  1. SC California Coronado, @ 35" and 1* loft. Backup is a Bettinardi BB-1 MS @ 36" and 1.5* loft.
  2. No, it's not a legal handicap per USGA. It's just a number based upon 90 or so rounds downloaded from my skycaddie to their website. I'm sure it's a vanity handicap (the one under round I shot last Sunday was a fluke, trust me...). But friends I play with don't believe me when I tell them it's bogus, I'm really a 10-15, and we should play $20 a hole straight up. They just laugh and put their hands over their wallets. I'll remove it so there's no confusion.
  3. And then there are some of us who don't give a rat's backside about 'tournament legal'. ;)
  4. I use one of those huge Nike umbrellas during the summer to keep the sun off me when I'm walking. I stick the thing in the holder on my Sun Mountain 3-wheeler, hang my glove and a towel on it, and smile when people stare. I could care less what people think, it's actually cooler under there! :)
  5. Update: My i3s have been relegated to 'backup' status. Found a very nice set of S57s on Ebay and just fired my low round of the year last Sunday.
  6. When I first heard of this, I was not impressed. Figured it was some marketing ploy to pack more bodies onto a golf course. But since then, I've played with several people who are trying to hit hybrids or woods into the same greens that I'm hitting a mid-iron into, and I started to appreciate where this may be going. This person needed to move up at least one tee box, maybe two, in order to be hitting a mid or short iron into the green. I am fairly certain he would have enjoyed his round more. But then...who is going to play with me from the tees I should be playing?
  7. I have heard from many that the Eye2s and Eye2+ are the best irons Ping has ever made. I cannot personally attest to this, but see quite a few sets of these things around here, and no one appears to be having any difficulty with them. I may have to get some... :)
  8. I should have included the fact that I normally wear a size 13EEE shoe. The Trues fit perfectly, the Stealths are tighter. UPDATE: I've worn the Stealths for two rounds, the last walking a slightly hilly course, and they appear to be breaking in OK. Still a little snug across the top of my foot, but I loosened the shoestrings a little more and that appears to be working for now. They ARE stretching, so they should end up fine.
  9. Been using a push cart now for almost 5 years (I'm 56) and it helps considerably. Sun Mountain (what I use) and Clicgear are fairly common around here.
  10. Just got a pair of Stealths, and they do NOT fit the same as the Tours. Narrower across the middle of the foot. These things are no where near as comfortable wearing them around the house. I'll try playing in them tomorrow, but if they don't start stretching soon, they may rot in the closet. Very disappointed. Guys with wide feet should stick with the Tours, IMO.
  11. I take my 'old school' bag out 2-3 times a year. Wilson Staff Tour blades and Tour Block persimmon woods. I lose about 20-30 yds with the persimmons, and the blades only function well with a near perfect swing, but it's like going back 30 years to being a kid again. That and I like the challenge.
  12. What classification fits my Ping S57s? Players cavity?
  13. Here we go...
  14. We wear shorts practically year round here. You can occasionally spot someone with pants on. Probably riding in a cart too. You wear pants here right now, and you may get laughed at by some, but hey, to each his own.
  15. My skycaddie keeps track of fairways, greens, and putts, but I barely glance at the numbers after the round. I don't bother to keep them. As I seldom practice, I don't see the need.
  16. Wasn't going to use real numbers, as this causes all kinds of grief on that 'other' board, but hey, not all us old guys are short hitters! As an intro, I'm 56, some would consider me tall @ 6'3", and most would consider me fat @ 250 with a 40" waist. And long arms @ almost 36" sleeve length on my dress shirts. Having said that, I recently (few months ago) hit over 100 balls in an hour on a launch monitor to determine my average SS when I'm tired (say walking, on the back nine, and it's over 100). Average of the first 20 was over 115. A few were over 120. Average of all was just under 110. I still put it out there about 280 avg., and can sometimes reach a few of our local short par 4s that are under 330. Sunday was over 100, and I was about 20' short of the front on 17, a 326 yd par 4, but still a whole lot further than the two 30 somethings and the one 60 something playing with me. The 'older' gentleman with us was watching my drive disappear over the waste area, and said something like "anything that stays in the air that long should require a flight plan" or some such. We were all laughing too hard for me to remember it exactly. 5 iron still goes over 200. Not MUCH over 200, but hey, I qualify for senior discounts, and am a AARP member (thanks to my wife) Regarding the SS loss: I was generalizing in my first post, because honestly, I don't remember for sure. When the very first steel headed driver came out (Taylor Made?) A local pro built a driver for me to enter some of the local long drive contests in SoCal. Took me to some place up in L.A. that was able to measure SS, and I want to say I was somewhere in the 125-127 average range with a 45" (long shaft in those days) XX shaft. Like I said, I don't remember exactly, but we got tired of replacing the heads: I kept caving them in. Used to destroy persimmons too. Expensive hobby back then. So, I have lost a significant amount of SS, but I've always been a little longer than average. To be honest, I'm a better player now, with the reduced SS/distance than I was back then. Yea, I could hit it into the next zip code, problem was, we didn't know WHICH zip code. My Grandpa said I was the only golfer he'd ever seen that could hit a golf ball 150 yds. in two different directions with one shot. He would be grinning like a kid at Christmas with today's technology!
  17. I have a Walther PPKS that fits nicely on my belt in a lay-down position (barrel parallel to my belt). T-shirt covers it fine, and on my frame (6'3" 250lbs) it is barely noticeable. We have laws allowing open carry which means literally, you can just wear it out in the open. I conceal it (I have the permit) so it doesn't draw attention and scare the Snow Birds who are oftentimes from big cities with very strict gun laws. After a recent law change, you only need a concealed carry permit to carry where alcohol is served. Don't want to startle the sheeple... ;)
  18. When I first moved here (Tucson) I was invited to play a couple of tournaments at the GC surrounding my home. Both times, some sandbagging idiot with a (supposedly) double-digit handicap won with near par rounds. Petty, arrogant, sandbaggers cheating for bragging rights and a few hundred bucks. Haven't bothered to play in a tournament since.
  19. ROFLMAO!!!! Actually, (wiping tears from my eyes) I've done that. Occasionally it works, but usually it results in a huge pull hook that I'm too tired to go after.
  20. I have the SG5, before that the SG3. I've always liked the Skycaddie, upgraded to get the color and the green contour information. No complaints with either unit.
  21. I've lost about 10 mph off my max club head speed with a driver @ 56 years old. But I've been told that I'm an outlier, not the norm. Doesn't sound like much, but I also tire easier and then the SS falls even more. I could ride, but I don't want to do that.
  22. I have a pair of Tours and simply love them. I've played 5 rounds in them and have never slipped (but then I can play in tennis shoes also). Light, comfortable, and with the wider toe box, I can actually use my toes to help with balance. Like playing golf in your favorite pair of slippers. I'll be getting another pair soon! (different color)
  23. Yes, I was responding to Mattt's description of people in general, and the course he described specifically. Wasn't directing any of my response at Mattt. Sorry if it came off that way.
  24. No, some/many people may be ignorant, but just as many (if not more) are arrogant, narcissistic idiots who think the rules apply to other people, because they're better than everyone else. The scenario you describe above would have me walking to my car without even paying. After reading (the post) I came away with the impression of 'you are the great unwashed, but we want your money. Do what we tell you, and follow the rest of the herd, you sheeple.' REALLY glad I live down here, with my miserable 4.25 hour rounds and no marshals... ;)
  25. Welcome back to the fold. :)
