Although I am not a huge Tiger fan I still say he will most likely break the record. Almost every great has had a dip in performance and came back as strong as ever at some point. His physical condition allows him to contend for majors well into his late 40's so he still has about 44+ more chances to get 4 or more victories in the big ones. That's not a bet I would be willing to make either way. His legacy will most likely be that of a man who mentally and physically broke himself and his golf game because of some rather poor decisions. It is no coincidence that his current slide started the week after he admitted his infidelity. The game is 90% mental for most, at the tour level it's much more than that. He shredded his mental and emotional state. He'll get it back and eventually be alright, but not after wasting a couple years to get it back. The writer met his objective... people talking about his writing. One thing the golfing world will not say is that Tiger Woods was a failure at golf. His legacy will remain as one of the greatest players to have ever played.

I was a hold out on hybrids because I too had no problem with a 1 or 2 iron. I picked on up as a tee gift during an invitational about three years ago and have never looked back. I still carry a 3 iron but my 16 degree hybrid is the most most versatile club I have ever owned. I hit it about 255 off the tee and straight as a die, I love it out of a tough lie form virtually any distance. I think the problem most good players have with the club is the appearance. The rounded face is not a great look for something you generally put an iron swing on. I got over it. It's just a better mouse trap and works in many amazing ways. I wouldn't give up on them just yet, you're only cheating yourself they are a handsome weapon even for great ball strikers.

Putting is 100% between the ears. I really don;t care how you putt physically. There have been great putters in history and rarely do they all do the same thing physically. What they all have in common is a steadfast belief that they can make anything and everything. Repetitive practice is the only thing that will get your confidence back.

I hate to sound cliche' but the power of positive thinking is so under appreciated. If you really think you will always suck, you are destined to achieve just that. Golf truly is 90% mental regardless of your skill level. I proved this point with my wife over and over again. She is a still a beginner and when she plays with her ladies she shoots 10-15 shots higher than when she plays with me. I constantly remind her what an easy shot she has and it's good lie, she can do it, she just needs a positive frame of mind in which to start.

Played in a two best ball yesterday and with all the rain we had it was cheater golf, roll em every where. Any way I hit a couple beauts. One was a 285 driver off the deck to 12 feet. Missed the eagle but it would have been my third of the day. Needless to say i hit a couple good shots that day.

The only review that matters when it comes to golf equipment is your own review. We are all so different that one guys love is another guys disdain. I am not interested in what anyone else thinks of my equipment. I will read reviews of other products such as TV or other electronics even a golf bag but other than that... I'll pass on 99% of opinions.

We'll have to wait and see. Footjoy's last great move was producing shoes in China instead of Massachusetts. The Icon is a poor quality substitute in comparison to the old FJ Classics. Selling off our greatest companies does not sound good for America in the long term. Yes it's just one but how many more can we stand to lose? When does Titleist relocate to Korea? It will most likely happen eventually.

Why are Pete Dye courses so popular
ND Fan replied to ThominOH's topic in Golf Courses and Architecture
As an Indiana boy I have played several of Dye's designs. His genius is lost on the average player. He incorporates things in his courses that would baffle most golfers and hence they just don't get it. I love nearly every course he has designed. Some of the more notable elements would be greens that are damned hard to read and he also has a knack for getting the player to play where he wants you to play. TPC at Sawgrass has an element of go low or shoot a million. I personally like that, if you hit where you're supposed to you should have some risk reward for that. That's what his courses do. He says hit it here and you'll be rewarded, hit there and God help you. It sure beats the typical bland nature of many designers. -
The USGA is a pile of crap. When they install rules like this they should have a couple hundred brand new wedges on hand to swap with amateurs who have spent their hard earned money on their equipment. I am kinda glad my USGA days are done. It's a damned stupid ruling any way. it should be either conforming or not the day they make that ruling. No exceptions no delays. The grooves haven't done a bit of damage to the game or the tour, but yet here we are.

Mots good players I know around can't travel well. I know a couple guys that are good for 68 -72 on their home track any given day. When we go on a road trip they always have some reason they shot 83. I am fortunate, I shoot about the same numbers regardless of where I play or if the course is difficult or easy. Golf is at least 90% mental and my comfort zone is well intact, too damned intact if you asked me!

