How many of you play 1/2 shots or 3/4 shots when you are in between clubs or need to play a low runner and take one or two more clubs to play these shots?

I do it all the time. I've found that a gripped-down half swing PW from about 100-110 is twice as accurate and consistent as a full 56.

I had to play a low shot under a tree from 130 yards and hit a easy 3/4 7 iron and hit the center of the green.

I try to have a 2/3 shot and 1/2 shot. I use them for shots less than 105 yards (my SW distance) and to hit shots under tree limbs. The 2/3 shot I stop my backswing when my arms are at 9 o'clock. The 1/2 shot I stop the backswing when the clubhead is at 9 o'clock.

So if I need an 80 yard shot I could hit 2/3 of a pitching wedge (120 yard full) or 1/2 of a 7 iron (160 yard full).

I really should have gone with 2/3 of a nine iron on the 95 yard par 3 today, rather than trying to soften up my SW. Caught it totally flush and ended up going 10 yards past.

I've actually been working on my punch shots A LOT lately because when you miss the fairway as much as I do, you don't have much of a choice other than punching under some branches now and then.

I now have new found respect for Tiger's wrist and forearm strength because those stingers take a lot of that. My best 3-wood stinger goes as far right as it does out. I guess that's what separates me from the pros.

I always excelled at any form of mathematics, but 9/16 or 11/32 shots were never for me. I don't like 3/4 shots, so I carry 5 wedges. I'm not afraid to admit that. I like hitting full, hard shots.

But for punch outs, I might think 3/4. Also slowing the swing down helps me keep it low. It's like it takes some spin and lift off the ball, which helps keep it under the obstructions.

I played into the wind and hit an easy 6 iron back in my stance with a 3/4 swing and hit a control shot below the wind.

I use them on occasion. Sometimes on par 3's to control flight if it's windy. A 3/4 or 1/2 shot into or down wind controls the shot much better. Also, these come in handy if you've just 'lost it' for the day, and for some reson can't hit your irons straight (it happens). Take 3/4 irons the rest of the round to control where your going. Sometimes you just gotta play with what you got for the day....
