So, I stayed up way tooo late last night watching the last All-Star game ever to be played at the historic Yankee Stadium (the new one will be complete for next season). The American League won again, but after 15 innings of compelling ball. There were a lot of great defensive plays (Dan Uggla excluded) and only a handful of brilliant offensive moments. But I'm curious to know whether I was the only one who watched.
If you stayed up for the entire game, what was your favorite moment?

I stayed up 'til the end of the 12th inning. It was 12:45, I was tired, and no one was scoring...so I just turned it off.

I'm on the west coast, so I watched the entire thing, with some flipping back to the Golf Channel to watch the Approach in between.

Best moment for me was the introduction with the Hall of Fame players out there, and then in the game, when the AL had the bases loaded, no one out, and failed to get a run. Cook did a good job of handling his three innings.

MLB is lucky it ended when it did or they would have had another tie like in Milwaukee on their hands.

I watched until the 9th inning. I had to get up early this morning. The All-Star game was fun but the homerun derby was amazing. Josh Hamilton really put on a show.

I don't stay up that late for baseball.
ESPN's recap on SportsCenter was about as good as watching a game this morning anyway.

I watched up until Mo was done - pretty exciting stuff - Strike em out throw em out DP in the 9th, and an inning ending double play in the 10th with a base-runner coming home from 3rd. After that I didn't care...though I thought Miguel Tejada's sidearm throw to end the inning in the bottom 9 (and save the game at the moment) was pretty cool too!

I passed out during the top of the 10th (way too late for me already). The best part was seeing Wagner and Papelbon suck it up. Neither belongs on the same field as Mariano.

I tuned in during the 12th inning after seeing that the game was still going on espn's bottom line ticker thingie. I was kind of wondering what would happen if it went another inning, being that both teams were out of pitchers. Was Francona and Hurdle gonna have to go out there and toss BP?

On a side note, deciding the home field advantage based on the winner of the all star game is just stupid. Well, its something more than stupid but I don't feel like using any colorful metaphors.

I watched the whole game. I am usually not a big baseball fan, but this game was kind of historic so I watched. I got tired, but stuck it out. The National team should have lost at least 3 times before they actually did lose. Uggla was pathetic.....First he hit in to double play with players in scoring position, then his 2 errors in a single inning loaded the bases with no outs (they got out of it somehow)....then in the next inning he strikes out with bases loaded and I'm not positive, but I think he made another error later. He should have quit. I'll miss this Yankee Stadium. I saw a good show "Yankee Stadium The Cathedral" on ESPN and it would be a good dvd to add to collection.

Indeed.

I agree - It is stupid. If they're gonna make this game 'count', then why not make this game count towards each players' statistics so that they would have even more incentive to perform well. I know not all players judge themselves based on statistics, but it definitely can be an elephant in a room for some. Just doesn't make sense to make it count in one way and not another.

Ever since Ed Goren Bud Selig instituted the winning league gets home field in the World Series rule, I have been bitter about the All Star game. The very idea that the fans get to vote the starting rosters for the teams who will ultimately decide who gets home field advantage in the World Series just pisses me off. It completely devalues what is the most grinding and amazing regular season in all of sports. There is no good reason that the team with the best record can't have home field.

That being said, I am not going to lie. I did, in fact, watch almost all of this year's All Star Game. Despite the absolutely moronic rule and the fact that players who shouldn't have been there were there and players who weren't supposed to be used were getting used, the baseball itself was fun to watch and exciting.

I just wish they would leave it as an exhibition game. Are there people who actually give a crap if the All Star Game ends in a tie?

To be honest, a part of me really was hoping for a tie. I wanted to see Bud squirm in his seat as he made some futile attempt at diplomacy while making up a rule on the fly. Personally, I would rather see home field advantage go back to the way it was - alternating every year. The easiest way to incentify the All-Star game would then be a cash bonus - say split all of the game's profits equally among the winning player's favorite charities?

I didn't watch the whole game. I have a HUGE beef with all these "primetime" games starting at 9:00. All sports do this. Don't they realize that the advertising after 12:00 is wasted for the people who get up and make the money to buy the products they are plugging? If they had spent less time stroking the already enormous Yankee egos they could have had this game started at 7:00. Televised sports are rarely for the working man anymore. Mainly for the early 20s guy who can stay out all night in the bar drinking and cheering.

Oh well, I'm getting too old I guess. Can you say curmudgeon? I'm not sure I can spell it right. Rant over.

Holy resurrected thread Batman!

Except 7pm on the East Coast is 4 pm on the West Coast and 5pm Mountain time. You would lose half of the nation's viewers who aren't home from work yet.