How conscious are you of you ball position?
ND Fan replied to upah's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I think the better you get he more likely it is that there is not a second thought given to ball position, you just feel where it is is the right place. The only time I adjust ball position is when I need to hit some specialty shot. -
I am pretty sure the Bahamas and Hawaii have golf courses. There coastal waters are not a dead sea by any means. I think your guessing about the reef and guessing in some guilty over zealous Al Gore fashion. This resort will likely improve that local economy 10 fold. I would be shocked if the reef dies. The ocean is bigger and more resilient than people think.

I think John J. should take up Tennis... had he never played golf we wouldn't be discussing the irrelevant circumstance. Does it matter? If John is capable of such shit he probably shot 103 and what the difference between 103 and 106?

The Dan Plan - 10,000 Hours to Become a Pro Golfer (Dan McLaughlin)
ND Fan replied to Jonnydanger81's topic in Golf Talk
I'll go out on a limb and say the guy has zero chance. If he proves me wrong good on him but golf is much more than working on thing for a year another thing for a year and another thing for a year. Learning to play is just as important has learning to hit the shots. It's a nice novelty and he'll get plenty of press for it but i would guess a guy that hasn't worked on his short game or putting in 5 years will not be a good enough putter or have the short game necessary to even compete at a high amateur level. If you can't make it to match play in the US am you're not ready for a career on tour. Any dolt with a decent game could make a cut now then but making a living out there would be tough. He won't make it. -
They'll replace it No doubt all clubs come with some warranty. I would however suggest finding an Adams 9032 LD. This head was made for Sadlowski the face is reinforced and designed to take some punishment. I just sold one with a HOF X shaft last week for $130 Sorry for the bad timing.

Titleist Pro V1 vs. Srixon Z-Star
ND Fan replied to eagles14's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I find little performance difference between the two although the srixon is far more durable than last years Pro V1 X. I have no idea if that has changed any for the PRo V. -
Who's is to say that long putters are not a technological advancement. I don't anchor the club to anything but my hands. No part of that club touches my body. It works for me and I'll continue to use it. one argument was "ban them because they're not how golf is meant to be played." Was golf meant to be played with woods made of any other material? It's a stretch, I know but I am just sayin' I do agree that a club should not have three points of contact, if that rule is changed I would be on board with that. The fact that several players on tour have used them for the past many years I doubt any further official debate will be had on the subject that will effect any of us. By the way, this site likes to re format any spaces I used for separation is that an issue with firefox?

Confusing Ball Flight Information - followup
ND Fan replied to newtogolf's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
You guys make all this too complicated. Hit the ball where you want to go. If you can't do that you'd better learn. None of us can adequately adjust the face angle accurately enough during a full swing to get it right every time. The best indicator of hitting a golf ball properly is... does it go where you want it to? -
Every body chokes, everybody. Most people who get in position often enough to choke a few times actually build up a resistance to it. Rory is building his resistance. He'll be fine. If you say that you have never choked you're either lying or have never been in the position to do so.

