96 on a par 68 course...unfortunately it is also my most recent 18 hole round. luckily I bounced back and shot 43 over 9 holes while on vacation.

Agreed with the the scheduling situation others have stated. And PGA National is a bit boring IMO...but probably not why it doesn’t have the strongest field. Also...Par is irrelevant in tournament golf 🙂

Shot 43 today on the Prairie 9 at Patty Jewett Golf Course in Colorado Springs. Just glad I had some good weather to play in while visiting. Didn’t hit driver all that well, but was money from 100 yards and in with wedges and especially good on recovery shots. The course was maybe a Doak 2, but with the great scenery I will give it a 3.

Shot 45 on the front nine at one my local go to tracks on Friday. Had a Downhill birdie chip on the last hole that I thought I hit perfectly....it rolled very slow all the way off the green on the other side into a water hazard!☹️ I’ll mark that side of the green as “death” next time I play that hole!

2019 Yearly Member Awards - Congrats to All Winners!
HJJ003 replied to iacas's topic in Announcements & Tech Support
I actually enjoyed being last years Rookie of the year, the awards are fun..so congrats to the new crop! Way to go @leftybutnotPM and @Vinsk especially! -
Pebble Beach no, but it is desperate need of a restoration. Torrey pines is extremely overrated IMO. Keep in mind also that just because someone says a course isn't great...it doesn't mean its bad. There are many shades in between.

This. So this.

Lol Interesting stuff! Makes sense because he was certainly a guest...Though he did get to take a picture wearing a members jacket!

So a co-worker of mine got a new job, and Friday was his last day. I was bummed to see him go because he was the only person at work as crazy about Golf as I was (he was about a 10 handicap) and fun to talk to about the game. He is in his late 50s and is well traveled in the game of golf. He has played just about every big name course public or private except Augusta. Anyway he brought me a parting gift...a Pine Valley golf bag!! He played there in 2013 (had some great on course pictures). I have found my new walking bag:)

Geez been way too long since I have posted here. I had the best golf season of my life in 2019, and got down from 2018 worst HI of 23 to a lifetime best 18 HI. After my lesson last March I went from shanking every other shot to maybe hitting 1-2 shanks the rest of the year. I also focused on short game a lot last year and improved my putting tremendously when I focused on speed. Anywho- I have another lesson later this month to find what my next priority piece is in the full swing. I really want to focus this year in being a better driver of the golf ball in general. My best rounds of 2019 tended to happen when I hit driver great. I want to do that more consistently and hopefully reduce my slice tremendously.

Important Things No One Talks About
HJJ003 replied to mighty's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Yup. The technical approach to high level sprinting and jumping would blow some people's minds. Good coaching makes a huge difference. I sprinted/jumped at a fairly high level (D1 Top 50) and its quite amazing how much good coaching positively influences technical focus, practice methods, and proper training periodization. -
Yeah the research is pretty uncertain on the effects of pickle juice and reducing leg cramps. One study found that a decent amount of pickle juice could be linked to reduce duration of cramps, but not reduced frequency. Few studies have been properly conducted, and a few have even been debunked due to better more methodical studies coming along.

Golfing in Singapore - any recommendations?
HJJ003 replied to longdrive23's topic in Destinations and Travel
How far in advance are you looking for recommendations? Sentosa Golf club was the highest rated combination of courses in Singapore in Tom Doak's latest Volume of the confidential guide to golf courses. I heard you have to book a little bit in advance though. Tanah Merah (Garden) was the next highest rank. It's closed Tuesday and Thursday morning. The courses you mentioned weren't rated as highly, but are probably worth checking out if your home course is a pretty average track. -
Going to Myrtle Beach in September
HJJ003 replied to Sandhills Golfer's topic in Destinations and Travel
My recommendations for the area are: Dunes Golf and Beach Club Caledonia Legends Resort (Heathland) Arcadian Shores -
@Aaron from Baltimore my good friend played all the courses at streamsong and thought they were all great. He didn’t care too much for the greens at the black but I just told him he can’t putt worth a dang that’s why;) Pinehurst are would be a great choice for a lot of good golf in one area.

played well yesterday. Didn't hit driver all that well (what's new) but hit irons well and putted pretty good. My sand game was pretty good as well. Shot 46 on the tough back nine of a course I play pretty often. 8.5 differential!
-
Depends on how good your normal course is! My home course is like 11 minutes door to door, but I will travel anywhere in Houston to play a course I haven't played before. 30-45 minutes is the longest drive I make for any courses in my normal rotation. And that's really just traffic related.

Yeah looks like a lot of agreement here. I say 2-3 wins worldwide and no majors but he does contend in at least two.

Forest Dunes. I think the combination of the Forest Dunes course and the Reversible course (The Loop) by Doak is higher quality golf architecture than the combination at Arcadia. If you don’t care as much about strategic golf and just want great views/Scenery the Bluffs course at Arcadia is your best bet. The south course at Arcadia has mixed reviews but is interesting concept. I would prefer the courses at Forest Dunes though.

What Would Your Home Course Rate on the Doak Scale?

Do it. I am reading the fourth volume now. -
What Would Your Home Course Rate on the Doak Scale?

Check out the book. The Summer destinations book covers your course and area and it’s a great book. Your very close with your rating is all I will say... -
Riverdale was actually the first course that Doak was in charge of green shaping for Dye...or so Doak says. Its on my hit list of courses to play when I visit the Denver area (wife has family on the area). yeah his impact on course architecture and architects is monumental.

Im jealous. Judging by your handicap decreases over the last year they are proving beneficial. I am doing 1-2 lessons a year right now. I know I would benefit from more often if I could make it happen...I am sure it would help my game.
