No, not exactly...just a general or rough definition of "in the vicinity" will do. Not all of us are 1.5ers.

Yeah, I dunno about any of that. There were almost 150 women playing in this tournament (28*5, right?), no doubt many of them using the restroom during a round, yet only two used a cart to get there.

Smoother tempo (less effort) produces longer shots?
roamin replied to onthehunt526's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I noticed similar ball striking results a few months back while practicing "easier" swings and a smoother tempo. I've been incorporating tempo drills into my practice and have seen (and enjoyed!) a noticeable and consistent difference. But... If you'll excuse the DD HCI and allow me to offer my two cents... I don't think that's the question here. Your swing speed was slower. You also said strikes were closer to the sweet-spot. Seems @David in FL may have nailed it the first time. I'd imagine it's possible you might also be doing a better job with decent angle and low-point, but I'm now bringing up more stuff I don't really know about, or whether it's even relevant, so I'll stop and wait for smarter people to chime in and hopefully learn something myself. Either way, stick with it. Sounds like your on to something with your swing. Best of luck! -

I'm sure there are tendencies, but I think it's more dependent on the path and low-point of the swing. I used to play the ball in the center of my stance with the driver because it was the only was I could get the ball to go straight with my swing. Then I found the thread below... Good luck!

They just aerated and backfilled ours with sand*... I'll quit complaining! http://www.gamegolf.com/player/roamin/round/1594768 Shot 86 today and broke my par record, with nine pars. I was making solid contact with my irons all day, which felt great. Everything felt good, really. I flubbed a few chips and caught a bad, downhill-idiot-footprint-in-the-unraked-sand lie on one hole, but did a good job of getting close to the green in regulation throughout the round. * to give credit to the crew at my local course, they've done an excellent job on the whole process. No doubt the greens will be spectacular this summer.

Not really helpful. Seems OP does know his distances, and was just asking for opinions on gapping at the low end of the scale. I only carry three wedges... PW: ~113 52: ~87 56: ~73 I use full swings with all three clubs, and normally choke-down, add a little cut, and/or shorten my swing a bit (feeling-wise) to take off 5-10 yards as needed. Except on long par 5s, I don't tend to have many approach shots between 60-100, and rely heavily on pitching for everything less than ~60 yards. For now, it's really just a feel thing. Me and my 56, playing lawn darts.

5/21: Played 18 this afternoon, shot an 86. Nine pars, five bogeys, and four doubles. Driver, irons, and putting were great, but a couple flubbed chips, two bad sand shots, and bam...four doubles.- 250 replies

5/20: Played "select-a-shot" from the front tees with my son today, shot 79 (40/39). Had a great day. He's really starting to enjoy golf, which is good to see. Also, I like playing from the fronts with him and getting a read on every putt. Of course, he made a couple of putts outside of 10 feet (for birdie and par) that I was glad I didn't have to putt.- 250 replies

"5 Minutes Daily" Practice Challenge May 2017
roamin replied to iacas's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
5/19: About 15 minutes with the metronome app tonight. Settled in at about 42 bpm and used a simple, "one...two" count for backswing to downswing. Spent some time with both my driver and my pitching wedge. A few minutes of tempo'd practice swings and then a few minutes hitting plastic balls (with tempo) with each club.- 250 replies

My kids used to do this on my mom's golf cart at her campground, and that's exactly what she said when I saw it and asked, "What the hell, ma?!". I can't say I loved it. I was always worried the strap would let go, but it never did. Honestly, in your case I'd be more worried about that open drain next to the green. Yikes! Looks like something Lassie would have to go get Farmer Johnson or call the Sheriff for.

Simple and makes sense... I like that. I get too fussy about wording and was caught up on the "video review" phrase. Thanks for the clarification!
-
It was visible to the naked eye, but wasn't spotted at the time it happened. (Well, maybe it was, I don't think we know that timeline...but...after it was reported, they had to do a "video review" to confirm whether it happened). I think they'd want to be very clear about the definitions of words and phrases like, "enhanced technology", "small inaccuracies", and "video review". I took the wording to mean they would only call a penalty if you didn't need video to know whether it happened (full speed or otherwise, since it didn't specify)...i.e. if we have to "go to the tape" (for any reason) then it's not a penalty. I can see where I'm getting too picky about the wording (I tend to do that ), but with the twitter-storm that erupted among pros after the Lexi call, I don't think I'll be the only one.

Until recently*, a 2004 Big Bertha Titanium was my baby for many, many years (10+). 360cc clubhead, great feel, easy to swing fast and hit far. It always seemed like the "harder" I swung, the more she rewarded me. I tried a couple larger drivers through the years, but always made my way back to Bertha. No half sizes, though, you'd have to settle for a 10o or 11o. * Coincidentally, and oddly enough, I just gave her to my son about a month ago after receiving a TaylorMade AeroBurner for my b-day...and I'm never going back.

I'm late to the party, but this thread was at the top of the forum and caught my eye... How does this particular change not stop Lexi from being penalized at all? I don't believe what she did was "reasonable", but, it was only caught after video review, which they specifically mentioned will no longer trump "a player's best judgement" and will limit "second guessing". Also, "The player gets no penalty for any small inaccuracies, irrespective of any advantage gained." What is "small"? And advantage gained makes no difference, at all? (Again, sorry if this is old news or I'm completely off-base. )

http://www.gamegolf.com/player/roamin/round/1584449 Walked 9 after work and shot 44. They started me on the back, which was a nice change. Birdied the first hole with ease and walked to the 11th tee with a big smile on my face. Nice drive at 11 and on the green in regulation...but I promptly found out this is the wrong hole to miss long on when the pin is in the front. Four putted from the back of the green (off of a hill) for a double. So-so from there. Driver was working well but I couldn't seem to capitalize. I either screwed up the second shot or screwed up a putt once I made it to the green. Missed a 3 footer for par after a spectacular bunker shot on 16, and then three-putted after a perfect 7-iron to the middle of the green on the par 3, 17th. Grrrr.

5/16: Walked 9 after work. Starting to warm up quite a bit down here. The mild winter we had this year definitely spoiled me. Normally, I can't wait for summer, but I'm dreading it this year. I digress... Shot a 44. Started off with an easy birdie -- Driver, 3W to pin-high just off the green, perfect pitch shot, sank the putt. Couldn't help but think, "this might be the day". But it wasn't. Four-putted on the next hole for a double. Driver was working great, though. A few more screw-ups with my irons than I cared for, but swing felt good otherwise.- 250 replies

5/15: It's only Monday, but I needed a golf-fix, so after about 4-5 minutes of warm-up and slow swings, I spent about 30 minutes just hitting balls. Easy swings, picking a target and thinking about hip turn and weight transfer, but really just having fun.- 250 replies

"5 Minutes Daily" Practice Challenge May 2017
roamin replied to iacas's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
5/14: 30 minutes out front enjoying the breeze and practicing with my pitching wedge. Full shots (plastic balls), focusing on easy swings and starting the ball on line. Shouldn't say it out loud, but I'm liking my swing at the moment, and have tried to keep things simple and not work on too much. Keeping a small thought in the back of my head about hip turn/no sway, but other than that, it's been more about consistent aim and setup, smooth tempo, contact, and start-line.- 250 replies