This may be my last post on the subject but I am really compelled to interject. If there is one thing in golf that i feel I am an expert on, its this. The background on my personal experience is as follows. A little over 20 years ago I started getting the yips in college. I was on a full ride scholarship and and my ball striking then was literally tour quality. What I believe got the yips started was I was hitting the ball so well that I was shooting some excessively low numbers regardless of where I played. I went a three month stretch playing every single day without shooting above 67. I threw in several 64's, which I believe to be my personal brick wall. I have never broken that and doubt I ever will. I remember the specific round at what was then called River's Edge Golf Club in Ft. Myers, FL. One day I was hitting my irons dead on, the first five greens in reg and putting from 8 feet or less. I missed all but a tap in on those five greens. The short putts seemed to get longer after so many misses. I guess I started pressing myself to get the ball in the hole. Then it happened... My first yip! It was a three footer that was dead up hill and straight. After that something was immediately re wired in my brain and my hands have continued to fight each other ever since. If you have never had the yips its impossible to explain. I got to a point where I knew I wasn't going to make any putt unless the hole jumped in front of the ball. I could miss anything from 14 inches and out. Strange thing was I was perfectly comfortable from about 15 feet or more and put a good stroke on those. For about a month I made 10 times as many putts from 15-25 feet as I did from 2-3 feet. I literally only made maybe one in ten from that short distance. I switched to cross handed and thought I had found the answer. After a couple months of forgetting the yips and now my trouble were all behind me, or so I thought. The yips crept into the cross handed stroke and I started looking for the answer all over again. I tried every thing and just about everything worked better than yipping putts. I tried the following.... Left handed, closed my eyes, looked at the hole while putting, ultra short shafted putter. one handed, cross handed left handed, side saddle, split grip, thumbs together grip. I saw Orville Moody one afternoon putting with a long putter. I went out that night and made one. I used an old driver shaft with an extension. It was a whippy bastard looking thing but it worked. I used that ugly thing for about 2 months then I found a proper shaft and fitted to the that same Ping Anser head bent it upright and my game was almost back. My confidence had been shaken quite severally as this process took almost two years. The long putter for me was a life saver in a manner of speaking. Golf at that time was the most important thing in my life. I had worked so hard at it and it was all unraveling because of what I would attune to as a mental illness. The long putter didn't offer anything magical and many players can't stand to even try it. For many it is uncomfortable and embarrassing. For me it is a necessity. I still have a couple short putters in the basement and to this day I will yip just about anything inside of 15 feet. Why I have no idea. But my hands will not cooperate, they literally fight each other during the stroke. The difference lies in muscle memory. Now I am completing a stroke that is completely different and my hands don't need to work together. the left hand hinges while the right hand drives the putter. It works and for the last 10 year or so I have become a very good putter again. My ball striking isn't what it used to be and neither is this old over weight body, but getting married and two kids later golf is way down the list of important things in my life. I still play to between +2 and 0 handicap and have for the past 20 years and I really enjoy the game. The long putter is within the rules and I will use it until it is not. For those of you who say it's cheating. Try one out, most don't care for it. Because I am a good putter I have people constantly ask me about it for years. It has gotten to the point where I don't sell my old putters because I know somebody this week will likely ask me to try a long putter. I have two in my car just for this purpose. I carefully explain just how I think it should be done and give them one to try. Nine out of ten times they give it back in a couple days and say that's just not for me. If it were such an advantage people would push and shove their way to get one. It's not, it's just a different way of putting. For the 13 handicap who said he has taken the game serious for 2 years and thinks tour pros wouldn't use one because of ego. You couldn't be more wrong. Those guys have no ego when it comes to improving their game. Most of them would sell their soul to get back two shots per round. Sure most of them are a bunch of pre madonnas. I have known a few, they would shave their heads and and wear black lipstick if it helped them win. nothing is out of bounds in regard to performance, absolutely nothing. I have played this game for 30 years. I have been everything from a one time great putter to the worlds worst putter back now to being a pretty good putter. I have used virtually every known method of putting I am aware of in my quest to find something better. For me, the long putter is it. It is not an unfair or any kind of universal advantage. There is better than a 90% chance that I could give you a long putter today and would putt much worse. How is that any kind of advantage? I would suggest y'all get over it. Until you are made president of the USGA or Royal and Ancient your opinion on the subject is mute. It's just a game men. What ever you can do to enjoy it more that's within the rules do it. Life is too short and many holes are getting too long as we all get older. How many of you use persimmon woods just for the tradition of the game? I held out on even metal woods until the early 90's. I didn't need the distance then and I loved my stock pile of old MacGregor drivers. Don't pretend you're somehow a bastion of tradition when you step up with your $400 Titanium Driver.

Rattle snake is very good. I have had it several times deep fried. Alligator is also very good. I know it's cliche but it really does taste look and feel similar to chicken.

I just use my initials, no question who's ball it is.

Don't get too technical Buy yourself a set of cavity back clubs generally referred to as game improvement clubs. how far you hit your clubs is a pretty good indicator of shaft flex you need. 9 iron for example if you hit your nine iron 120 yards you could use a reg flex, 130 stiff and 150 x stiff less than 120 get a senior shaft. I know it sounds simple but golf is an easy game until people muck it up with all their great ideas of how to do things. Pings are good clubs no need to buy unless you just want to get something new to look at. Go to rockbottomgolf.com and see what they have. I have dealt with these guys for year and they are straight up the best deal i have seen in the golf biz. I have bought from them on several occasions. This is actually a pretty good deal and not going to break the bank http://www.rockbottomgolf.com/tour-edge-golf-bazooka-ql-combo-hybrid-irons-set-steel.html Good luck
