Call it what you will, wood or metal, I am head over heels in love with this club. I find my self wanting to lay up off the tee on shorter par 4's so I can hit this baby. It swings so easy and the sound of contact is so crisp and the feel is a buttery thwack. I can hit it with a good deal of confidence anywhere from 160 to 185ish.

Anyone else in love with their fairway 5?

Absolutely! I love my 5 wood. I wouldnt lay up just to hit it, but I do look forward to the longer par 5's so I can thwack it and go for the green in two. I also tee off with it on par 4's where there is trouble and getting in the fairway is of the utmost importance.

I must say---Replace your 5-wood with a hybrid and you be even more happy. Trust me on this one.

"People think the size of the head is most important. Wrong. It's getting a quality shaft. test different shafts to see which goes the straightest. Also, more degrees of loft on the head is better than less. Eleven degrees is about right."

Couldnt care less about hybrids and honestly a little sick of hearing about them. I hit my 5 wood great and my irons great. Why would I change something that is not broken. It's kinda like asking Tiger to switch putters...

Of course on the other hand my putting game is atrocious. I switch putters all the time....

Yeah, absolutely love my 5-wood (80's vintage steel-shafted persimmon wood). Hits off the tee, fairway, rough, doesn't matter, and it's gapped perfectly behind my 3-wood.

Don't think I'd ever give up any club I can hit well and gives me so much confidence, to try and learn how to hit a new type of club that I don't need.

Nothing against hybrids, really. If they work for you, that's great. We should all use what works for us as individuals.

I like mine just fine. I got it about two years ago when I got my irons, almost a year before I got a driver, 3W, hybrid, or wedges. It's awesome.

I'm debating, at some point, swapping it, my 3H and 4H out and replacing them with the Nickent 3+ and 4+ hybrids. Tempting, since my next set of irons has strong lofts, so I'd want to try 4 wedges since it'd really be 3 wedges plus a renamed nine iron.

i quite like mine. It's a Ping Zing Maple Blonde wood (kinda like persimmon)

I haven't used it in competition yet (I have a Rescue which does a lot more - as R7 425 said) but it's great for the range to focus and hit more accurate shots. I use it as a training tool rather than for hitting shots on the course.

honestly my 5 wood gets used maybe once a round (to clear the bushes on my 18th hole) - i am seriously considering replacing it with a 2 hybrid

I love my 5 wood. I wouldn't trade it for a hybrid.

I used to love my 5 wood until I yanked it in 2006 during a 2-club trade.

Outta the bag:
5 wood
3 iron

Into the bag:
3 Hybrid (19°)
Gap wedge

I got a lower trajectory with the 3H, which was better on windy days. I also split the distance between the 3i and 5w with the 3H. I put the 5W (or 3i) in the bag when I pull the driver, which isn't very often.

I feel the same way about my 7 wood. I can really smoke it out of the rough! I do have a 3 hybrid, but I always go back to the 7

I have 3 different 5 woods and I can't hit them nearly as well as the hybrid thats replaces them. The hybrid gives you much more playability, and I think they are easier to hit.
