Kim Jong Il only played once, but he recorded multiple hole in 1's. He had no time for golf, he was busy building a city nobody is allowed to live in.

There's a great story about Willie Nelson buying a golf course after which he proudly announced that par was whatever he said it was. For example, Willie decided that the 13th  was a par12 and he went on to say, "one day I almost birdied that sucker!"

I have a set of the copper eye2's. I think they are great looking clubs. I would put them up on a wall to display but I don't have the room. My clubs are in good condition, if they were modern clubs I would say that they would be rated as being in good condition but for being over 20 years old I would say they are in excellent condition. They don't look like the got much use at all, because all the shaft bands are intact. I also like that all the serial number match and they are only a 4 diget number so I would imagine that they were an early set.

I don't get all the hate on here about the ping eye2's. When I first got these clubs I played a round with them I played about the same but some of my distances were off. Is it just because some guy made some ridiculous claims about them on the forum?

Skepticism of the outlandish claims by one guy or that 25 year old clubs can perform close to or as well as modern clubs for some golfers?  They couldn't be that out of date if profesional golfers used them to circumvent the new grove rule.

The BeCu ones are much softer than the regular version.  The best compairson is - hit the hardest ball you can find and then hit the softest ball you can find with the same club.   The difference in  the contact feeling is about the same as the difference when hitting the same ball with BeCu vs regular Ping Eye 2s.

I just found this site and read the entire 13 page manifesto from the previous thread by FamousDavis and the rest of the regulars on here.  While I am new to this board I am not new to forums at all.  Unfortunately, FamousDavis was a MAJOR TOOL, but I think some of his comments are pretty accurate.  Ping Eye 2 irons really are great irons, and while irons aren't "accurate", a good golfer can be more "accurate" with one brand/model of iron than another -  Ping Eye 2's or Callaway X whatevers, Titleist AP? or any other brand/model.  I do think that what is most accurate FOR ME, might not be most accurate for you - as every swing is different.  Obviously, steep swings vs shallow swings - inside out vs. outside in, striking the ball down vs level, etc. etc. Some clubs are made to work better for different swings.  Just like a great player can fire MP14s at the pin all day long, while a hack will fire MP14s all over the course except at the flag. You need clubs that match your game and your swing.... and keep in mind your swing can change, in some cases way too often!

With all that said, I am a 1.2 handicap (which is only OK for a serious golfer - I have no misconceived notions of that being "great" or "people want to watch me") - I am not a member at any Country Club and I have never won a club championship.  I have failed on a few attempts at qualifying for the US Open and hacked it through college on the golf team, so my success is not nearly that of FamousDavis - but I do hit the ball fairly well for a recreational player.  Since I do hit the ball on the club face most of the time, I think it is fair to say that my swing is fairly consistent which makes this "experiment" that I do from time to time fairly valid FOR ME.  I take a number of different 7 irons out to a golf course (lets say 5 brands/models for sake of discussion) late in the evening (before dark) and dropped 25 balls 175 yards out. The balls are marked with 1 dot, 2 dots, 3 dots, 4 dots or 5 dots.  I hit all 25 balls switching clubs on each swing. Be sure to hit each swing as if it were a real shot in a real round of golf.  Line up, take practice swings - do your normal routine.   If you have never done this - I highly suggest it.  Do it from 100, 125, 150, 175 and 200 yards (with the appropriate clubs from each) and when you gather the balls up - note which ones are the best shots.  This is the only way I can figure out which clubs I like better.  If I play an entire round with a set of clubs there are too many variables that can effect the outcome and therefore my evaluation of the irons. Here is my reason for this Novel -   What I have found  FOR ME is that the Ping Eye 2's generally have either the best results or are in the top 2 in most cases.   I am not a huge fan of the big off-set of them, but its hard to argue with their performance.

I own a set of becu eye 2s. From 1985, my grandfather won them in a tournament in arazona. It is a full 1-lob wedge set all matching numbers...they are in magnificent condition and play wonderfully. I however am playing Taylormade tour preferred mb's. ... these clubs are so similar in many facets but looks... for nostalgia I love the eyes... if I want a modern look I bag the taylors. Both play super well..but I read an old thread posted by a ping nutcase that almost made ashamed of playing these clubs.. I'm about a 8-10 handicap but quickly moving to scratch....I hope these types of threads aren't a usual happening here... but thanks for all the great info yall have shared and hope to be a member for a long time...
