Mine is low enough to leave about an inch and a half of space between my lower hand and the bottom of the grip.

I am about the same. I used to use the full length of the putter but a friend of mine pointed out that I was too far away from the ball (my eyes weren't directly over the ball). I have since adjusted and have improved my putting dramatically.

Depends on the shot. I choke down for shorter putts but grip it a the top of the shaft for longer putts.

I used to choke down dang near the end of the grip. Only reason being that is where I felt comfortable. When I got fitted for my putter Yes! shortened the shaft for me and now I don't choke down.

I choke down all the way to the end of the grip and my finger touches the shaft. I've always done it no matter how short the putter shaft was..33 - 35" i still choke down to that position. I just like the weight and feel of the club at that point.

Choke down to near the bottom of the grip. And I don't like a short putter (35" shaft on mine)... I prefer the counterbalance effect of having that 3" of grip and shaft above my hands. It seems to give me better control of the putter head.

I don't choke down at all. I don't really see why unless your putter is too long for you?...Mine is 33" so I really feel it lets me swing my arms freely.

If that guy four putts a lot as he name suggests... I would do the opposite of what he says

Things I Am Good at in Golf

- Hitting it in the drink
- Finding the rough with my drive
- Staying in the bunker- Hitting grassburners all the way to the hole- Three putting- Posting over par on 18 in only 9 holes- Swinging and missing with an iron

Compare your handicap to mine, then make your own judgment

I do the same thing. I have a 35" shaft but choke down 1-2". I can use my dad's 33" but I am more comfortable with choking down with my putter.

was wondering if you guys choked/gripped down on your putter for shorter putts

or maintained the location of your hands no matter the length of putt

Always the same.  I don't see how one could maintain consistency if he kept changing.

Somewhat like CG. Never felt comfortable choking down. Always liked having the full weight/shaft below my hands. Problem was my putter was 35", eyes were in the clouds and putts were all over the place!! Cut the putter down to 33" and its all better now. Although the backaches are getting worse!

I don't choke down at all.  I putt left hand low and basically put the end of the grip between the meaty part of my right hand.  I stand a little taller and it makes it more comfortable to putt.  Also moves me closer to the ball, almost looks like the heel of the putter is off the ground.

Take your putting stance, bend at the waist & let your arms hang. Wherever your hands end up, that's where you grip the putter. Could be at the top, bottom or middle of the grip. Doesn't matter. What matters is being tension-free. In my case, honestly, I am not sure 'where' my hands fall on the grip...I think it's near the top, but the point is I don't concern myself with it.

For example, on longer putts I tend to stand a little taller to the ball, so the hands will be higher on the grip.

As well, it depends on the length of your putter. If it's 35 inches versus 33 inches, that will alter where your hands end up.

So again, I wouldn't be concerned where they end up. Just stay free of tension.

When I realized I was choking down, I decided to just trim the putter length.  I use a tapered and oversize putter grip and I wanted to make sure I was holding the proper section of it.  Not much point in using an oversize grip if you're choking down on it to the point it's almost normal grip again.

I often don't choke down on my putter too much.  I really like that smooth pendulum feeling from the weight of the club head.  I would say, I agree with most people on this post that I usually leave approximately 1-2" from the top... probably more error on the side of 1-1.5".
