At a short pitch-and-putt course near me, they have this huge tub filled with recycled golf balls that are 3 for $2.50. Since everybody that plays there is a beginner, they just grab random balls out of there without knowing if they are getting the best or worst balls in the tub. I went there a couple days ago, and it was filled with the best balls in almost perfect condition. I know where I'm now going to get all my new balls, as you can get 12 top of the line balls for only $10.

In that trip I got 3 pro v1's, 1 hx tour-56, 1 bridgestone e6, and 1 top-flight d2 feel for only $5. Does anybody else get there balls like i get mine?

When I want a specific ball type, I get a bag off of eBay.

But, some Roger Dunns have the "Experienced ball" area, and I'll go to that to try out new types. There's also a few courses that I play that sell 'experienced balls', with the same reasoning for me. That's how I went from the Top Flite Strata to the Titleist DT So/Lo. Yeah, 12 top of the line for $10 is an excellent rate!

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

one of the best deals I have ever found is at walmart. they have a large selection of recycled golf balls. a majority of these balls are top flights and other crap balls but every time i went there would always be a pack of prov1x's for 6.99 (dozen)

every now and then you'd find a dead feeling ball but most of the time the balls were in great shape

another way I get my balls is by hawking them at a local private track. they have a road hole that is lined by some strange bush... think canopy but a bambooish undergrowth so it is very easy to manuver through. I go every now and then around dusk with plenty of bugspray and 90% of the balls I find are top notch 3 & 4 piece balls

At my course, they have two buckets; one has four balls for $2 - pretty rough shape - and two balls for $2, and theyre in better condition.

However, I usually bought 48 recycled "American Lake Balls" from JJB for $30. For a few quid more, you could get all sorts of recycled Titleist.

I gotta say though, I think I'm done using them. AmericanGolf have 20% of all Nikes, and so I bought a dozen Nike Juice balls. There's no comparison! Hitting them just feels amazing - like a proper golf ball. They fly, bounce and roll like they should, and feel nice and soft. Lake balls just feel hard and nasty.

That said, I was never a big subscriber to the whole loss of distance arguement; Today's Golfer robot tested lake balls vs. their new equivalent, and there was little difference. But whether or not it was spin, confidence, or just a good day, the Juice went noticably further at times than my old lake balls.

Just purchased 60 Used Pro V1 x's for $70 off of Ebay Express. I played with a guy that highly recommended them. Hopefully, they will last me about three seasons or so. I will let you know how it goes!

I'm not sure what the point of used Pro V1's are though - surely, having been used, they're no better than similarly priced new mid range balls?

I'm probably wrong, and I'm in no way knocking your purchase - I'm just curious.

The Used balls are usually balls found in lakes that are "like new." They actually grade the balls from an A to C and the prices drop as the grade drops. So A balls theoretically like new...like I said, I will see how it goes. To your assesment, a used Pro V1 is still very different than a range ball and I am sure others will agree.

It is a good price, the same is $27 at Target.

I picked up a $7/dozen refinished balls that were all Nike One-Black or One-Platinum. Out of the dozen, three had some sort of promotional marking and the rest were normal. For $7/dozen I was pretty pleased with that buy. The Pro V1's they had were looking pretty clean but $27 seemed a lot for used balls after picking up the Taylor Made TP-Black for $55/2 dozen at the local golf shop. I also hate playing balls with promotional logos on them, not sure why, but I wonder if you would find some of those in the refurbs?

I ended up picking up 60 balls today, $55/2 dozen of the Taylor Made TP-Black, $20/2 dozen Callaway Warbirds, and $7/dozen for the refurb Nikes (only had one box or I would have gotten more, the rest of the boxes were Top Flites or similar).

Recyled and refinished are different. I think they take the beat up, faded balls and put a new coat of paint on them. Personally I'd only stick with recycled balls and not refinished.

I buy whatever is cheap or free. I usally get Pro V1s free, but they are all logo'ed.
If I run out I look for closeout pricing on balls....Nike Black $24, TP Black $27.50, etc.

I agree with buutuh above, I steer clear of refinished balls, especially at that price point

I paid $30 shipped for two dozen Pro V1x from lostgolfballs.com. They are recycled, not refinished, and the large majority of the balls I received were logo overruns or had small markings on them.

I would just like to point out that most of these balls have been recovered from water hazards. Balls that have spent time in a water hazard will start to lose considerable distance off the tee. You may want to consider this when purchasing these balls.

Slide...umm...got a problem loosing your balls???

all kidding aside, why so many?? I think I have bought about 75 since i started playing in December, and while my first two rounds were about 25lost balls combined, I have only lost about 12 in the last 4 rounds, and about 60% due to a mean slice, the other 40% due to lack of patience, and unwillingness to slow down the pace. I do get pretty ticked off when I loose a good ball to weeds, OB or water hazards I can deal with, but weeds and tall grass drives me insane!!! And for the record, I wouldn't buy refinishied balls.... i feel that is like buying a junker car with a fresh coat of paint.... Also check out lostballs.com they have a business model that the max they will ever charge for the mint balls is 50% of retail regardless of the ball. Tehy also have a pretty good rating system so can gauge what you are getting for the money.

I have read a lot on this site about lostgolfballs.com and they seem to have positive reviews. At my local discount store I can get "Reloaded" (brand) Pro V's for around $15 a dozen.

Has anyone compared the two? Are the "Reloaded" balls the same, better or worse? Or do they compare to a AA or AAA ball from lostgolfballs.com?

    • I tried hybrids way back when Titleist introduced the orange copper Firesole Rescue, the clubhead having been made of titanium which was still relatively new even in drivers back then. I couldn't hit it well at all, and while the success of hybrids suggests that the modern ones must be quite good,  I'm perfectly happy with the 5, 7, and 9-woods.  Early ones of mine were Top Flite Flite Intimidator 400s made by Spalding... and also made of titanium, now that I think of it.  I still have them in my basement. I do bag a driving iron, but it's a one-trick-pony that never sees fairway use.
    • The last time I played Maxfli balls, Dunlop was still making them. How long ago was that? Mostly, though, I used to play Top Flites (original 336 dimple model) when Spalding was still making them. Now I play the Pro V1x. Last time that I ordered some, Titleist was still making them. Let's see how long that lasts.
    • Once, on a course in Middleton, Massachusetts that I used to love but has since closed down,  I hit the wrong half of a huge, UK style double green.  Then I made the hundred foot putt.  Tough to  forget that one.
    • No. But if I can still play next year, I'll almost certainly be even worse. That's the reality of not being young.🙁
    • I use GPS;  it may not be as accurate, but neither am I.
