I tried it on the range and really liked it. Personally, I loved the look of the clubhead but was annoyed at the STR-8 fit hosel. It was easy to work and compared in forgiveness to my 909 F2. Distance was about the same but this one had a lower launch angle so I found it harder to hit more up into the air.

Manufacturers MIGHT have found in their testing that 0.5 degree lofts fit a larger number of people. Plus, it allows them to offer less loft options. As an example, they can offer: 8.5, 9.5, 10.5 and possibly 11.5 instead of 8,9,10,11,12. It could be that the profile allows them to build a larger number of clubs that will be easier to sell as more people will fit into a 10.5 then a 10 or 11.

Try both out and see which one you like better. If I were in your position, I'd go for the r9 SuperTri. I like the look of it much more. It still allows you to change the loft of the driver, at the cost of also changing the clubface angle, but has the weights to compensate for it. For example, say I have a 10.5 SuperTri but I want it to set up with an open clubface. I'll decrease the loft to make the clubface open (to 9.5*) and then put the heaviest weight in the back port to increase launch angle. You should be able to save a bunch of money, which allows you to buy some weights and fool around with the trajectory.

I'm not in this situation, but if I were, this would be my set up: Driver 3 Wood 2 Hybrid 4-PW 52 56 60 If you switch the 52-56-60 for a 54-58, that is my set-up. It allows for a 3 iron to limit the gap between the hybrid (210 club) and the 4 iron (185 club). In all honesty, I don't think anyone games 5 wedges. I can't imagine replacing a 19* hybrid for a 64 wedge.

Got mine as a present for my 17th by a couple of friends. They ordered it online from a European store.

I carry 3. Titleist AP2 PW (47*) Vokey 54.11 Vokey 58.08 I'd like the 54.11 to go a bit further. At the moment, my PW is 120 yards, my 54.11 is about 95 and the 58.08 is about 83. If I could get a few more yards out of that club, it'd be much easier for my distance gaps. That's also the reason why I'm contemplating buying a 48* Vokey with my next set of iron or weaken the loft the PW by 1/2 degrees. My PW is more of the fairway club, I use it for low pitch shots up a ridge or full swing / punch shots. My 54 / 58 are both very versatile even though the 58 gets the majority of the use. I use it mainly on greenside shots (I guess I can only blame myself for shortsiding me) and pitch shots, chip shots that I want to spin.

I don't think it'll hurt your game either. But enis is right. When you get to a certain level, distance control because much more important. GI clubs don't give you the same distance control of blades or player's irons, and that's why some players prefer these clubs. I haven't yet gotten to the point where I'm at the highest level and that's why I play a forgiving player's iron.

Quote: And what makes you say that? Many of the shots you can play with a 58/60 are much harder to play than with a 60*. I have a 54 as well. What club do I use if I have a 10 foot bank in front of me in a bunker? I know I can get the 58 over the bank while a 54 will need to climb 2/3 feet higher to get up. Are you a better wedge player when you can play more shots with one club? Sure, but those shots you can gain will be lost in a situation similar to what I just described as you'll have to chip sideways and try to get up and down from there. To the OP, avoiding a 60* until you are a solid wedge player is a better idea is to play a wedge with less loft.

Grips, Grips, Grips (Equipment, Not Your Hands)
andef replied to ramrockgolfer35's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I have Titleist (Golf Pride) Tour Velvets on all my clubs but my Ping 3-iron which has some sort of ribbed grip I don't really like. The TVs work fine, it's a pretty soft grip but allows for comfortable play in the rain. For me, it's the perfect all year grip. Additionally, it lasts a long time. My irons and wedges are about a year and 3 months old but the grips feel about the same as when I first got them. -
If you intend to add a wedge, I would suggest going for a 58 / 60. I'm not sure what your SW is in terms of loft, but a 60 degree (I game a 58 and it's very similar) is very versatile and a great addition as it gives you a lot more options around the greens. You need to practice a lot with it as it is a club that requires good technique and feel. Many struggle with it, but if you can take advantage of the club, it's a great weapon. Otherwise, how big is the gap between your 3 wood and 4H?

Just because people wear white belts it does not mean they're trying to look like tour pros. I often wear clothing that most people look horrible in and get lots of positive remarks about. Just because someone has a great taste of fashion and looks good in stuff that most people can't wear, it doesn't mean that they're trying to look like a tour pro or stuff like that. Most people ask me whether I'm going to head to the course after school because I dress quite formally and am one of the few who doesn't wear "casual" clothes frequently. The white belt adds to the look and does not reflect a poser.

R11 to be released Feb 4th. Pre-release discussion

Quote: If you're playing a 9.5* head and like the trajectory, I would go with the 9* one. You also have the option of adding loft from what I understand. Additionally, due to manufacture's tolerances not being extremely "tight", your 9.5* head could be closer to 9 degrees (it could also be closer to 10*). -

Nike is everwhere - how much is marketing vs. quality
andef replied to AbsoluteZero's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
It might not be a ball that you hate and far from what you're looking for in a golf ball. Calling them crap makes me laugh at you, especially if so many tournaments have been won on tour with them. -

It seems like I'm one of the few who actually likes this design better than the previous one. It might be that I'm used to busy looking irons (just look at the cavity of my AP2s) but these look great.

