I shot an 83 today - one of my better rounds of the year. Missed a couple 3-4 footers for par, but besides that all was well!

Welcome! We all hope that this forum will help you out a lot. Keep on practicing!

Congrats mellojoe! Keep up the great work and the birdies will follow.

I shot 84 today. Not too bad, three unnecessary doubles and a missed eagle putt I should have made - but a good day :)
-
Ouch! Hard to imagine what that feels like. Not that I really want to know mind you!

Not often you see that in Atlantic Canada to say the least - however it seems rare enough you have 2 or 3 golfers that actually play golf at a driving range around here. That is of course unless the range is located on the golf course. Never a bad thing though, its always good to have more people to play rounds with.

Sad that another person so talented leaves us too soon. He succeeded in pretty much every thing that he took on. RIP Bernie, you will be missed.

In a way, yes and no. My degree has taught me very well how to approach problems and come up with solutions. Your learning in whatever field you work in will continue for the duration of your career, one of the aspects that keeps engineering jobs challenging. Don't worry about becoming perfectly prepared for whatever job you plan on getting - Companies that hire new engineers (or most new hires in general) recognize that everyone needs some time to learn their job. Co-op jobs in the industry also are a great help too.

Purchasing Used Golf Balls
Kabal replied to dave39's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Grade B commonly has scuff marks (not major ones) and the logos may be slightly worn. Here is knet's description of Grade B: I believe that this is very representative of what the Grade B is - I have some here in my hands and they compare very well with that statement. If these prices are too high, knetgolf commonly has promotions on certain brands of balls. Currently there is 15% off all ProV1 styles, 30% off Maxfli and 20% off Distance Balls. These types of sales usually allow anyone to find a ball that fits them for the right price. Hope that helps, if you have any other questions, let me know. -
I shot an 87 today - it certainly wasn't the best of days. My pitching just wasn't where it needed to be today. Hopefully it will improve tomorrow. :)

I am a mechanical engineer and I work at a Petroleum refinery. My roles is a Maintenance, Reliability & Project Engineer for a Processing Area of the refinery. I enjoy my job greatly, while it has its stressful moments, it challenges me more and more everyday. Working in the golf industry I don't imagine would be for me, but that's why everyone is different. Good luck in the remainder of your studies both of you!

I started playing when I was about 15 (when I got a job). Once I began university I started playing 1-2 rounds per week - club memberships last 3 years (I'm 22 currently). Best decision I have ever made playing this game.

It is $1.27/Litre here in New Brunswick, Canada - approx. $4.75/US gallon
-
I am listening to the sounds of the Indians vs. Jays on TV.
-
I would have to think that you and I are the only ones from NB on here. But two people isn't bad for small New Brunswick!
-
Hello fellow New Brunswicker! I was going to make a similar thread until I saw this one. Keep working on your game, as we all are :). Whereabouts do you play in NB?
-
I would have to agree with your opinion, as long as your repair job did not move the original position of your ball marker. Once your ball is marked, it seems to me that the location under the ball should be treated just like any location that the ball may end up. I too am looking forward to seeing more opinions on this.

Purchasing Used Golf Balls
Kabal replied to dave39's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I just saw this post and thought I would add my 2 cents about knetgolf.com. I have bought many orders of golf balls from them and find their pricing and product to be perfect for my needs. Free shipping over $100 and fast delivery are just added bonuses. I would recommend them to anyone, just choose the grade of golf ball carefully. I have bought Mint, Grade A and Grade B - all which pass for me. Mint has been perfect, Grade A is near perfect, both do contain logos, but I enjoy them anyways. Just thought I would add my 2 cents. -
I regularly have eagles putts - almost once per round. The problem with me is that I haven't mastered how to sink them. I try to treat them as regular putts but I regularly leave them short. Hopefully with more practice I will fix that issue. I would say I am a once, maybe twice per year eagle player.

I agree with both of you - golf is an escape for me, a time to be with the guys. Although it'd be helpful to get that extra round in once a week or so, that you otherwise might not be "allowed" to have ;)
-
When I used to have this problem, I would focus on keeping my eye on the ball during the swing and maintaining my body position. Shortening my swing up would also help me accomplish this as I have the tendency to rise up a bit when I am swinging a bit too hard. Keep working at it :) I have to agree with an earlier statement - Relaxing is the most important thing.

What is the best golf lesson or tip you ever received?
Kabal replied to PEZGolf's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
The best tip I have ever received was to hold the follow-through of all putting practice strokes (over 1') until you envision the ball reaching the hole. This has helped me greatly reduce leaving putts 3' short or hitting them 3' too long. -
How do you stop "over thinking" it?
Kabal replied to slinkee's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I enjoyed that one. I have often wondered why some of the members at my course always play alone - maybe this is why? Personally, I have found that mimicking Aaron Baddeley's approach works quite well for me. For those who haven't watched him on tour, he closes his eyes and visualizes his shot before stepping up and hitting the ball. I have found this really helps to eliminate any bad or unnecessary thoughts. -
I have always found it indifferent of my performance in putting. I do enjoy having the glove off for sweat dry out, etc. as mentioned before. My major reason for taking my glove off inside 60 yards is for my pitching and lob shots. For some reason I really feel more comfortable with my swings without the glove - although I never have been sure why. Maybe it is one less thing for me to think about when chipping - who knows.

When all is said and done, I believe that Tiger will be considered the greatest. I have a great respect for both of them, as they are both great and have done amazing things for the game of golf. It is hard to compare two different times. I believe that the overall skill of players today is much higher than it was in the past, making major wins / Top 10's a more challenging feat these days. In Tiger's remaining PGA career, it would not surprise me if he comes close to matching Jack's amount of Top 10s in majors. The face that Tiger hasn't had a consistent challenger should not be a detriment to what he has accomplished. Instead, it demonstrates that he has raised the bar higher than ever before and we have yet to have someone be able to come close to this level consistently.
