I came back into golf after all of this had happened so it pretty much passed my by. When I started back I was still playing with my circa 97 big Bertha woods and some knock off pings. I went to get fitted and ended up with a set of speedblades which I've liked. Then I upgraded my driver to the R15 a few months later. And then added an XR 3 wood. I like my set currently but there seem to be so many better options especially around irons now that I'm a bit more educated. I think the biggest effect of all of this I've seen personally is with my local golfsmith. Some days it is just dead in there. You could hit the simulators all you want till close. A bigger golfsmith on the other side of town is the same. Like 8 bays that all sit empty a lot.

Same here. I'm expecting the jet black will be in high demand. @iacas what storage are you getting? I'm thinking 128. I've about ⅔ of my 64 filled currently. Lots of kid pix and videos. ?

Completely Different Driver/Iron Setups
skeedawg replied to Foot Wedge's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I went through this drill with my driver setup recently as well. The change was very similar...ball way forward (for me right at end of my left foot), weight more back (45%left, 55%right), right shoulder back a bit...this has resulted in straight, draw for me the more I've practiced it. Also, I used some impact tape to help me get this more customized for myself. Moving the ball so far forward also meant I had to tee it up a bit higher than normal, so the impact tape helped me get that dialed in as well. -
Mygolfspy.com, a site the reviews a lot of equipment, has an interesting 2 part series on the story of TaylorMade. Basically, they needed to come up with a means to disrupt the market, did a great job of this on their way to generating almost $2B in revenues, and then in an effort to keep pace with their success made a number of poor decisions, and mismanaged their lineup horribly. Now adidas is looking for a buyer... http://www.mygolfspy.com/the-rise-and-fall-of-taylormade-part-1/ http://www.mygolfspy.com/the-rise-fall-of-taylormade-part-2-the-empire-crumbles/

Irons: going from “sweeping” to “digging”
skeedawg replied to Kalnoky's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I'm a sweeper with everything down to the 8/9 iron and lower. If i take a divot with much above a 7i, then it's usually because I hit it fat, and boy do I feel it. Sometimes I wonder if knowing the fatshots are bad gets in my head, and keeps me from taking the divot after the ball. Lately there have been two occasions where I struck a ball really well, online or with a nice draw...well I felt the divot (or what i thought was a fatshot) and almost immediately expected something bad was happening. I shook my head both times and just thought, wow that was cool. Telling your brain to do something physical and having it work out is a neat trick. I really think there's some mind/body thing at work there as I've struggled with it as well. My swing is a lot more consistent and I know when it's on/off most times, but sometimes I'm just baffled at how what I wanted in my mind to happen just fails me physically. -
I'd agree with most of what is said here, ambition and talent can take you a long way in life in general...if you are at all serious then run don't walk to the next tournament that you can play. It's not as much how does your game hold up, but yourself and all the stress that comes with playing for something. I think without some tournament experience, it's impossible to know the amount of work it will take to make your current game (mental and physical), ready to play for something more.

Yeah I don't see the SE going away anytime soon because there's a large segment out there who want that form factor. Personally, I've gotten so used to my 6+ that anything smaller just doesn't feel right.

The GPS will be a great addition for the Golf tracking apps as well and will help increase the time to getting a distance from just the watch. Nice!

I love my Apple Watch! Devs struggle at first but they've gotten better over time. Especially Golfshot Pro which I used to track my game before I switched to GGLive. I'm hoping for some really cool changes to the Watch, looks like I won't be dissapointed.

FWIW i've been buying a mixed bag of various 330s from golfballnut.com and had good luck with used/reconditioned balls. Last time I paid .37/ball for a bag of 60. It truly is a mix of the 330 series, I've found everything in them. it's a good way to keep it in the same 'family' or series but not break the bank. Hard to beat 5 doz balls for 22-24 dollars depending on the current deal.

