Saw something intresting during my round the other day.my home club here in new zealand has a pretty relaxed dress code.and I was in my normal sort of outfit for a warm day.plain shorts, and a plain blue Nike t-shirt with no graphics or logos on it.no knee length white socks thou lol.and saw a visitor to our club dressed in golf pants and a polo. But his polo had a big skull and crossbones on it with the skull smoking.just playing devils advocate here, but it would be intresting to see what happened if he turned up at the only course in our area that stipulates a collar.ild argue that a plain t-shirt looks a lot better.(all thou as i said in the original post i always stick a polo on when i play at that club)

He's still young too thou,is it a case of just needing to mature a bit.and get a bit more experience.(how old is he exactly i know his early 20s?) I know he's not the same type of players but i seem to remember sergio garcia having a lot of blow up holes when he was younger, and losing his temper a lot more over it.and he seems to have matured into a much more composed player these days. That said ild take Jordan's game over mine in a heartbeat

I was just reading the thread on hear about jason days appearance to present the trophy at the players(wearing jeans & a t-shirt),and weather he was being disrespectful or not. Something that hadn't even occurred to me,until i read that thread. As to me i had no problem with it at all.but dress code in golf is something that's a bit of a hot topic here in new zealand at the moment. And im interested to hear other peoples views on it. We're lucky here in New Zealand that we're 2nd in the world in golf course's per capita. Which means we have lots of courses to play which is great. But also at the moment the number of people playing golf is down. Which is bad news for a lot of the smaller clubs. So golf nz are trying to get most clubs to relax there dress code,to help entice new players. And move golf away from the upper class stereotype, something that i think is great. A lot of clubs use the word smart casual. Which as i said on the other thread can mean 2 completely different things,to 2 different people. But heres my 2 cents worth on it. Here in new zealand we really have 3 different types of golf clubs, and i do think the dress code should be different at all of the them. As they are different types of clubs. At most clubs i believe that the dress code would be fine as, polo-shirt,sports t-shirt or plain t-shirt, plain shorts, jeans(as long as theres no rips or holes) or golf pants. for 95% of courses i play,i believe that would be fine. For the other 5%,what i would call "the top courses" i think it should be polo shirt, plain shorts, jeans(as long as theres no rips or holes again) or golf/smart pants. But then after your round is finished,i see nothing wrong with putting on a t-shirt. As long as its not got anything offensive on it or have holes in it. For me personally i play in shorts and a sports t-shirt at my home club. And then if we go to play a round at the top club in our town,il stick on a polo shirt and shorts. However as we're now entering winter here in the southern hemisphere. I shall be wearing jeans thur the winter(intrested to hear peoples thoughts on this) And a nice warm high neck sports top with a vest/rainjacket. i do think golf has to relax its dress code a bit, as we live in a different world now then 10,15 or 20 years ago. And a lot of young adults i believe are partly put off by the dress code. Il be interested to hear peoples thoughts on this

smart casual is a phrase i hear a lot, when talking about dress code on the course.Or around it for this matter. that means different things to different people. jason looks fine to me,not smart. but not scruffy. as a newer golfer dress code is something that surprises me at a coulpe of the clubs ive played at,again smart casual is down to how the individual interprets it.

ild be playing the 1st as a 3 shooter too, diver hopefully about 220 and straight followed by a 9 iron,to hopefully leave me a nice full swing with the gap wedge.and 2 putt for a 5,to walk off with a bogy.at least thats how it would go in my head. more likely to miss the fairway, find a bunker with my layup, scramble onto the green in 5.then 2 putt to within 2 feet,to miss the tap in and walk off with a 8

agree with most on here. that as long as you don't take what someone tells you as a 100% truth listening to everybody regardless of handicap doesn't do any harm. if it makes sense to you,or you think it might fit with your swing give it a go during a range session or practice round. if it doesnt then dont, but that doesn't mean it hasn't worked for someone else or the person giving it. a great quote i heard once was "enlightenment often comes out of the mouths of fools" Im not calling high handicappers fools (myself ) we all just want to improve, and to be honest il take all the help i can get

agree with a lot of other people here, who say a stroke is a stroke. some peoples strength is there driving, some people there irons, some short game, and others there putting.seems pretty unfair to devalue one part of the game. to be a good golfer you need to play well in all aspects of the game,or good enough at your strengths, to cover your weaknesses. and for me personally putting is probably not just the strongest part of my game.but also the part that i enjoy the most. anytime i sink anything from over 12 feet(thats a long one for me) i get pretty excited. and then realise ive just saved myself a shot. not quite the same if there only worth a half stroke saved.and what about the pro who drains a 40 footer,i dont think thats, that easy neither

i think the stroke index is a great thing for higher handicaps. with where i am at the moment i give myself 2 shots on the 9 hardest holes, and 1 on the 9 easiest .make a par with that and im happy, birdy and im stoked.bogey or worse and disappointed. can constantly keep evolving it this way too.i try to work it so my "par" is always a few shots lower than my handicap.gives me something to aim at,and try to improve

