I guess you could say I got some new clubs. Relatives sent me some money and told me to buy 3 new wedges, so I got 3 new Vokey wedges (see signature). I also ordered a set of Srixon I-701 irons on Friday. Hopefully they will show up within the next few weeks. I think I'm set on my other clubs for now, but we'll see if anything catches my eye in the future.

New Driver Ordered
New 3 Wood Ordered
Two New Hybrids Ordered

Hard to say I got anything for the new season since there is no off-season here, but over xmas I added my sumo hybrid and mallet putter.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

I bought my putter. May not seem like a lot but I am really proud of it. All my friends are rich, thier parents buy them everything. I got a job, and used some of the money to buy a better putter than all of them

And I also put better than all of them. And I love the putter. The only thing I miss about my previous, crappy, 3 inches to long, feather-light putter was the feeling of using the crappy equipment to beat my rich snob friends who all are horrible

I bought my putter. May not seem like a lot but I am really proud of it. All my friends are rich, thier parents buy them everything.

Never compare yourself to another person or player based on money or equipment. I guarantee you, when they're breaking their new toys over their needs out because they "feel" they deserve to make every shot akin to Tiger Woods and you are using the equipment you worked to earn, you win regardless of what is on the score card. This is the beauty of golf. No one deserves to make a putt. No one deserves to hit the ball 300yards. No one deserves to hole that improbable wedge from the sand to win that match. You earn every shot. You earn every lucky bounce. You earn every swing one at a time. The old adage of "play what you got" is time honored and utterly true.

My bag is full of 12yo Mizuno MP29 blades that were the only clubs ever given to me at the time or since (HS graduation present and every other set 4 of them prior I bought via working for the money - mowing lawns for other people growing up) and the absolute only thing I could think of as a present for graduating from HS. Honestly, they were expensive and simply graduating from HS did not entitle me to them, but my parents paid for them and to this day I feel like I am paying them back every time I pure a shot and I am utterly thankful for them. Alas, my PW, 8i, 9i, 7i are borderline playable as the sandy ranges over the years have worked them smooth and the time is coming when I will have to retire them to a place of honor. Always, always, be proud of what you have. Use it to better yourself and not to show up someone else, but to simply better yourself. The tools of golf are more the tools of life, it really isn't the arrow it is the Indian behind it. Now, I will hop off the ol' soapbox (I too had a bad day and unfortunately, my range was not open tonight to go relieve frustration.) As for new clubs: Ping Redwood Anser @ 34" and custom fit to me. Absolutely love the putter. I was looking for a vintage Anser and ran across this and 2 hours later after hitting more putts than the poor folks in the store could imagine, I was sold on it. I truly believe it is comparable to the Scotty Camerons and, at least for me, superior if only for the not-so subtle fact that the grip is infinitely more comfortable to me.

Irons: MP-29c (2-PW)
Wedge: Vokey 56/8 bent to 54
Wedge: Tour 60degree
Putter: Redwood Anser (34in)
3-Wood: PT @ 13.5degreesDriver: Burner TP 9.5 (65g Shaft)

made me feel a lot better, thanks. I also think that the redwoods are on the same level as scotty camerons. I just liked the scotty a bit more, and I was able to get a deal on it. But I would be perfectly happy with an anser redwood

The Burner Driver - just awesome. Love hitting it. Replaced the R7 425

The Seemore Brass Blade FGP Putter - Am loving this putter, not 100% used to it yet, sometimes the strike isn't great but that's me, not the putter.

Ping Team Voyage Bag - got one last month from college - not as much room as the Titleist but I get by. Looks great in red and black.

On the way - a Ping Tour W 54/10 wedge , once I get a voucher i'm owed. Too much bounce on the Vokey, plus the grooves are worn. Great reviews in magazines about the Tour W.

I bought a Callaway Hyper X Driver a few weeks ago and I'm very pleased with it.

I have been playing the Cobra Baffler DWS with the Aldila NV shaft. The 2008 Bafflers have the Aldila Proto By You shaft. I bought a new 20 degree with the Proto shaft, in order to determine through play which shaft I prefer. The Proto feels somewhat stiffer to me than the NV shaft. One day at the Pro Shop I asked our young pro if he could tell me the difference between the shafts. He said that the Proto was softer and easier to get up in the air. My experience told me just the opposite. Have any of you noticed the difference between the two shafts? Or do any of you know the difference between the two shafts? I went to the Aldila web site, but found it somewhat less than helpful.

I like my irons, wedges and putter, so I don't anticipate buying anymore equipment this season; that is, unless I start genuflecting uncontrollaby around some new putter or 3 wood. Oh, I hope not.

don't feel too bad... you're not the only one who has had to work hard to get the clubs you want... my parents bought me my first set, and it was fairly cheap... after that I have worked for every peice of new equipment I have bought. I have also paid my own way through much of undergrad and all of law school. I see classmates here in law school who's parents paid their tuition, bought them cars, paid their rent, etc... but they will never be as thankful as me for their careers or their stuff because they didn't work as hard as I did to get it.

    • I always get adds for "Find your Eastern European Soulmate" I think it's a nifty gadget to have at home. If your going to do a dedicated putting session I could see setting it up. Thanks for sharing.
    • Here's the bet. Assuming the pursuit of a Tour card holds, who wins their first Tour event? Charlie, or this Russell kid? Bet is off if Miles Russell signs with LIV.
    • It seems like too much work for me. I'm actually surprised at myself for spending as much time on this as I already have. Shot Scope tells me my shots to finish with a 7i is 0.1 better than with my 50 or 55 so I'm just going to go with it. Actually, I tend to be the complete opposite. I've never faced a shot I'm convinced I can't hit. It leads to great heroics and complete flops. Conservative for me might just be someone else's normal.
    • Tell me you've not seen Bill play without telling me you've not seen Bill play? 😄 Just teasing @billchao. 😄
    • And like Matt said, and I have hinted at… it's ONE ROUND. Because you have to get hot. Better players than him failed to get through. And… Peaked too soon, perhaps. He could also get injured, get surpassed, lose interest or lose his game… Again, if I trusted y'all to uphold the bet, and if the bet wasn't basically a 15-year proposition… I'd bet y'all. The odds are against him, and heavily so. So… he didn't qualify, and he's playing on a sponsor's exemption. Jordan Spieth was 16 years old when he tied for 16th in a PGA Tour event… and I realize that mentioning Jordan Spieth (who has obviously had a lot of success) seems to argue against my point, but Spieth is the exception and he did better at only a year older than this fella. The odds are strongly against him.
