Wow. What a finish. He was tied with Pampling up to the last 3, then Pampling bogied 17 with a horrible tee shot and a great sand save.

Phil cut his tee shot into the left rough amongst a stand of trees, then hit an incredible shot onto the green from 8 feet, and sank the putt to win it, while Pampling made his par.

Most entertaining 72nd I've seen so far this season.

The guy needs to fix his driver though.

I was in the office watching it and all three of us said "Wow," almost in unison.

A wedge, from the rough, up and over the trees, and he drew it to within 10 feet.

I never much cared for him but today may have changed my mind.

Who saw the awesome fan jump in the water when he sank the putt?

It looked like a cannon ball into the water.

Phil's putting and greens in regulation were good this week, but I agree that he'll need to find more fairways with the US Open comming up. http://www.pgatour.com/players/00/18...2008/r021.html I'm suprised Butch Harmon hasn't instructed Phil to keep the front foot grounded during the swing. Phil is flexible enough (espeically with his weight loss and stretching) to keep the lower body stable and still coil (like Ernie Els and the majority of tour pros). All that lower body motion is costing him consistency on his drives, and I don't know that it is doing him any good with regard to distance. Regardless I enjoyed seeing Phil win again.

Notice that he ditched his mallet and is using a full on blade, a minimalist approach. Putted very nicely with it. Now the driver is another question. If he hits a drive like that on 18 in the Open, good luck.

You would think #2 in the world wouldn't step up to the tee on 18 tied for the lead and hit a banana slice behind the trees, or off the hospitality tent. Thought Butch Harmon was supposed to fix that?

U.S. Open will be wide open because what can we expect of Tiger? If Phil's putter stays hot he will have a shot, but so far he's never come through at the Open.

That fan was an idiot but the jerk who yelled "Way to go, Phil" as Pampling was putting was way out of line. Yes, the tourney was over. However, there is a huge difference between a 2nd and 3rd place, check. Never mind the FedEx points.

And people complain when Tiger or Rori drop F bombs on people.

I'm not sure I'd call that "awesome." I don't like it when people behave badly, and that qualifies.

I actually had Pampling in a pool and not Phil, so I was a little upset. But that second shot was down-right spectacular. And then the guy who jumps in the water after he makes his birdie = priceless

That gets my vote for shot of the year.Under one tree over another 140 yards with a 52 degree wedge and a 10 yard draw to boot!!!!Yes he will have to work on his driver for the open but if you look at his stats it is when he gets above 305 avg he gets in trouble.I think he thinks he can't win at 290-295 off the tee.He started the week hitting plenty of fairways at 295 anf finished up at 317 and missing allmost all of them go figure.

It was an ultimate "Phil Fan" occasion.
He's gutty.
He may be other things as well but the second at 18 took some brass.
