NYT talks about double standards for women w/respect to competitiveness. Recaps the Suzann Petterson Solheim cup incident and compares her competitiveness to Phil Mickelson's during the Ryder Cup when he made that gave away two holes statement.

Quote

To be a female athlete is to be ever mindful that appearances matter. Prettiness is next to godliness, which is why many of the players wear makeup during tournaments and treat their competitiveness as an imperfection that needs to be covered up with hugs and smiles. The same icy stare that identifies Tiger Woods as a fierce competitor is off-putting when it freezes Pettersen’s opponents.

Here's a trailer for the documentary mentioned:

Petterson Solheim to Mickelson Pres. Cup (not Ryder Cup ;)) is a silly comparison.  She made a poor judgment during competition that would have been viewed equally as bad if done by a man.  She was not roasted for that decision for being female, she was roasted for getting too caught up in the moment and basically being a jerk.

Mickelson was just running his mouth during a press conference.  It's not the gender that might make the reaction to that different for different people, its personality.  Mickelson or Petterson says it, and it's not unexpected ... InBee Park or Chris Kirk says it, and its a little shocking.

I agree.

I also agree that women are slighted for being "competitive" and cannot stand the hugging and all that. The guys will root on their friends, but half the time they'll just say it to a reporter a week later, a "Yeah I was happy to see (player) get one there. He's been working hard on his game. Now I'm gonna go try to beat him."

I get that hugs are like handshakes, but not really…

My daughter is more competitive than most. I like that about her.

Yeah that's a crappy comparison.

    • Typically less than 50. I find this can be affected by the "CART" signs on a given course. I don't like taking my rangefinder out of the cart and carrying it around to the green. I am very fearful I will leave it somewhere.
    • First ever holed out greenside bunker shot! It's crazy it took this long to finally get one during a round, but the cold streak is officially over. Hole 6 on the Palmer Course at PGAN. I hit my driver like 225 into a really stiff wind, then worm burned a hybrid into the bunker. I was about I dunno, 40-45 feet away. Birdie! Let's go! The red Xs the approximate location of each shot.  Really fun!!
    • Day 23: Rained all day, so no ball hitting. Worked indoors on top of the backswing feel, and also putted around the living room working on bead.
    • Played Four Oaks in Dracut today going back to the 2 man scramble match play format. My brother and I shot a team 81 winning 3 and 2. Had so many good shots today using a more centered turn. Seems to have really iginited my golf game. We'll see if I can keep it going.
    • I read about him.  Hopefully we have a good “Next Generation” in PGAT future
