  1. Spent 35 minutes practicing 10 to 55 yard pitch shots. 10 minutes in sand trap. 10 minutes putting. I also ordered a new (large) grip and 2" extension for my putter.
  2. RIP TAFKAP.
  3. Ha ha! Yeah, but those two were not pleasant. I'm a bogey golfer. I was +13 for the other 16 holes. But +8 for those two holes. Ouch!
  4. A decent round ruined by two terrible holes on the back nine.
  5. 30 minutes at the range working on alignment and setup with mid irons. 5 minutes putting with a Putting Stick.
  6. 15 minutes at the practice range. Working on touch with my 52 and 56 wedges. Hit several groups of eight balls towards a target from various lies and distances between 10 and 40 yds.
  7. Sorry to hear it. I have a history of back problems, so I know where you're coming from. I imagine you've heard about all sorts of exercises over the years. Below are a couple of rather odd things that I've found helps me out: Burpees. You know, the exercise where you go down to your hands, kick your feet out behind you, then hop your feet back under you, and stand up. I do ten of these most every morning, and it loosens up my back considerably. Of course, in your present state you won't be doing any sort of exercise for several weeks. When I pull my back really bad I do the following: I alternate hot and cold on my back ASAP, while lying down, generally on the floor. While doing this I take a prescription pain killer and a couple of muscle relaxants. And then (this is the good part. lol) I drink three or four whiskeys until I'm out cold. Ha ha! I know this sounds weird, and perhaps irresponsible. But it actually does work. For me anyway. I nearly always wake up feeling a LOT better. Although sometimes with a hangover. Hope you're feeling better soon.
  8. Rainy and wet out this morning. Inside putting for 5 minutes, and 5 minutes stretching and back exercises. Why is it so much easier to putt indoors than on a real green? Inside on a carpet I can make 20 four footers in a row, no problem. But can hardly ever do that on the outdoor practice green—even when I cherry pick a slight uphill hole with a straight-on putt. Go figure.
  9. Worked on short pitches for 15 minutes at the practice green. Still getting the pachinko bounces even though the aeration plugs were taken out two weeks ago.
  10. 5 minutes practice putting, and 5 minutes of stretching and back exercises. I'll probly hit the practice range later this afternoon too.
  11. 20 minutes at practice green. Working on short pitches of various distances with 52 and 56 wedges. Also putted them out.
  12. Played seven holes of the the back nine at +2. Which is pretty good for me. I even birdied the longest hole on the course. But the other two holes--OUCH! I was +8 for the other two holes (#10 and #18). http://www.gamegolf.com/player/Avalanche/round/826601
  13. putter—Rife 2-bar: “Frankenputter”. For obvious reasons (See above, LINK) 52 gap wedge: “Volkey2”. Before I bought my first Vokey (Volkey1) I thought they were called VoLkeys. lol 25 hybrid: “partner”—Like my former partner, I think he’s going to be straight with me beforehand. But turns out to be crooked quite often. Driver: “Sweetie”. When I treat her right (hit the sweet spot with a square stroke) she rewards me.
  14. 35 minutes at the practice green. Practiced flop shots, and shots from above the hole. Then spent 20 minutes doing my little 9-ball game. I throw out 9 balls off the green in various lies and distances, and try to get each one next to one of the nine holes on the practice green. Then I putt each one out. (I can only do this when I have the whole green to myself--which was the case this morning.) I did this three times from different spots around the green.
  15. At the practice range for 40 minutes this morning. Hit long irons and rescue 25 for 20 minutes. Wedges for 20 minutes.
  16. Bwahahaha! Now THAT is funny.
  17. Played a quick 9 after lunch. Bogey golf—9 over. I had my best drive ever on hole #1 (best for that hole anyway). The fairway goes up over a hill. The top of the hill is at about 200 yards. Any drive over about 220 yards in the fairway will get plenty of extra roll down the hill. I got it over the hill right in the center of the fairway, and it rolled to the bottom for a 263 yard drive. (A good drive for me on a level fairway goes maybe 225 to 240 yards.) http://www.gamegolf.com/player/Avalanche/round/824289
  18. Okay, it sounds like you've decided to build some sort of box to elevate your putting surface and give yourself enough height for a cup. But why don't you just cut a hole in the floor for the cup? It really wouldn't be that big of a deal to cut down into the concrete (I presume there's concrete underneath that wood). Having your putting surface the same level as your floor would make it more like usable space, rather than space dedicated solely to putting. If you ever sold the house it would be easy to repair. Just wondering...
  19. I'm quoting the OP because his post pretty much describes where I am right now. I played some when I was in my 20s and early 30s, but gave up the game for quite a few years. I began golfing again last year again. I generally play only 9 holes at a time, and have carded some decent 9 hole scores. But I don't think I've played a full 18 where I've broken 90 since taking the game up again. I'm hoping to change that.
  20. Thanks for the feedback! Yeah, there's plenty of room for improvement in *all* parts of my game. Towards the end of last summer I got to the point where I was hitting decent tee shots and okay with approach shots. Then I threw out my back in August and didn't really get back into golf for the rest of the season. Towards the end of summer my short game was keeping me from scoring. So this year I've decided to concentrate on short game first, then work on my other various shortcomings. I've been spending a ton of time around the greens working on short pitch shots and chips. In a couple weeks (when the aeration holes heal over) I'll start working more on putting. Then I'll shift to working on my long irons and tee shots in a few weeks. That's the plan anyway—but it's not written in stone. Again, thanks!
  21. 30 minutes practicing pitch shots to various holes from the rough above the green with my 56 wedge.
  22. Saw an interview with Web Simpson on the Golf Channel a year or so ago. He was showing Faherty his practice putting room. IIRC, He had it carpeted with the same kind of trunk carpet they use in Toyota Camarys. He said it was the material that felt the most like PGA putting surfaces. (Just thought I'd throw that out there. )
  23. Or you could collapse it, stick it down in your bag with the collapsed umbrella covering your clubs, and lay your bag down so it doesn't blow over. =========================================== On a different note, I play in Illinois where it *does* rain a lot. Went out for a few holes before church on this past Sunday. It had been sprinkling off and on all morning and there weren't any golfers out on the course right then. The assistant pro looked at the weather radar and said I had about 15 minutes or so before the next rain clouds blew in. He said if I wanted to squeeze in a couple holes he'd come out with a cart and get me when it started to rain. Sure enough, when it started to rain just 10 minutes later, he came hauling out in a cart to fetch me. Now THAT'S what I call service!
  24. 10 minutes of stretching. 15 minutes of pitch shots at targets. 52 and 56 wedges, 20 to 40 yards.
  25. Anyone else notice a slight resemblance between Danny Willett and Theon Greyjoy? (Game of Thrones). LOL Danny Willett (somebody I'd like to be) Theon Greyjoy (Game of Thones -- somebody I really, really would *not* want to be)