New set of Irons for a 20-25 Handicap?
andef replied to Slappy9's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
You've suggested some of the best irons on the GI / SGI market so your friend should have plenty of clubs to pick from. Personally, I've hit the i15 once and find them to be extremely forgiving and the head size is also pretty large. Although there is a difference between the G and I series, a fast improving golfer like your friend might now have any trouble playing the i15s. Make sure he gets a change to try them all, getting custom fit as well as trying them out for a bit before making the final decision. Clubs don't always perform the same way as when you hit them on the range / launch monitor for the first time. -
Yardage comparison: 3 hybrid vs. 5 wood ??
andef replied to inthehole's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I was going to suggest the same thing. If you are considering adding a 5 wood, then a 4 wood would be a great club as it will give you a smaller gap between the driver and 3 hybrid. The shaft might be a touch longer than in a 5 wood but you still have enough loft to get it airborne off the deck while getting a bit of extra distance off the tee. What's the problem with your current 3 wood? -
Here's my bag from WRX: This is going to be my set up for 2011. Only foreseeable change is new wedges. In that case, I will most likely keep the same combination and just switch them out for fresh grooves. Would love to hear feedback from u guys!

I understand that he it a pull draw in the video but you can also clearly see his reaction after he hits the shot, suggesting that he hasn't achieved his intention. Whether that's because the "draw" was of a hook or he pulled the shot is something nobody knows. At the KLM Open this year ,which he won, I saw him hit push draws. By that I mean shots that started a bit right of where he was aligned and that would the draw. As a far as I know, that's what a push draw is. He might have simplified the way he plays a draw for the golf channel viewers but suggesting that he cannot play a shot because he didn't pull it off in the video seems odd to me. I'm only saying this because I've seen him the shot a series of times and "know" the guy's ability pretty well watching 5+ hours of Euro Tour golf every tournament week. In addition, I understand that there are some players that are not comfortable with playing a certain shot or stick with their shot shape. However, most players I've seen play, at least on the European Tour, do not have too much trouble playing different shot shapes. At a 5 handicap, I can even pull of these shots pretty consistently. There's no reason why a PGA Tour pro shouldn't be able to do so.

Maybe it's just me, but I get the impression that he's being criticized here. I say Martin play in the first / second round of the KLM open and he hit at least three or four beautiful high "push draws" with his driver. I'm a bit offended when you say "I think the only real way he knows how to hit a draw is a pull-draw". You don't get to # 3 in the world without having all the shots in your repertoire. Quote: Originally Posted by iacas I don't think he would have. A push, maybe, but I don't think he was in enough to hit a push-draw. Consider how far outside his foot line the camera was and how little "under" the club appeared even from that view at P6. I think the only real way he knows how to hit a draw is a pull-draw . You saw his massive pull-slice before it.

Favorite graphite shaft and why.
andef replied to xxsoultonesxx's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I love the feel of my Matrix Ozik XCON - 6 which is in both my driver and three wood. I like the driver shafts a bit better as I feel I have more control of it, being the aftermarket version of the shaft, but the "feel" of the made for Titleist in my three wood is very similar. The dispersion with the driver is slightly tighter and the trajectory is perfect. Good shots launch very high. I'm not sure of the XCON - 6 compares to other shafts in terms of stiffness but I have both shafts in S and have no problems with them being boardy or too stiff. -
Do you trust your friend in terms of golf? If so, I'd go get fir over there. Memphis is pretty close to where you live, or much closer than the Titleist fitting centers in CA or Mass. However, if you want to experience the tour type fitting, I'd drive to Massachusetts and get fit over there. California is a long way from where you live.

Haven't been able to play on the course for a while but had an awesome shot on the range the other day. I was playing a little challenge with one of the best juniors at my clubs and we were firing shots a the yellow flag. It's a 115 yard shot so I took out my PW (it was 40 degrees outside with range balls). Hit the shot perfectly and it was dead on line with the pin. Came down at the perfect distance and disappeared. We heard the sound of the ball hit the flag stick. One guy who was picking up balls about 25 yards away from the stick ran up to the green to check what happened. When he came back to the hitting station, he told us about the pitch mark. Kinda hard to describe, anyone seen Couples' holed third shot on 17 at Sawgrass? That's how he described it to me.

If the course is in playable conditions, you'll find me out there on a weekend. I've played in the low to mid 30s before, you just need to make sure you're well covered. However, the usual temperature I play during the year is 45 - 60 degrees. If the spring / summer gets pretty warm, we can get to the mid 70s. It has happened for a 10 day period in the last 2 years