Played a couple rounds last week, some things better, like putting...some still struggling like my full swing consistency... https://www.gamegolf.com/player/skeedawg40/round/1149560 Above at Indian Creek - Creeks course here in DFW. Played with a new co-worker and had a blast. I'm going to hit this one again with a more solid game plan now that I have LSW in hand. I think it's a course where below 80 is very possible. https://www.gamegolf.com/player/skeedawg40/round/1151417 Next got to play Friday at Coyote Ridge, one of my favorites to find a deal on GolfNow. I shot 9 strokes better than when I played this on 11/2015!!! Yay for me!! And I had 3 penalty strokes...it was the 8 pars that saved my score here. Also, I putted better than I have all summer. It's the best putts/hole I've recorded since using GG.

Are you a Better Golfer than a Year Ago?
skeedawg replied to iacas's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Definitely better and believe it will be better in a year. On Friday I shot 88 at a course I struggled to break 100, and it felt great. I struggled with the usual stuff, making consistent contact...but my misses aren't near as penalizing as they used to be. Now that I have a better bead on my distances with each club, I'm making smarter shots with less anxiety about whether my swing will be good enough. I've gotten a nice repeatable swing which has helped build confidence. And add on to this the recent addition of LSW to my library and I'm all but guaranteed to be scoring/playing better! -
Yeah I know it can be played correctly just not by him at the moment. Worked out in my favor. So my 3w is 19* and 5i is 23*. Just got my copy of LSW and I'm going to work on some swing mechanics and driver setup before I commit to anything. After reading through about half of it, I feel good about my wedge situation. Would love to do and Edel fitting. Unfortunately my wants and budget are not aligned.
-
Cool! I broke 90 today. Shot 89 at Indian creek. Can do better. Now to break 80!!
-
LOL! I just played with a friend who absolutely would not give up on his 64 despite all evidence to the contrary!
-
My copy of LSW shipped on Monday!!!but won't be here till next week... Until then I really appreciate what you posted above and what I've been able to glean from the site. Improvement is coming!
-
No worries at all man...as I said before the thought had crossed my mind to remove it but dang it's so cool when it goes long! I'm in Texas so when it gets dry from the heat down here, you can get some way generous roll outs GameGolf is pretty cool, and I've seen some deals for under $200 lately. Not cheap but not bad for some tech that really helps me know what is going on with my game.
-
Yeah what @nomulligans said. I can definitely hit my driver further than the 'Typical' distance in GG right now, but there's that darn outlier 174yd shorty skewing my results. I had to triple check the 291 after that round because I just couldn't believe it had happened. So it stays for now. I'm looking at those FWs in that XR line for sure because, YES! Yes I do hit that 3W consistently! I like the feel of the XR when you strike it true. I have not hit any hybrids so now that I've narrowed it down to FW or H, I'm going to head to Golfsmith and give each a go.
-
Thanks that's kinda where I was leaning as well, and I love my XR 3W. Me and the 3 wiggle have a good history, it's my go to club for all kinds of shots. Heck I hit it so well that I've contemplated dropping my Dr all together...but nothing beats driving a long bomber out past 250, and I couldn't do that with the 3W.
-
I have room for 2 clubs in my bag, now that I've given the 4 iron to the needy! :) Seriously, I cannot consistently do anything with this iron so I'm giving it and myself a break. Here's what it looks like today... Driver TM R15 - 216yds (these are 'Typical' from GameGolf Live) 3W Callway XR - 212yds 5 iron - 174 (irons are Taylor Made Speedblades w/Steel shaft reg flex, 2014) 6 iron - 156 7 iron - 147 8 iron - 139 9 iron - 127 PW - 108 AW - 102 54* - 83yd full shot - Cleveland 588 12 bounce, 2 dot 58* - 69yd full shot, maybe but don't hit a lot of full shots with it - Cleveland 588 12 bounce, 2 dot Putter - old Odyssey blade that I love So one gap is between that 5i and 3w, a hybrid would fit nicely there...but which one? 3h, 4h, 5h? any recommendation for an mfg? and i have no idea what to put as the 14th in my bag, so any suggestions appreciated

I love the challenge of knowing the my best game is in there somewhere and someday, someway, somehow...I will pull it all together in a round for a great score. What will that score be? Who knows. Right now it would be better than my current best round of 82 but (and this is what's great about the game), once I beat that score I will be looking forward to doing better the next time...and on and on it goes.
