Scotty Cameron Phantom 11 Long Grip Change Help
klineka replied to CoolMan's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I don't know for sure if this would work, but I know when people want the head heavier they add lead tape to the bottom of the clubhead, maybe you could add lead tape underneath the grip? You might have trouble getting the grip on over the tape, probably depends on what grip you choose and how much weight you would need to add.- 1 reply

How to Become a Single Digit With a Short Drive?
klineka replied to Themightyoz's topic in Golf Talk
My first thought is either the gap at 200yds or the gap at 90yds. I wonder if something like a mini driver might cover that gap at 200 for you? But then again I don't know if you have enough speed to justify anything lower lofted than a 4w especially off the deck What are the lofts of your PW and GW? -
In flip flops too, extra impressive! Give us some more details, how far was it, what'd the hole look like, what club, etc.

How to Become a Single Digit With a Short Drive?
klineka replied to Themightyoz's topic in Golf Talk
Couple things. First, the strategy doesn't really change based on driving distance alone. The number one goal regardless of how far you hit it is to advance the ball as far as you safely can and prioritize nGIR and GIR. Second, what yardage do you typically play from? 230yds probably won't cut it playing from the tips at my home course (~7,500yds) but would be perfectly fine from 6,000yds (or even more) -
Have another one to add to this list. Charity scramble yesterday, had 45 feet left for eagle severely back to front sloped green, I was the last one to putt in my group, nobody else came close to holing it, I played about 6 feet of break out to the left and had perfect pace and the ball kept trickling down and finally entered the cup 90 degrees left of straight on for an eagle.

Has Golf Instruction Gotten Too Technical?
klineka replied to iacas's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
@iacas you forgot one -
Which golf courses did he build that are considered "amazing" ?

Probably relative to the other courses he has played in the break 50 series. He's done them all from the front tees.

Last (Golf) Thing You Bought?
klineka replied to JYB's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Just picked up a mint condition Spider X Hydroblast putter. 35", small slant neck. Been putting with a blade for a while but haven't been a fan of it inside 10 feet. This Spider X seems much better inside 10 feet so far during my practice session today. -
I entered this for next year as well, hoping for similar luck. I don't really like how they do it though for The Open where you have to select which days you want tickets for when applying and then either buy all of them or none of them if you get selected. So you cant pick every single day unless you want to commit to buying every single day. The days don't matter to me so I picked 2 practice round days hoping that increases my chances.

Question About Callaway XR Pro Driver Weight
klineka replied to yblock's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I highly doubt you'll be able to feel or notice a 2 gram difference. -
I should clarify regarding my scramble comments it's absolutely not the case when scrambling in an outing or event, my comment was moreso when it's just my usual foursome and we decide to scramble instead of playing our own balls for whatever reason. (Typically if we're on a trip or something and we play 36 in a day we usually scramble one of the 18s) We are normally pretty quick to begin with though, if we don't get stuck behind anyone we regularly play in 3:30 when playing our own balls even with 1-2 guys shooting 90-100+
-
I think the scramble groups should go first, in my experience when I scramble we play faster compared to playing our own ball. Typically less putts overall, only one putt to read, fewer (if any) penalty drops/rule situations, etc. I don't think it matters where you put the walkers since walking/riding is not the primary determinant of how fast/slow a group plays. You can have walkers that play much faster than carts and carts that play much faster than walkers.

How to Better Deal With "Tournament BS"?
klineka replied to pinseekingdreams's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Do you mean they hadn't cut the practice green yet this entire year or just not that day? If the speed was really that far off from the real course I probably still would have at least done some start line work like 5 feet and in just so that my very first putt of the day wasn't one that counted. But that's just me. Either way IMO I think that's unacceptable for the course to host a tournament where people are probably paying $75-100+ for the tournament round to not spend the extra bit of time to cut the practice green ahead of the tournament. -
Strategy Question About Difficult Opening Hole
klineka replied to Ty_Webb's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I'm really struggling to understand how the average score on a 460yd hole with a nearly 20% chance of hitting it OB when using driver is as low as a 4.68. Especially because birdies will almost never happen. I don't have specific facts to base this on but I strongly suspect that the average score on that hole for the event will be higher than 4.68. -
Strategy Question About Difficult Opening Hole
klineka replied to Ty_Webb's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Maybe I'm not fully understanding the math here but you think he will average a 4.1 47% of the time that he hits driver? Even though he will still likely have 190-200yds left in, and from 200 out PGA Tour players average 3.19 strokes to hole out from the fairway and 3.42 from the rough. It's not like if he hits driver he will have a flip wedge in or something, it's still going to be like a 4/5iron, maybe even a hybrid. From 460yds on the tee PGA Tour players average 4.17 strokes to hole out and that's with a much lower penalty rate than ~18% so I don't really see how he would average a 4.1 47% of the time and under 4.5 82% of the time hitting driver. -

So basically you can expect almost 1 out of 5 to be unplayable with driver. Yeah that's a 2 iron all day, IMO. -
Strategy Question About Difficult Opening Hole
klineka replied to Ty_Webb's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Do you keep any stats or have you been on a launch monitor that shows your lateral dispersion with driver? My answer would vary if you tell me driver is a strength and your normal dispersion is under 65yds vs you telling me driver is not a strength and your normal dispersion is 85yds. Something else to consider is how wide your dispersion is with 2iron. If you hit 2 iron can you be virtually certain that it will almost never bring either side's hazards into play? Because what you most certainly do not want to do is lay back with 2 iron and then still have some chance of a lost ball. I don't mind the 2 iron play so long as it doesn't bring hazards into play (and that's assuming your driver dispersion is in the 70yd+ wide range like most amateur golfers). Treating it like a par 5 and have 5 be your goal, sneak away with a 4 sometimes but almost never bringing 6 into play is what will probably yield you the lowest score over the long term. I bet for the tournament that the scoring average for this hole will be over 5, even 5.5+ wouldn't shock me. PGA Tour players average 4.17 from 460yds so I think your strategy should be whatever puts you in the best position to make a 5 while minimizing the chances of a 6. -
Last (Golf) Thing You Bought?
klineka replied to JYB's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
54 and 58 degree SM9 wedges, replacing 4 year old Callaways. Have chipped with them twice so far and 1 range session. Carry yardages were right where I expected, nothing crazy there. They did seem to launch MUCH higher than what I'm used to, but it possibly could have been the range balls too since I was at a different range than usual and they weren't the best quality balls. Chipping has taken some getting used to, significantly more spin and stopping power especially on uphill shots. Generating quite a bit more spin out of the rough too. -
Being able to go chip and putt until like 9:30pm after the kid goes to bed

Where Is Your Next Golf Trip Going to Be?

Please do. I love hearing about other people's golf trips especially out of the country ones because I'm less likely do those ones.
