Different Shaft Flexes in The Bag

Currently with my clubs I have two different shaft flexes:

My driver and 17* hybrid are a stiff flex

Irons and wedges are regular flex

Does anyone else have mixed flexes in their golf bag?  Also, how would having the incorrect flex effect ball flight, especially with irons.

Yes. Driver is X. Everything else is S, except the wedges which are close to midway between.

Hey ... me too!  Actually, I don't really know what the flex of my iron shafts are.  My fitting summary from last year says that the shafts for the 4I-UW are KBS Tour 120, flex 5.5.  And the wedges are KBS Tour 130, flex 5.3.  Are those stiff??

My driver, though, is definitely X, and my 3 wood and hybrid are S.

If Your Flex Is Too Stiff

1. The ball will probably fly lower and shorter for any given loft, compared to a properly fit shaft.

2. The ball may tend to go to the right, or fade side, for right-handed golfers because with a too-stiff shaft the clubface is harder to square (the clubface is more likely to be open at impact).

If Your Flex Isn't Stiff Enough

1. The ball might fly higher for any given loft, compared to a properly fit shaft.

2. The ball may tend to go left, or to the draw side, for a right-handed golfer (because with a too-flexible shaft, the clubhead may tend to come into the ball closed).

In all cases, the operable word is 'may', as in maybe yes or maybe no. I highly suspect that the difference between a S or R could only be found at relatively high, 100+, clubhead speeds.

There are no uniform standards in the shaft industry. An R flex shaft may play the same as an S from another company, and even the same labeled shafts from the same company aren't identical...Not to mention different kick points and torque characteristics.