so i went and brought the fly z 5-7 wood.when i tried it in the shop the first thing i noticed was something that i hadn't even thought to start with.and that was how much heavier it felt than the rbz 3 w. but the extra weight felt good, and i hit a few nice feeling shots with it.so brought it. and then had it out on the course for the first time this weekend,I had it set at 18.5 degrees.my first swing with it was a second shot on a par 5.which much to my surprise, went high and straight and landed in the middle of the fairway. and ild guess i hit some between 185 to 200 yards.had 2 more hits with it off the deck.both of which got airborne, didn't carry quite as far and missed the fairway.but was happy with the flight and my strike.had 1 more swing with it on a long par 4(well for me anyway)at 420 yards.that ive never even come close to hitting the green in 2 on before.hit as good a tee shot as i can hit 220-230 yards and middle of the fairway, one of only 2 all day that had distance and hit the fairwaywith my new found confidence in my 5 wood,i decided to pull out the 5 wood and go for it(probably about 200 yards to the middle of the green).always normally play it like a par 5 and just lay up.i completely miss hit it,and the ball never got more than 4 meters of the ground.much to my amazement thou, the ball still went straight and ended up about 30 yards short of the green,my 3 wood would of either gone less than 50 yards,or about 50 yards right..to sum it up,my first impressions of this club is,it does exactly what i was looking for.I like the extra weight, find it easier to get in the air.and seems more forgiving.dont get me wrong,i know this is a small sample size, and that my swing still needs a lot of work.and the club is not a fix.but i feel as thou this will do less damage to my scorecard.and i hit 3 out of 4 in the air with nice trajectory, with the 3 w ild of been lucky to get 1 out of 4.thanks for everyone's great help and advice

Ball recommendations. 85 swing speed
kiwi g replied to cnl390's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
not sure about my swing speed,as im a bit of a newbie to this great game.but i also hit my drives (well the good ones at least )around the 220 to 230 total distance mark.and have been experimenting with lots of different balls over the last few months.for me personally it ended up coming down to a choice between 2 balls.the srixon soft feel, and callaway chrome supersoft,as they had the best results for me out on the course.while the sixon went a little further and seemed to hold its line better thru the wind(a typical new zealand summers day!)plus was cheeper.the callaway chrome supersoft was by far the best ball for me from the 7i thru to my wedges.when i do occasionally hit the shot i see in my head,it stops for me on the green.where as a lot of the other balls i hit, would hit the middle of the green and then run off the back.for me personally il take the ball i hit into the green, and putt best with over distance.so will be playing that ball for the rest of the southern hemisphere summer and autum.even thou it wasent the first ball recomened to me.so to cut a long answer short, trial and error.plus what i view as the most important part of my game was the best way the best way for me to pick a ball -
oh,and i forgot to say go dodgers i really want to say dodgers vs red sox world series. but my head says nats vs red sox. but red sox will be hard to beat if they get jose bautista or trumbo.

Mets wont even make the playoffs, nats and marlins from a competitive east this year

No but i did hit a friend a few months back. Trying to clear a tree line after hitting a fabulous drive into the middle of the wrong fairway,i then thinned a 6 iron straight into the trees which ricocheted off towards my friend who was standing about 10 meters from them. as he turned his back,it hit him flush on the arse.while he swore profoundly,i couldn't stop myself from giggling like a small child. probably one of my favorite golf memories from 2016

i started going to yoga a few years ago to help with some back problems i was having, but believe that it also helps my golf game a lot since ive started playing. yoga gives you flexibility, functional strength, and great balance. All of which i think are important to me in my golf game,if you dont want to go to any clases, there are plenty of yoga instructors on youtube these days.

interesting that is says "Though McIlroy has not agreed to new endorsements" in the article. If this means hes just playing the clubs that are best for his game, and there is no money involved. Surely this is 100 times better advertising for callaway and titelist than any other player that they pay to play there clubs.

yeah, thinking i'd put the 3 wood away till i improve quite a lot(or use it instead of my driver, give up about 30 yards with it,but find a lot more fairways.but thats another topic).and ild start off with the fly-z set as a 5 wood, and then lowering it into a 4 wood once i'm hitting it consistently.im going to go into the shop this week, and have a few swings with it. this may be really simple for every one else too,so sorry in advance but still learning about this game. but do you know why they say an average golfer can hit a 4w better than a 3w.is it purely just the loft,or is there other factors too?

thanks, yeah my technique does need a lot of work. got a 20 degree hybrid that i hit quite nice.Just trying to find something that will do "less damage" than the 3 wood while i improve it

Add a another major and drop the presidents cup
kiwi g replied to DavidMatthew1978's topic in Golf Talk
I think in time, the presidents cup will grow to being closer in standing to the ryder cup.I dont think it will ever grow to being as big as the ryder cup.but for those of us who are outside of the states and europe,we look forward to it in the same way as you guys do the ryder cup.i also think the growth of the game down here in the southern hemisphere is going to make the presidents cup a lot more competitive.look at this years team, likely to include jason day, adam scott and hideki matsuyama amongst others. gives the "rest of the world" team a good chance.- 27 replies

Hi all,new member here wondering if anyone can help me out with the best type of woods to hit from the deck. Been playing golf about 6 months now,and normally shoot around a 100.hoping to drop 5 shots off my handicap in the next year,as ive definitely got the golf bug Ive got a taylormade rbz 3 wood, that i hit quite nice off the tee. at around 200 yards, but can't hit it to save my life off the deck! does head volume make a difference,i was reading somewhere that a smaller size is easier to hit off the ground than a bigger one. also how much easier is a 19 degree to hit from the turf than a 15 degree. im looking at buying the cobra fly-z adjustable 5-7 wood,i believe you can adjust it from 17 to 20 degrees.and starting out at 19,and then lowering down to 17 as i improve.im also hoping the slightly shorter shaft might help me too.any thoughts or advice would be much appreciated
