I'm gonna answer it this way...how can one know if a golf dealer wont ever let you swing the club. Granted, one iron costs more 4 new sets of tires, but i'm going to go out on a limb and say they won't make you into Tiger Woods.

are those 10,000$ sets worth it

I've never even heard of them. There's ten thousand dollar golf equipment? I'm all for investing in a good game but that's too much for me, even if I had the money sitting around.

Too put it simply, not really. From what I have gathered about Homna they are your fairly standard no frills golf club with bits of shiny gold attached.

In terms of the *top end* market I would go with Japanese forging brands such as Miura or Epon or Vega, all of which in American money will cost around $2000.

However I feel apart from the clubs mentioned above, you are best to go with a set of custom fit irons such as Snake Eyes or Orka, both are component clubs (meaning you but the head of the iron from the company and then mix and match the shafts and grips to suit you). Buying with these brands you will get a full custom fit service at a VERY good price.

This in IMHO = much better value for money, and greater performance benefits than buying a brand new set of 'off the rack' Mizunos.

i found out the top of the line homnas are a 30,000$ iron set they are so expensive because the cavitys are lined with diamonds i have no clue why but that still doent explain the many other no frill 10,000$ sets

Is this just bling, like the April Fool's joke a few years ago about gold-rimmed tees? Or does diamond-lining in the cavities help the forgiveness factor somehow?

You can get brand new Honma heads for about $300-$400. You can then purchase the shafts, separately. The result is a brand new Honma set for less than a brand new set of Mizuno, Taylormade, Titleist irons.

Personally, I'll save the diamonds for my wife.

The only time I see Honmas on the course are with older Korean couples (I play around the coast of So. Cal) and haven't seen any wow factor in seeing/hearing them being hit. I think it may be pretty much a prestige thing with them to show how much you can spend on clubs (like owning a Rolls or Bentley).

It's odd though I only see them sold in mom & pop korean/japanese-owned shops and not at retailers like Roger Dunn & Golfsmith.

there is an old Africa story that i once heard that relates to so many things (not sure on the wording, but the story is the same):

A foreign tourist walks up to a poor village market in South Africa. He see's on lady selling machine-made clay pots with a cactus in them for $10 dollars. He looks to the next lady who is selling exact same pot and cactus for $150. He asks the second lady, 'Why are you selling the same thing for 15 times the price?' She responds 'some people will pay $140 for the same pot'.

Just goes to show, people will pay more for a car because they want to pay more. To a degree, golf clubs are a very similar story.

ps: i hope they play outstandingly > because they look god-aweful

Remember, most of those items were released "Japan only." The game is more of status. Therefore, they're going to charge more knowing that they can get it. They have really nice stuff, some of it at really good prices. I agree, though, some of their prices are crazy. $1000 for a Callaway driver? Not in this lifetime.
