...see, that's the weird thing--we're about the same from SW-8 iron, but then some of you guys just start roping your mid/long irons past me. My driver distance is probably only 10-20 yards behind yours, but it's those 160-210 yard shots that separate my 13 hdcp from your single digit.

Swing speed and contact, most likely. The only reason a 4-iron would go 150 yards is a lack of swing speed or horrid contact.

My average carry distances, when I'm playing halfway decent and not duck hooking the :poop: out of it off the tee:

This may seem short but with the exception of my driver are about 15 yards longer than 2 years ago. I have a tendancy to hold on to my longer clubs which is probably costing 10 yards on my 4w and 1w. I do wonder with incrementl loft and shaft length changes of 4 degrees and 1/2 inch why do short iron gaps vary this much? My 9I is 43, pw is 47, gw 51, sw 55, lw 60.

Your distances are very similar to mine. I really think it's about aim at this stage for myself. I think as long as I can be consistent with the yardage, and 'straight', my distance will come in time.

I too have been gaining yardage slowly since last year so there is hope... but I'm not overly concerned.

One buddy I play quite often with, really outhits me with irons. But he's often spanking them either too far (from inconsistency) or way off target. I usually have to take a longer club, but I'm walking to the short grass more often than him. He also has tremendous problem with anything 3 wood and longer. So I'm in your boat... yardage is kinda 'meh' but it's not a bad boat to be in if you're hitting on target. IMHO.

I hit it a ways, and I've had guys laugh and snicker when I've got 165 to the middle and I pull an 8. I have to play my own game though, and when I hit it pin high they usually quiet down.

That being said, distance relative to club is kind of irrelevant. I don't really chase after distance - I'm much more concerned with keeping it on target these days.

I am using high launching irons with a high launch regular flex shaft but I am thinking about going with a slightly stiffer and lower shaft. Anyone have any shaft reccomendations? ($10/shaft or so).

I notice you play with Mizuno Grads, R300 shafts. I had those same clubs until about 4 years ago. I could never hit those long irons in the air enough to get good distance and those long irons were not nearly as forgiving as my 735's.

Quite. Get yourself a 52deg gap and lose the LW IMHO. You can open up the SW and make a nice flop shot if you wish. You're about 10% longer than I, which I will make up when I really complete that shoulder turn. But I'm in no hurry, consistency rules - not distance - of course.

I had a gap wedge when I had my 775CB set. The lofts between the 9,P,G,SW were are life 4-5 degrees apart. I actually didn't like this very much. I didn't really use the Gap wedge. I don't like taking full swings with wedges. I prefer swing 70-90% within each club.

Seems like your 8 iron is going to waste with those gaps? I would have my lofts checked. If they are correct I would probably drop the 8 iron for something else, or maybe weaken the 8 and nine iron lofts a couple of degrees each. If you already hit the ball high this could be a swing issue.

you're right about that 8 iron...but i think he would know about a swing issue if he even had one...

Here is mine along with swing speed and club specifics:

Wow are you the second coming of John Daly?, to use regular shafts with that swing speed and those distances? Do you have a very long smooth swing?

I think these are the standard for average Golfer like me, this is a reality:

SW : 75-80 yards
PW : 108-120 yards
9i : 120-130 yards (once it landed 150 yards because I hit so high)
8i : 130-140 yards
7i : 140-146 yards
6i : 148-155 yards
5i : 160-170 yards

The rest depends on hybrid and woods..... gulp.
Whats in my Golf Bag:
Driver: Nike Sumo 5000
5 Wood: Mizuno MP-001
Iron: Mizuno MX-950 5-PW

guys, I hit my irons wayyy too far. they are walmart clubs, and i"m wondering if the loft is too steep. i hit my pw 150 yards. I don't swing too hard, but every club after that is the same. 9 can go about 175, 8 about 210.

u Can Never Hit it 2 Far, God i Dont Even Hit It That Distance!

Ur Hcp Is 36 Right? Wow!
