Best Wiffle/Foam Practice Balls
DannyG replied to Rodoalo's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I have tried many brands of waffle balls and most split at the seam after little use. Then I found the ones made by the real Wiffle Ball company and they are the best. I have never had one split, even after years of use. They also perform better. They cost a little more but are worth it. -

Tiger's Two-Stroke Penalty at 2013 BMW Championship?
DannyG replied to paddlefoot's topic in Golf Talk
One of the problems with this situation is Tiger's view of the ball, from above looking down, is totally different from a camera at ground level with a telephoto lens. Two different perspectives of the same object could easily give different results. It is very possible that from Tiger's view the ball did not seem to move but only by close scrutiny at a different angle could the move be seen. Bottom line, in no way did it improve his lie. This was a stupid call. After all, if the ball couldn't be identified as his, he could have picked it up to identify and placed it back as close as possible to where it was. I have no doubts that the replaced ball would have "moved" more than what was shown in the video. But as long as it did not improve his lie, no penalty. -
I'm a little confused - Is Five Simple Keys no longer associated with Golf Evolution? There is no mention of it on its website. Why Medicus? I have read a number of complaints from people doing business with them. Is Golfshopcentral part of Medicus? You can also order from the PureStrike.com site, is this your site? When ordering things off the internet I like to know who I'm doing business with but this (Five Keys) seems to be all over the place. Can you help clear this up? Thanks.

Enlow Grips? Anyone tried them?
DannyG replied to eprobation's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
$12 per grip is WAY out of my price range. -
That would be a help, thanks!

I'm exploring MB for a first time visit in February. Have you found a place that offers a consistently good package? I have been shopping and it's a bit overwhelming and when you crunch the numbers, some of the so called packages are no bargain at all.

I can't find anything on this. Do you have a link?

Drive a Bridgestone for the best ride in golf.

I was a real Golfshot fan but lately the gps readings have been all over the place. I walk on a tee and get a totally different reading from the lasered marker in the ground. If I walk away a few yards and then come back I'll get a different reading. I just don't trust it anymore.

I use to let the game really get to me. I use to get so frustrated after a bad round that I stopped playing for a couple of years. I then came to the realization that unless your playing in a tournament, no matter what your score, it really doesn't matter. Bad score, good score, nobody really cares and as soon as your done with the round it's ancient history. It is really a game that is best enjoyed in the moment no matter how it goes.

Sorry, I forgot to include the size in my post. They are Ecco size 44 which is designated as 10-10.5. (I wear a 10-1/2). This can be seen if you look closely on the box label.

Ecco Casual Cool II GTX Size: Ecco size 44, US size is 10-10.5 http://www.eccousa.com/shoes/golf/mens/casual/new-casual-cool-ii-gtx/2736/detail.aspx Worn for only 9-holes, no range time. These shoes came direct from Ecco. They felt great when I put them on so I went out to break them in by playing 9 holes. Unfortunately, the just didn't conform to my foot shape and I developed bad blisters on my heels. I'm really bummed to have to give these up but if they don't fit right there is not much I can do. The shoes are in like-new condition. The photos were taken after the 9-holes (played this morning.) Price is $150 including shipping (Continental US)

Anyone use a GPS app on iphone ?
DannyG replied to johninspain's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I have been using Golfshot since the beginning of last year for both GPS and it's scoring capability. I have an iPhone 4 and have never used more than 40% of the battery in a round. -
P.S. My drill, the "hips forward, half swing" thing that's posted via YouTube fairly often... note that the knees aren't straight there. They're not super bent, but they're not yet straight either. Can you post a link to this?

“ The Stack and Tilt Swing” book by Bennett and Plummer has a great section describing the downswing. But there is a particular paragraph that I’m trying to get a better understanding of — “When the club parallels the ground, hips are still moving laterally but the shoulder turn has started to slow down relative to the club, which allows the club to “turn the corner” into impact. This slowing down of the shoulders transfers speed to arms and then the club. This is a major element that experienced players use to accelerate the club into impact, like cracking a whip.” I always envisioned my swing with my hands staying centered in front of my chest on the take away and the downswing. I know that doesn’t actually happen as the club reaches the top of the backswing, but the thought has always helped me on the downswing in that it helps me keep my shoulders square to the target line at impact. But what the above paragraph describes seems difficult to achieve. Not only to you have to have the hips sliding forward, you also have to start the shoulder turn and then slow it down and let the hands catch up? This must all happen in a micro-second. Can someone explain this a little better and maybe describe what this feels like. Thanks.

