Anyone heard anything about the Maxfli Black Max? I found a great deal on those bad boys, and it says it has the urethane cover, same as the Pro V1x's...

Black Max is a good ball. Opinions vary, but I find them to be comparable to the expensive premium balls.

But, make sure they are Black Max, and not Black Max Distance or some other variant. The other versions of that ball are nothing like the original. Where can you get them, and for how much?

I would say go with Top Flight D2s. You can chooses Feel, Control, or Distance? i think. They are $16 for 15 balls, so a good price. I have compared them to Pro Vs, and will say that they are not as good, but for the money better.

I really like the Wilson Staff Fifty. If have bought at Wal-Mart for $16.00 a dozen, most other "sports" stores are $18.99 I think. I really like the way these balls feel. I have told alot of people I am around about these, I think they are an EXCELLENT ball for the price

I'll add another recommendation for the Top Flite D2 Feel. I switched from the Callaway Big Bertha and the D2 Feel is longer and softer than that ball.

All I need now is to stop flying the ball over the green.

Of course the pro v's are tough to beat.  So when I am on a course that I know, or I know won't gobble up my tendency to pull my tee shots, I splurge and use them.  But being from Michigan, I play a lot of 'up north' golf, which means, tight fairways, many trees, and (because it's usually a golf trip with the guys) a few extra barley pops.  No cheepie I've played feels better than a Noodle.

Welcome to The Sand Trap Jack.

Have you ever tried the Precept Laddie for a cheap ball?  I have tried the Noodle, but still like the Precept Laddie.

I recommend the Top Flite Gamer. It is a great ball for the price. It goes on sale pretty regularly at the price of 2 dozen for $35 or $30 (depending on the sale).

+1 for the Northern Michigan golf..  playing those holes caved out of forest can be challenging.   Great place for a golf weekend with the guys.

The balls of choice for me are from MG Golf.  They are re-badged balls from a mainstream manufacturer (used to be hogan balls, then I think Callaway).   They are balls with the spin rate of premiums, and the price of cheapies -- $20 per dozen.    No marketing, minimal packaging, just the best new balls $20 will get you.

I think the Snake Eyes balls from Golfsmith are great.  I think they are actually Srixon balls (or so I was told). But at 3 dozen for $30.00, they are a good deal.  They are not as hard as most "cheap" balls and they play well with the wedges, etc.

The Nike PD series have been one of my favorite less expensive golf balls. Not too hard or mushy and they perform better than many other ones I've tried in that price range

The  best golfballs on the market are all the free ones left behind from bad shots. Wash them off and stack them away all top notch i will never buy another ball again,KEEP EM IN THE BUSHES AND SHALLOW LAKES

    • Day 6 (7 May 24) - More work in the backyard focused on tempo in addition to setup.  Worked with 6 and 7 irons hitting hard foam balls - used the old MacGregor irons to mix it up a little.
    • No! lol. But they have to be in the right sequence to play mid-handicap golf or little better. Mostly. And even in that there is range/margin for error in the motions and positions that most normal humans can handle. It helps if you have a decent idea of how a golf club moves around the body like you would any other equipment sports (baseball and hockey might be the closest) After all, fairways are 40 yards wide. Don't overthink it. Be diligent in getting basics right. I will concede that it is harder than it sounds but it certainly is not exact angle/exact position/exact degree of bend/exact speed/exact facial expression, etc, every.... single.... time or the result is horrible death.
    • Looking to play in the Severna Park Golf league and it got rained out the first three weeks. I know the course is being renovated so it is not in great shape but the location is easy for me and I would love to meet some other golfers in my area. Anyone here in Maryland Annapolis area?
    • I like to look at the positives.  Overall you are fairly consistent down the center with most shots 20 yards or less off center.  On most fairways that should be in play.  Sure, you had some very short duds, but also if you look there is a good cluster in the 110-125 yard range.  Sure, we would all like to be longer, but knowing your typical shot is more important than trying to hit the 7-Iron 175 Yards.  Just take more club for longer shots and do not worry about it.  Your distances may increase as you improve over time so do not get caught up on that now.
    • Day 552, May 7, 2024 Played nine holes with @NatalieB with irons only from her tees. Didn't really finish out any holes, just hit the irons and approaches and some chips.
