily distracted, it's more the complete lack of courtesy that bugged me. Actually, we had a long wait on the 8th tee box. I was +1 at the time when the douche started trying to get in my head by bringing up how well I was scoring, but that was the most comfortable I've felt with my game in a long time, so I didn't care. I just said "yep" then drilled it right down the middle about 275-280 which is a good poke for me. He was done talking after that.

I've been playing seriously for 4 years now, and I've improved leap and bounds once I started taking lessons. I've taken 2 lessons a year, each of the last three years, and even with that little bit of instruction it went a very long way for me.

I had to look that up...but it fits.

Ummmm....was 2002 really that long ago? I do get frustrated with Tress' conservative style, but after last season, sure seems to me he's changed that and pulled a complete 180. I think he let Pryor air it out 30+ times in the Rose Bowl. I read an article yesterday that quoted Tress as saying he's calling no less than 30 pass plays per game. Be careful what you wish for, we are lucky to have a guy like Tress coaching the Bucks man! Anyway, he can and will beat SEC teams. The LSU game, the Buckeyes did not deserve to be there. Boeckmann was one of the worst QBs I've seen come through OSU in a long time, and they had just lost so much talent from the season before. The media put them in that game for some reaosn, but there were better teams out there. Florida was very underrated and hungry. Troy Smith spent months on the Heismann PR tour and gained 10 lbs. That OSU team was more talented than Florida that year, but the problem was OSU bought their own hype and a very talented Florida team wanted that game A LOT more. The SEC as this super conference is overblown...last year's bowl games showed that all too well.

Feeling pretty good today. Last night I was playing against the only guy I don't like in my entire league. When I played this guy the last time, I had just taken a lesson and I was trying to make some changes to my swing...and I was really struggling with it and not scoring good at all. On top of that, this dbag must have been talking during 95% of my backswings, and I had to finally step away from a putt and glare at him to get him to cut it out. Needless to say, he smoked me that night. I'm sure you've all come across a guy like this. Decent player, but not nearly as good as he thinks he is. Tries giving you tips when you're better than him, terrible jokes, you can hear him across the course...he's that guy. So, I've been looking forward to our rematch for a few months now and I made the most of it. Shot the best round of the year with a two over 38 (9 hole weeknight league), won 6 holes, halved 2, and only lost one (chunked an 80 yard pitch shot which I'm pretty good at doing). He didn't play his best so I even took low net even though I was giving him 4 strokes. This match also decided 1st place, for the time being, and we took 30 1/2 points to 14 1/2. So I'm guessing we knocked them down to 4th place. Had to share, because I'm still enjoying this.

Let's call this thread for what it is, a dude trying to brag about dropping his handicap quickly... If you think you can play on the Nationwide after only playing seriously for 2 years, you're nuts, or maybe you just really don't have a clear idea of how good those guys are.

I would guess somewhere in the 500 calorie range, mabye 650ish. Jogging for an hour at a 7 mpm pace burns approx. 1,600 calories and I can tell you, jogging for an hour is a lot more demanding than walking 18 holes. Not to mention, if you're drinking Gatorade, eating snacks while you play, you're pretty much negating any calories you do burn while playing.

Stop...just stop slurping Tiger, bro. 59s can happen. That course has never been hard (for PGA standards)...
-
yeah, it needs some work. Focus on your take away like clubspent said. Taking it away inside like that is causing you to make that over-the-top move club also mentioned. After your takeway, the club is in a bad position, so you compensate with that hitchy little move you make during the transition from your backswing into your downswing.

Sand shot on uphill lie, loose sand...help
muggs replied to chilly's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
man...Ernie is YOUNG in that vid... I'm actually pretty decent out of bunkers for my handicap (a lot of my approach shots find them). I was going to say, keep your weight on your left side, and really try to "thump" the club into the sand behind the ball. Really use the sole to play the shot. When you hit a bunker shot right, you'll hear it. -
The first thing noticed was your hands/arm are out away from your body. When you're set up correctly, if you were to draw a line across your toes your hands should be inside that line. But the club is on plane for the most part and your swing has potential. I'm sure you can lower that handicap a lot over the next couple years if you get some instruction.

Does the PGA Tour need Tiger to win a major?
muggs replied to The Recreational Golfer's topic in Tour Talk
No, what they need is other guys to finally play to their potential, or at the very least have a major that is competitive. The British was boring to watch, even with all the history St. Andrews adds to it. -
Yeah, I lift 2-3x per week, just to maintain a little bit of strength, and I run 4-5x per week. I starting running about 4 years ago, and now it's one of my main hobbies.

Hey-oooooooooo....ba da bump.

But you can slander them? Way to make yourself look completely hypocritical man. Can you at least recongize the hypocracy of that statement? Do it for yourself, not me. btw- when FDR wasn't busy "trying to rob Americans of their freedom" he was also busy becoming on of my nation's greatest Presidents. IKE is tops in my book, but FDR is one of the best.

You don't think a 2.8 index could beat his previous best score in your league by 5 strokes on one occassion? Over 18 holes, a guy who's capable of shooting a 73 can do 5 strokes better. A few putts drop, he hits all his GIR...does not seem that out of question. Sometimes, a guy just plays well and beats you, bro.

Rookie needs help with bigger clubs
muggs replied to GoBlue96's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Yeah, take lessons. The money you spend on them will be worth 100x more to you than the money you'll spend playing rounds of golf. -
I'm sure everyone is different, but for me, I don't focus on the match all that much. Sure, there are times when you have to, like playing smarter, maybe laying up if you have a nice lead, making a putt to put the pressure on your opponent. But normally I just play against the course, and let the rest take care of itself. If you're finding fairways, getting on in regulation, and not using a ton of putts, you're going to win your match.
