Golf Tee Of The Future.......?

i know you can get winter tees , they are like little upturned buckets , never used one though

I remember a few weeks ago watching "The Greatest Game Ever Played" with Shia Labeouf and was intrigued by the way the tees they used back in the day. They used a little cup similar to a shot glass, filled it with sand and compacted it against the ground.

It made me wonder if I could use a double shot glass (since I like to tee it up a little higher) to have the same type of tee. Also I wonder if this affects the flight of the ball in any way. Thoughts?

That would be the golf tee of the past. Sand tees are definitely no worse than wood or plastic tees and could be worse, so why use them?

With the tradition of the game I doubt it will ever be played on anything but grass. Because of that there's not much reason to reinvent the tee. There's all sorts of newer tees out there now. I use the low resistance tees and have wanted to try the 4 More Yards tees. Once in a while I can feel the old wood tees if I swing through it if the tee box is hard. More so with long irons than anything else. Could be in my head but when that happens I feel like I lose a bit of speed.

I had a golf pro at our course growing up who would remove the small pink eraser out of a number 2 pencil. Stick the sharp end of the pencil into the ground and tee a golf ball on it. Then take a modified swing with a baseball grip and hammer the driver using the ~ 8" tee. It was a way to get some laughs and people excited on the golf range after things started to wind down for the day.

I bought the variety pack and I like them. Not sure it does anything for increased distance but they do feel different. I've only used them for one round and then went back to my usual tee. Mostly because I spent more time looking for the them than I should have. I whacked one about 10y past the end of the tee box. They fly like a badminton birdie.

Part of my concern was also the cost of the brush tees..  For the same price of the brush tees I can buy a decent amount of regular wooden tees and I wasnt sure how durable the brushes were/are.

FWIW I didn't break or lose any. Just wasn't willing to leave any behind so I hunted them down instead of walking away like I usually do. IMO they were pretty durable.

      after some years experimenting around, I've settled on a mixed bag of mostly Pat Simmons vintage Tiger Sharks (the ones with the blue enamal on back of the clubheads): 3 thru 9 iron, + 3 wedges (PW, sand, chipper). Those super heavy clubheads really help me get my swing down and thru the ball. Also I carry an old Taylor 18-degree rescue club, 17-degree and 14 degree ImagineGolf metalwoods, and the famous Pat Simmons "alien" 1-iron. Finally a real brick-on-a-stick, the big-headed Bettinardi Ben Hogan model putter which is excellent for taking the break out of short putts and getting the ball hole high on long ones. Wait....is that 15 clubs? Oh well....

      this topic brought to mind one my favorite golf-spectator memories. Back when, living in Santa Barbara CA, parked in my yellow cab just behind the 10th tee  (c. 380 yard par 4) at SB Muni golf course while eating lunch. A twosome comes by, and first up is this fat little mexican guy who takes a kinda squirelly practice swing, then addresses the ball and bashes a long, high, perfectly straight drive up to w/in about 5 yards of the green. Other guy is dressed to the 9's, pulls out what looks like a $300 driver....and hits a maybe 150-yard pop fly. Slams clubhead to the ground and yells, "it's fat! It's fat! Everything is fat today!!"  And that's how I learned what a "fat" shot is.

      It may not be surprising that in the previous 7,064 posts, this particular point has been discussed. To which I will counter: If we're talking about results, why only the majors? Unless you know something that I don't, neither of us are in any position to judge whether Woods or Nicklaus lived their overall life better, not that such a thing is even objectively measurable, nor is it relevant to the discussion.
