I've worn a hole in my glove in roughly 20 rounds....

Its a Nike glove that I purchased at the begining of league play this year. I have 10 weeks of league play which is 9 holes, and then I have played a full round probably 8 to 10 times that I can think of.

On my glove hand (left hand, as I'm a righty) I have worn a hole in the glove at the edge of my palm, opposite side of the thumb. I looked at my old glove that is still in my bag and same deal. Its worn in that spot as well. So what does that mean? I had one of the fellas I play with tell me that it means my grip is a palm grip and that I should hold the club in my fingers instead.

Any links or help on this one would be appreciated.

Mine tend to wear out in a similar spot, but not after 10 rounds, probably more like 25-30. Do an internet search(google, yahoo, ect..) for "proper golf grip" and you will find tons of articles and videos.

This is probably what it means. That you're not holding the club enough in the fingers. Harvey Penick said the test of a good grip is trying to hit 3 or 4 balls in a row without having to re-grip the club. You can do this if you're not gripping it in the palm.

He also said that with the proper grip you should be able to play all summer with the same glove. I've been using the same glove since April and it looks like it came out of the package. We're talking 50 plus rounds. Before I changed my grip to get it more in my fingers, I used to blow through at least a glove or two a month.

I call bull on above! 50+ rounds and looks new? You must have some super amazing gloves.

My friend had a similar problem and it was because he was holding the club all the way to the edge. Try gripping down a little so the edge of the club doesn't rub against your glove.

20 rounds? Whatever i use... Footjoy F3's or Taylormades or anything...they go bad here in florida after a couple practice sessions and a round or 2....haha its hot down here.

But yea, its definitely a grip issue. Have someone show you what a proper grip looks like. Even with everything on the internet, you wont get the same feedback as just asking your golf pro at your local course to check out your grip

I go through them pretty quickly in Texas. I try and rotate 2-3 different ones per round, changing every 2-3 holes. The humidity isn't good for them at all.

Call bull all you want. You're wrong. Why in the HELL would I make up something like this. I don't live in Florida, I live in Pennsylvania. I don't play in 90 degree heat everyday. I play in the mornings and it's usually not over 75.

In Golf My Way, by Nicklaus, he said that growing up in Ohio he used to use the same golf glove all summer. I'm going to bet that's more than 50 rounds. But I have a feeling you're going to call bull on Jack Nicklaus as well. I have better things to do than make up how long a glove lasts me. Fix your grip and you'll see.

20 rounds played isn't abnormal.
It gets worse the more I sweat.
It doesn't seem to matter whether I store them in the open or in a bag.
Fast dry: they crack
Slow dry: they rot

I stopped wearing one last year.
I love it.

If you have a strong grip on the club that could do it, especially with a tough kind of club grip.

In my opinion even after 20 rounds you should not have a hole in your glove. Grip pressure might be the problem. Do you hold the club like you are holding a tub of tooth paste without the cap? or holding a live bird gently? Can someone pull on the club when it is extended out with you loosing your balance?

I played with a glove that is near the end of its life with sweat stains and there are scuff marks but no holes in the glove with about 20 rounds or more.

Did it take awhile to get used to? Does the club ever slip?

It didn't take me any time at all except for (as you mentioned) a nagging fear of the club slipping. The club doesn't slip.

I do carry really thin cotton gloves for rain. I had started removing the glove for any shots with a wedge about 10 years ago. That worked very well for feel so I just said the hell with it the last time somebody asked me for $18 for a glove. The glove wouldn't have lasted last much longer than the sleeve of balls I bought.

How often do you hit the range?

I know when I hit it more my gloves seemed to go a lot faster. Honestly I am on my 4th glove in 9 months which probably equates to about 85 rounds.

I can't pretend to know about what is causing your holes. But I started setting the grip more in my short fat fingers about 6 months ago. I can't tell you how many balls I've hit. I know I play 36 holes a week and the seams in my fingers started to unravel, the matarial started to get a crusty texture, but I swear there are no holes in the palm. My fingers are like vice grips though. I played electric and upright bass for 20 years.

I have a pretty strong grip myself and I wore through a glove in 2 rounds and 6 sessions at the range. This is with a footjoy glove.
