The best golf App for Android
noefi13b replied to GMLife's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I use Skydroid and it does everything I need (and more) Best of all it was free! The only down side is that I think you can only keep score for one player... I haven't looked that hard though.... -
I was quite surprised when I counted them all up and got to 6! 5 if you don't count my home country... Australia, USA, England, France, Indonesia and Fiji Hoping to add at least couple more in the next 12 months too

Without wanting to reinforce the the stereotype (I'm an aussie) have played many rounds with Kangaroos on the course.... even had a couple "being intimate" next to the tee box on a par 3.... Other than that, few snakes (both dead and alive).... I haven't seen it but I read that there is a course with Bull Sharks in the water hazards up north.....

So I was in need of a new pair of golf shoes and I found a pair of Puma Harpias on sale, 40% off so I grabbed them. Cleaning the soles after the first round and I noticed that the left and right soles are different. Not massively so, but different enough. The salesman was raving on about some feature that was supposed to make you swing better but I honestly tuned out. So the question is are they meant only for right handed golfers? Or did I somehow end up with two different shoes (that look exactly alike).... From what i remeber the sales man saying as the feet have different stresses on them in a golf swing the shoes are designed to encourage grip where needed and slip where needed.... Thoughts?

I would wager you hit the old 6 iron better because the lofts and lengths are prob the equivalent of the Burner 7 iron. Quote: and was hitting better and more consistently with it than my burner 6 iron, not to mention it was forged. Oh and forged or cast, makes no difference on the forgiveness of the club. All comes down to the design.

Tee height setters
noefi13b replied to golferaddict's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Bullitt5339 has the right idea Pro Tee and just remember what letter to go down to! That said I also sometimes use the small red fixed height tees for my irons. -
4 wood guys - which do you bag ?
noefi13b replied to inthehole's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I've got an old Mizuno F60 (16.5 degree).... One of my favourite clubs in the bag, Great off tee or turf !! -

Its not how, its how many....

I must be in the minority but I hope they don't change the rules.... If using a long putter (belly or broomstick) is such an advantage then why isn't everyone on tour using it? I don't really get the arguement of not being able to anchor against the body either.... I use my 4 wood around the green a lot and I wedge the end of the shaft in my belly, would this too become illegal? The irony is I only tried it as I read about it in Tiger's book....

Is this club technically 'illegal'
noefi13b replied to snails07's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I'd wager that what makes it illegal has less to do with the loft and more to do with the grooves. At the start of 2010 (or was it 09) box style grooves were banned on the pro tours. For amatuers the ban doesn't come into effect for quite a few years yet so I wouldn't worry about it... -
Internationals 18.5 USA 15.5 MVP Baddeley Go the internationals!!! esp the Aussies!

I picked inconsistent because for any given handicap it would mean I'd win a few tournaments (and lose a few by a lot!) If I was consistent I'd always lose to someone having the round of their life.... Seriously though, I picked inconsistent as I see your best rounds as your true potential....... and the lower the better!

newtogolf is on the money... done it a couple of time and it works a treat... Another tip would be to NOT put them near a heater or vent.... they will dry too quickly and may get crusty

I'm pretty sure one of the reason I love golf so much is where I live!! Melbourne, Australia I would say conservatively there are about 100 golf course within 1 hours drive of my house.... Ranging in price from $20 - if you have to ask you can't afford it.... Weather is good enough to play year round and if your slightly strange (like me) you can play in shorts pretty much every round (coldest it gets during an average winter day is 12c or so (about 50 f) As for the people you meet on the course I can honestly say I have only wanted to punch two people I have met on the golf course and this is after playing many rounds as a single.... Almost all are at least bearable for 4 hours and most are actually are good company! Oh and the President's Cup is in town in a couple of months too
-
Well the changes have come in and I dropped 1 stroke... 23 to 22... I thought it would have come in more than that.. maybe I just play consistently cr@p :) Funny thing is I from what I can remember I have only shot better than my new handicap twice in about 15 rounds so it sure ain't me winning the tournaments.....

