Hello,

I'm getting fitted for a new driver on friday after going to a couple of demo nights recently. I have recently tried the SLDR, G25, XHP and the cobra amp cell. Stock shafts make me sad, I was swinging the amp cell and the G25 with a tour spec speeder 7.2 X in it which was really nice, and was swinging the SLDR with an oban kiyoshi 05 in it which was spitting out bullets. FWIW my swingspeed is about 112-115.

Obviously I'll compare the numbers and get whatever suits me best but I was just wondering if there are any other shafts I should get them to put in for me to try that may be similar to the kiyoshi or the speeder? I like the 70ish gram weight range. I assume all of these heads are going to be relatively similar distance wise?

Also for anyone who has tried the anser and the G25, how did you find they compared? Everyone I talk to says the G25 is the most forgiving driver they have ever hit and that certainly appeals, if i could hit more fairways i'd certainly score better.

Any suggestions would be great cheers.

I have the G20 driver and love it. it certainly helped my game. Very forgiving and long. I would not trade it for any other driver regardless of cost. Not sure of the difference between the g20 and 25 but it can't be much.

In my opinion, getting fit to the right shaft is much more important than the brand of the head.  There are so many variations in weight, kickpoint, stiffness, etc. that a proper shaft fitting is what makes the most difference.

Whenever I get fit for clubs, once I get the right shaft, I hit all of the heads virtually the same.  so, yes, try all the shafts they have, regardless of what head is on them,  Once you find a few you like, then start messing with the head.

I really love my Titleist driver, but I've heard nothing but good things about the Ping G25.  The shaft is the biggie, and I wouldn't go into the fitting with preconceived notions about what you want.  If you are dealing with a good fitter they should help you zero in on what works best.  Sadly, I know there are professional fitters and there are guys that work at retail stores whose job includes doing fittings in those booths with the golf course movie screen and computer gizmo.  Professional fitters are better.....

It's an outdoor fitting not one in the back of a shop so shouldn't be too bad in terms of that. I couldn't care less about brand or colour or anything like that. Whatever works for me is fine. I honestly think I'll probably end up with the speeder shaft because I have creamed that in about 3 different heads so far, but if something performs better that will be what ill get. Just wanting to find more fairways at this stage because my iron play is pretty solid.

Cheers though

Head is important.  Heads are more or less forgiving and the spin they impart on the ball is different.  Depending on your swing you may want more or less spin.  Get a competent fitter.

I agree. I just picked a G20 driver up on saturday and absolutely love it. I was using the Nike VRS driver before and it is like night and day between these two clubs. I have literally gained 15- 20 more yards using the G20. The one thing that I absolutely love about this club is the feel at impact, the ball just jumps off the face. The Nike driver had more a dead feeling which I wasn't to fond of.

Driver: Ping G20 10.5*

Hybrid: Ping G20 20*

Irons: Ping G15 4-AW

Wedges: CG 14 56*, CG 16 52*
