playing without a glove

Does anybody here play without a glove? I played on tuesday without a glove and found that I actually preferred playing gloveless. Granted it wasn't hot, so I wasn't sweating, and I could see in the summer that being a problem.

The grips that I play with are Karma black velvet (very similar to GP's Tour velvet) I plan to switch to a Dual compound grip next week, so I iwll try that glove less as well.

Thoughts?

In my bag:

some golf clubs

a few golf balls

a bag of tee's some already broken the rest soon to be

a snickers wrapper (if you have seen me play, you would know you are not going anywhere for a while)

and an empty bottle of water

it can be getting that hot in conneticut?? Come to texas and feel the REAL summer heat. You start to sweat from just walking out the door to go out side.

I have played without a glove my entire life. Only time I put a glove on is if it is raining.

No glove for me.

I have sweaty hands, but still prefer no glove. Gloves just make my sweaty stinky hands worse.

I would like to get out of New England and play some courses. Its not 100% the heat thats responsible I'm just one sweaty son of a gun. Also, probobly doesn't help that all of my clubs need to be regripped.

Well, I like the glove for that extra bit of tack but I just started playing all my shots 100 yards and in without a glove and I've gotten some better results. I play Lamnkin crossline cords. I don't have sweaty hands either. I just like how the glove takes my attention away from my left hand.

Kidding - unless it's winter or I'm digging a hole - gloveless.

Often no glove during the winter months, definitely use a glove when it gets warmer. Too many blisters when the hands start to sweat.

I don't usually practice with a glove, and on the course I usually only use one for the long game... pretty much anything 6 iron or shorter and I'll take it off.

Around the greens I don't like to wear one for sure becuase I get a better feel.

My Dad of course, even wears one when he's putting

The last time I played I forgot my glove at home and didn't feel like going back to the club house to buy one, I figured if I played bad on the front I would get on at the turn. I was -1 after nine and ended up shooting +2 overall, my best round ever and it was without a glove... I always thought I need a glove but I guess not!!

I've found I play better without a glove. Never have had a problem not using one. Same with golf shoes......I think folks think they have to have these things and thats not true for everyone. Look how Freddy has played without golf shoes.....his best golf in years.

That's why I don't play wilth a glove! Big fan of Freddy, don't know when he quite wearing a glove but I haven't worn one in more than 10 years. Expecially with today's grips, I feel a glove is even less important, plus it's just one more thing I don't have to buy and try and keep track of....

      I think you can get away with even a 5I or a hybrid or something. I don't think you need to hit 7I off the tee.

      Yeah this is good to remember. Handicap is ranking where a high handicap player is most likely to shoot a worse score than a scratch golfer. Though you'd think a super narrow shorter hole would be relatively high handicap (as in close to #1 or #2 because a scratch golfer can hit 4i-SW and have a good look at birdie frequently whereas a high handicap is gonna be in jail or OB a ton? I guess it being short disqualifies it? I have long noticed that as a long hitting mid-handicapper I get an advantage playing in tournaments against players where I get 3-4 strokes because those are usually the par 5s that I can reach or nearly reach in 2.

      Crunching the numbers, if you play the hole.. 100..1000 times, the best average of the hole you are going to get is with the Driver/Hybrid or playing it as a Par 5 hitting 3 wedges.  Assumptions of your game: Driver 240 yards (100 yards dispersion) Hybrid 200 (80) 6 iron 160 (60) 9 iron 120 (40) P wedge 100 (30)  Other assumptions from the hole: - When you hit it towards the threes 15% of your shots are going to bounce back to the fairway but 40 yards shorter, and 15% are going to remain in the threes but punchable out. The other 70% is going to be lost or OB so you need to Re-Tee (penalty + distance).   You are going to hit less balls OB if you hit 7 iron off the tee but you are still gong to hit balls OB! and you are going to play 100% of your 2nd shots from 150 yards where you can still can hit a couple more OB! The average score for each club (assuming you go for the green in the second shot) is: Driver: 5.4   Hybrid: 5.5 6 Iron: 5.9 9 Iron: 6.0 Given that 5.4 is the best average you can get, is not necessary to go for the green in two. So you can hit 3 shots to reach it, maybe P (100), P(100) and wedge (90) and be around bogey or double but with this strategy you are going to be almost 100% in play all the time to avoid a roller-coaster of scores in that hole. Scratch players can hit 150 off the tee with a 9 iron and keep the ball in play almost 100% of the time so they can play the hole as a par 4 and be around par in average.

      This. Whatever your longest iron is where you won't be in the trees a high percentage of the time. If that's shorter than 7i (as in, you'll have to hit a longer iron for your approach bringing trees back into play with high probability), I agree you're better off getting closer. But again play the percentages. If your 3w or 5w dispersion is solidly narrower than your driver, hit those. But some people hit driver straighter, so whatever gives you the highest probability of not being in the trees.