Picked up a dozen during the week based on the rave reviews and have played a couple of rounds with the Q-Stars, Here are my thoughts. Distance - Marginally longer than an E6 for me. Maybe about 5 meters or so Spin - Between an E6 and an E5. Got a couple to stop on a dime and a few released forward a foot or so. Durability - Very good, After 18 holes cleaned up good as new. Even after hitting a gravel path from about 140 meters "Straightness" - Maybe a touch more side spin than an E6 but it would be a close thing Putting - Nothing really noteable.... either way, fine really Looking forward to seeing how it plays as the weather warms up and the greens get firmer.... Will most likely replace the E6 as my winter ball but so far the lack of spin compared to E5/RX means it may not see as much time in the bag as the affore mentioned balls...

Curious on peoples thoughts on changes being made to the Aussie handicapping system, I believe they come into force in September 2011. Background Australia recently (April 2010) adopted a very similar handicapping system to the US. Basically it is the average of your 10 best of your last 20 rounds multiplied by .96 . We also have a simplified course rating system that works out a "true" par for the course... For example a monster par 72 may be rated as a 75 so to reach scrach you only need to shoot 75.... Like wise an easy course with a par of 69 may be rated as a 66 to to be scratch you need to shoot 66. Changes I have just read that they are going to now calculate handicaps based on your best 8 of your last 20 and the average is multiplied by 0.93 There are another couple of minor amendments but that's the crux of it. The rational given is that the current system favours high cappers over low in competitions and that the changes will address this. My question is, will it? What do you think? From my point of view I can see that most peoples handicaps will drop. And that higher handicappers (like myself) will drop more, but is it really fairer?

I'm lucky enough to live somewhere I can play all year round! It can get a bit heavy under foot but its never too cold for golf... I played last weekend in shorts, polo and a vest and finished up pretty sweaty... Not bad for the middle of winter!!

Not sure if they are superstitions but here are my crazy habits... Always mark my ball Heads up and the coin must be from year earlier than my best score (81 or older at the moment!) If I sense I'm having a good round I refuse to add my score up mid round I mark my ball with a smiley face and when ever I get to place the ball (tee box, green) I always have it staring back at me I face my labrador head cover the where I want my drive to go I start my preshot routine by tapping the ground twice Never pick up a ball on the course unless I've lost one! Always carry a ball on me Never say "nice putt" until the ball is in the cup Never say nice shot untill the ball stops moving

Scam and corporate irresponsibility... what to do?
noefi13b replied to immts007's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
If you paid on a Visa or MasterCard just call your bank and get the transaction charged back... The ownus is on the merchant to prove you made the transaction, not the other way around... From my understanding of credit cards (once again Visa or MC) there is no such thing as a "non-refundable" charge.. If you get no joy from your bank complain directly to Visa or MC.... -
After reading this thread I thought I'd try it out at the range too... My typical bad miss is usually a high hook but I thought what the hell it was worth a shot... So I took my PW and hit 5 balls with a full swing but what felt like 50% effort... then grabbed the driver and tried to replicate both the speed and tempo.. Low and behold I hit them dead straight and prob gained about 5-10 meters!!!! I actually left out a little laugh as it seemed too easy.... Looking forward to hit the course this weekend to see if I can transfer it to there.

Declaring a lost ball and then finding it in the hole?
noefi13b replied to jfrain2004's topic in Golf Talk
I stand by my post as we are talking about holing out here not declaring a ball lost or hitting a provisional..... In plain terms the minute the ball goes in the hole that hole IS OVER.... you cannot score any further strokes on that hole regardless of what you do.. The fact you were not aware that the ball went in the hole has nothing to do with it.... -
Depending on what the lofts and shaft lengths of the hybrids you get are you might consider dropping one (3 maybe?) That way you could keep the 4i or add a wedge if you wanted to. As an example here is my bag.... D 10.5 4W 16.5 2H 19 4H 22 5-GW etc ... This gives me fairly even spacing between all my clubs (10 or so meters) with not a lot of over lap.... FYI - My 4W, 2H and 4H are all different brands hence the differences Ultimately its how far you hit each club and how comfortable you are that will determine what to put in you bag... Oh and don't dismiss your current 4H just cause you haven't been fitted for it.... I hit mine the best out most of my clubs and its one of two I haven't been fitted for!

Declaring a lost ball and then finding it in the hole?
noefi13b replied to jfrain2004's topic in Golf Talk
Rest assured that the moment your original ball ended up in the cup the hole was over and no further strokes would count regardless of what you declared.....
