I've been thinking of this lately. Players from my school are doing quite well in some national matches, and with the wonder that is FaceBook, it's really easy to send a direct message to them, even if you don't know them.

So I'm wondering what the etiquette for this is. I started wondering after the NCAA Div 1 championship, in which UCLA won and a UCLA player had the low individual score. It is possible that someone from UCLA could win the Women's Publinx - it would be her second victory in that tournament. However, I don't know either player in question. Would it be weird to send a congratulations through something like FaceBook? I wasn't a student athlete, so I don't know what it's like to be a non-professional with fans. I can imagine, if I were in that situation, reacting with either "cool, I have fans" or "that's a weird message to get."

Doing this is the electronic version of "fan mail." I think she would be psyched to get a congratulatory note especially since she's not a pro.

I wouldn't find it weird at all for doing it on facebook, Although because most use it for private use for themselves, and not specifically for golf. Maybe email the person congratulating them.
