KJ Choi used to do either powerlifting or bodybuilding, I don't recall which it was. As long as you go through a full range of motion on your lifts and continue working on your game while you're lifting, you shouldnt see any adverse affects. I used to do some powerlifting in my 20's (20 years ago) and still lift several days a week now. When I was younger playing basketball in H.S. and college people said that lifting would affect my shot and flexibility for basketball (old school); a lot of today's pro athletes take up golf and they spend a lot of time lifting weights.

If he lied and knew it wasnt his, I'd have to take my club and one of his and tell him "we're even".

My biggest frustration is having a good round going then somehow getting my iron swing into a super steep down swing that just punches the ball and feels like a 4 inch deep divot. Right now I am having to consciously think about my balance as at times I'm getting too much weight on my toes and leaning foward on my downswing causing the steep plane.

Payne Stewart did this on a regular basis. Seeing the photos from this event remind me of when I was younger and followed Payne. -
Golf Glove or No Glove???
IlliniDrillSgt replied to ericstamper's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Haven't worn one for years, I like to be able to feel the club. The only time I wear one is if it starts raining and I cannot keep my hands and grips dry. -
Curious about this situation/incident opinions needed.

Won a set of TM 09 Burners - What now ?
IlliniDrillSgt replied to Andre54's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I have that exact same set of irons. The standard off the rack length and lie was all I needed for my swing, no adjustments required but you can have that checked easily enough. I really like the clubs. Enjoy them and congrats! -
Could someone please provide a link to this "dress code" that mentions long pants are to be worn on golf courses. I am yet to play anywhere that mentions what kind of pants are to be worn on the course. If the long pants are to uphold some kind of golf tradition then why aren't knickers the requirement as they were worn prior to long pants I believe (and knickers actually stop just below the knee). So maybe shorts with socks pulled up over the knee would suffice.

Someone must have told Weezy how ugly his legs are, now shorts are evil.

Does the push fade and pull hook result from the same basic swing problem with a driver? Are both generally caused from the same swing path with the only difference being an open vs closed club face? I used to slice every drive badly, the kind that started a little left then took a 90* turn. Now I hit fareways some of the time but I have also been alternating between some pull hooks and some push fades.

I'll be there on Friday and Sunday rooting for Steve Stricker.

At what HDCP level, did you enjoy golf the most?
IlliniDrillSgt replied to acegolfer's topic in Golf Talk
I enjoy it much more now that I can get into the mid 80's. This is the first year I've broken 90 and been hitting between 85 and 92. I actually enjoy it the most when I just go out and casually play without keeping score; I am more relaxed and strike the ball better when I'm not counting strokes. -
I've been hitting the Callaway Diablo ball. For the "cheaper ball" category Golf Digest gave it a gold rating.

Sounds to me like maybe you need a part time job to earn a little cash or do some stuff around the house for an allowance. Where in Iowa do you live? I live in the Quad Cities and all of the public courses within 20 miles the rate for an adult walker is like $20 - $23 and I know they have junior rates in the mid teens.

I have the same Cleveland Launcher and almost have to do something purposefully wrong to hit a bad shot with it. Rough or fareway, wasy club to hit.

300 yards - fact or fiction: Post your experience
IlliniDrillSgt replied to Fat Slice's topic in Golf Talk
Yep, I've had a few. They were all about 225 down the middle of the fairway then a nice hard right hand turn for another 75 yards into the adjacent fairway...... -
Kevin - Nothing is as bad as it seems when it is happening. Perhaps you just need to take a little break, relax from the game and come back fresh. It is probably something as simple as your swing tempo being off because you are pressing and trying too hard. One thing is for sure, you won't succeed if you quit.

I spent some time working with a pro last year. I had irons with R flex shafts and he had me switch to S flex because of swing speed. It has made a huge difference in consistency of trajectory for me. Rather than replace the shafts, I went with a new set of irons.

What does your screen name / username come from?

I'm a University of Illinois fan and used to be an Army Drill Sergeant, hence IlliniDrillSgt -
Congratulations, that's great. I hope to be there some day myself.

I purchased a season pass in Rock Island for the first time this year. That gives me both Saukie (easy par 66) and Highland Springs (par 72). I play mostly at Highland. Other good courses are Palmer Hills, Glynns Creek, Emeis, Indian Bluff and Byron Hills in Port Byron.

Congrats to you also! Something in the air alright. I think this is the first night I've played the wind wasn't blowing 35 mph......

Shot an 87 tonight. I've had 9's in the 40's but never a full 18 below 90. Course rating 71.7, Slope 125, Par 72. Time to celebrate!
