Hello! 1st post on the sand trap! I can tell I am going to spend a lot of time on here.

I was curious how many people out there play the same shafts in their irons as their hybrid/s.

I was just fitted for 716 AP2's with KBS tour 90 stiff shafts. I have a fairly smooth tempo and and a early release. I only ordered the 5-P for the irons and have decided I would like to do 21 degree and 24 degree titliest hybrids for the 3 and 4 iron replacements. The kbs tour 90 stiffs weigh about 102g per shaft. What are the benefits of playing a graphite shaft in a hybrid? Trying to keep a smooth transition from the iron set

Any and all info is appreciated!

Lighter weight = more swing speed. Hybrids are typically longer so they want to keep the SW a bit lighter.

Most professionals will play steel shafts in their irons and use graphite shafts in their hybrids.

Hybrid heads are lighter than iron heads so they need a softer shaft to flex properly.  You can put a steel shaft in if you can match the hosel size (usually .370), but the flex will be waaay stiffer than it would be with an iron head because the shaft is not designed for a head that light.

Thanks for the info guys. Now to find the right graphite shaft for me.

You might look for something in the 75-85g range - Mtisubishi and Aldila seem to be trending upwards. They have several hybrid models from which to choose. Titleist probably has both in their custom catalog and some are at no charge. Take a look.

Looks like they have two Diamana shafts in that weight range that are great shafts -- if they fit you. White is usually low launch and spin, while the S+ Blue is a bit friendlier with some kick.

Lead tape, hot melt, or a heavier Tour style head can fix that. Don't count out steel.
