Have you ever played with somebody who had a complete meltdown?

Last week I was playing with a guy who had some anger issues. It was a 200 yard par 3 and he shanked 2 straight balls into the woods. He then punched out where it hit a tree and rolled right back to him. When he threw his club, screaming fbombs the entire time, it almost got stuck in a tree. He ended up with a 9 on that hole. Not a good day.

Only heard this from an old playing partner so not being there to confirm other then the band-aid on the one guys forehead a week later.

Three some playing one a good friend. Drinking was involved but this is what happened at Anaheim Hills.

All three are drunk playing one afternoon in the summer. The one guy could not hit the ball to save his life. Got so mad that he walked up to hit, paid no mind to where the other guys where and hit his ball that then hit his friend in the forehead, knocked him out. When he came to they told him that it was a ball from some other fairway that hit him. To this day he has a small scar that looks like a Mercedes Emblem right in the middle of his forehead. Lucky he did not kill his friend, not sure if they ever told him what really happened. I don't play with them any longer they think getting drunk and playing is how you golf.

If they guy is pretty nice, I usually hate to see him throw a tantrum.  Feel kinda bad for him.  If he is kind of a blow hard, I secretly enjoy it.  But in either case, I lose respect for the person.  Hard to respect someone after they totally lose their cool.  Especially in a game where they don't have any salary riding on it or anything.  Usually kinda fun to watch though.

I wasn't playing with the guy but several years ago at Kearsley Lake (Flint, MI) I saw a guy throw his clubs into the lake and walk away to only see him a few minutes later come back and dig his keys out of the bag, leaving everthing else in the lake.

Needless to say he wasn't a very happy camper.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

There is one guy in our club that is a regular tantrum thrower.  The club maker in our area loves him because he is constantly breaking shafts in his clubs.  The 3 biggest meltdowns that I have witnessed:

1. He four putted a par 3 for triple bogey and threw his wedge and putter in the lake.

2. Missed a short birdie putt, threw his putter and it got stuck in a tree.  I laughed until I cried which only made him more angry and led to another meltdown in which he broke an iron he was throwing to get his putter down.

3. Hooks his tee shot in to the woods on the same par 3 and throws his club back at his golf cart.  The club hits the support for the roof and snaps with the club head end coming back to hit him in the leg.  The end of the shaft cuts a vein in his leg and he starts bleeding profusely, we had to go get a nurse that lives just off the course to come stop the bleeding so he could go to the ER to get stitches.

Super nice guy OFF THE COURSE, but not so gentlemanly when playing poorly.

    • I get kidney stones. So 100 oz of water every day. Some nights I drink 32oz between midnight and 6 Am. Which means I dont sleep much.
    • 46 (9 over) Short game and putts were awful!
    • 46+40 for an 86. I just need to play 9 holes on the range before each round. 🤣🤣🤣
    • I don’t measure my intake either. I generally have a black coffee, a bottle of soda, some sweet tea at home, and anything in between is water. An ice cold bottle of water is one of my favorite things. It feels like an immediate refresher for my body. I’ll admit that I need to drink a little more though.
    • For such a nice membership, there have been some bad incidents in the past few years.  We had someone voted out a couple of years ago over something he did and he harassed the board members for three months until he moved out of the area.   Generally they’ve tried to do things like tournament handicaps and identify certain people who they know should be lower and adjust it somehow.  I can understand not wanting to go thru something like the guy who was voted out again i emailed the pro who forwarded it to the handicap committee.  They are going to see what can be done.  I walked someone thru what happened and they are going to nudge him to post the score from the match and see what he does.  Since he didn’t put anything in the electronic scoring past 13, based on how he played 14 and 15 plus having to take bogey on 16-18 for after he left, he should post 83.  We’ll see if it’s even higher,   Since he was really even thru 13, then doubled 14 and parred 15 my guess is he really shot 75 being generous and giving him 2 pars and a bogey on the three holes he didn’t play.    i shot 88, getting 16 shots for my course handicap which is net even and I lost on 13.  We do brackets where handicaps should be within 4-5 of each other.  Most matches only have 1-2 shots as a difference between players  neither of us posted the score yet.  There was something in the match play rules about whether or not to post your score.  I couldn’t remember if we were supposed to or not.  I don’t think he was going to post that, because even with his inflated score it would be the lowest score in his recent 20. Lucky I didn’t because they want to see what he does post and they don’t want me posting so he can try to calibrate his score.