Stack & Tilt hurts my left hip.
DannyG replied to JerseyThursday's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Since I got Analyzr I have looked at many pro swings. I haven't found one that does not have the hips forward of their starting point when they reach impact. The photo shows Adam Scott on the left and Luke Donald on the right, both at point of impact. The first red line is drawn from the hip at the beginning of the swing and the second line is at impact. In almost all cases the hip "slide" is the first move from the top of the backswing and in some cases starts just before before the completion of the backswing. -
"You've Got to Stop Playing those Top-Flites..."
DannyG replied to colin007's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
The newest issue of Golf Digest ranks the Gammer 2 as "gold" in $20 and under balls. This is what they say, "This ball's technology defies its price point. If the ball had a little more short-game spin performance, it would nearly be tour quality. As it is, it's still smarter and more versatile through the bag than any ball in it's category." -
Iphone 4 Apps -, What do you Use?
DannyG replied to Rich SDCA's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
iSwing on the practice range and Golfshot on the course. -
I have had it for some time now and use it often at the range. With an iPhone 4 the quality is excellent with a high enough frame rate to really step through your swing. I also export the videos to my desktop and import them into Analyzr which is another fantastic (Mac only) swing analysis app.

Put a lot of thought into the bag area. Loading the bags, access to all the bag pockets, access to clubs and better rain protection are all areas that need improvement. Maybe when the cart is not moving the bags automatically tilt outward for better access to the clubs. Other things have already been mentioned – trash handling, built in ball/club washer, drainage, suspension, smoother acceleration. How about a web type seat that will stay dryer when it rains? (Like many of today's office chairs.) I much prefer electric carts over gas. You may want to talk to a few course superintendents. They may have a totally different slant on what would make a great cart. Is this an industrial design course project?

I thought I would start a general discussion thread for those of us who have the Student version of Analyzr. This is a place to talk about how your using it, cameras, good Youtube sample videos, etc. I'll start it off by saying I was a beta tester so I have had some time to play with it. I live in New England so there is still snow on the ground and I haven't been able to get videos on a range but I have videoed my swing in the driveway and have been comparing them to downloaded Youtube videos of various pros. Between all the great information on The Sand Trap and this application I have already seen improvements in my swing – at least from a practice standpoint. I'm really looking forward to getting out and actually hitting some balls to see the results. I don't have a fancy camera and have been using my iPhone 4 until I find something better. But even with the iPhone I get acceptable videos. I have an inexpensive tripod to hold it and use the iSwing app to record. The reason I use this app is because it has an audio countdown for starting the recording and automatically records short clips. This allows me to do it all myself without utilizing a camera man. I'm planning on taking my iPhone, Macbook Pro and Analyzr to the range and get instant feedback during practice sessions. While the ability to video and analyze are not new, being able to do it as an individual so cost effectively, and with great quality, is a breakthrough. I'm already considering Analyzr one of the best swing aids I've ever used. The low cost of this great app is a bonus.

This needs a bump, especially if your interested in the introductory offer. I have been a beta tester for Analyzr and this is fantastic software (I use the home version.) I have downloaded a number of pro swings off youtube and then recorded my own swing with my iPhone. I then load it into Analyzr and do a side by side comparison. In just a short period of time I have seen great improvement in my swing as I am able to see step by step how it compares to the pros. What is really cool is that Analyzr allows me to flip the video of a right hand swing so it matches the same direction as my left hand swing. This program is without a doubt the best swing aid you could buy and it's only $36 if you buy today.

"the quintessential Hilton Head golf experience" would have to be Harbour Town, but it's pricey. drglew has it right with the Robert Trent Jones course at Palmetto dunes. I personally don't care for the Ocean course at Sea Pines. It has a few nice holes but was never my favorite. Look into Golden Bear and Country Club of Hilton Head. Just off island is Crescent Point and Eagle's Point.

I have had this problem a couple of times and I have found that exercise is better than resting it. I belong to a gym so I have access to a wide range of dumbbells which I use for reverse curls. (Hold the dumbbell palm facing down and do a regular curl.) Start very light with just a couple of pounds. This will hurt for the first few reps but as you work it, everything will loosen up and start to feel better. You may not get beyond a few pounds for many days but over time you will slowly be able to increase the weight. This is no quick fix and may take months before you feel 100%. Icing and ibuprofen (Alieve) helps as well. I now do reverse curls as a regular part of my workout and haven't had the problem in years. Of course improving my swing may have had a little to do with that as well :-)
