Are you a digger, picker or a sweeper?

Does the method of contact affect whether your ball flight is high or low?

I am more of a picker unless hitting from deep rough. My trajectory is high with my clubs.

I used to be a sweeper but that led to inconsistent shots for me. I'm more of a guess you would say, digger because I've been working on trapping the ball a lot more. With that, my ball flight is medium to high.

I'm a sweeper. I will hit down on it and take a divot if it's in the rough. I'm hitting it better this way since I used to have a problem with hitting fat shots.

I used to be a sweeper, but it also gave me inconsistent fat shots. I took aspects of the Stack & Tilt and applied it to my swing. I'm a digger now (or take divots) to help me with my weight transfer and trapping the ball.

Im most definately a classic digger. therefore my trajectory is low to medium.

If im trying to take off a little distance because i want to get a higher tracjectory, i will just put the ball a touch further back in my stance.

The method of contact definitely makes a huge difference on your ball flight! Coming down on the ball trapping it before making contact with the ground in key in having consistent ball striking! Now good divot is great as long as it is after the ball. Ball flight is all where you put the ball in your stance, the further back the higher the ball flight. Sounds like most people on this website know there stuff! good luck to all

I'm a big digger and I have a high ball flight. I even take divots with my long irons and sometimes my hybrid and 3 wood.

I'm a picker with a high ball flight. My Mizuno MX-25's have dynalite sl shafts which give a higher ball flight.

depends on the club...

I sweep my woods and hybrids, I pick my 5i-9i, I dig progerssively with anything called a wedge and shaft length decrease

as the shaft length shortens, your swing plane changes

Pick/Sweep are the same thing ...surely ?

I generally sweep my longer irons, 3/4/5 etc, but as I go down, the better the divot .

I pick everything, and virtually never take a divot. When I miss, it's thin or topped.

I read a book once by Phil Rogers.  He advocated playing all shots off the left side of the face.  I adopted this and it simplified my game with great results.  The ball flight is always high, and the ball always lands softly and stays put.  I save my wrists from wear and tear, I don't chew up the course, and my results are very consistent.  To tell you the truth, putting backspin on the ball looks cool, but I I think it is more difficult to do, and you will be less consistent, if you follow that method of striking the ball with your irons.  I don't know if that makes me a picker or sweeper.  When I set up to the ball, I bend at the hips.  I use the Ernest Jones approach to swinging the clubhead.  I can tell you that this method lets you realize that every swing can feel and actually be the same. I swing no differently for my iron shots or drives or fairway wood shots.  It simplifies the game for me.  It is the best thing you can do to become a more consistent golfer.  Try Phil Rogers and Ernest Jones in their thinking.  Golf will become a whole lot easier for you.  Please read my other post on the dominant hand in golf.  All I can say is try it for awhile, and see if you don't drop tons of strokes off your scorecard.  I believe the more you can play by feel, and less by swing mechanics, the faster you will improve, and the improvement will last.

OK, OceanDJJack has now revived 2 vintage threads from 2008 or earlier. And it may be my pessimistic attitude, but I'm getting a Patrick57 like vibe here.

I'm a sweeper. My 56* has a bounce of 8 and my 60* with a bounce of 7. The hardest part is... such as playing today and it was raining all day, just enough to be annoying but not enough to get off the course, I go right beneath the ball so I had to change my approach. When its wet I generally have a pretty hard time taking  good swing with my sand and lob wedge which I hate cause I would rather take a full swing with a 56 than a feel/finesse shot with my 51* pitching wedge.

I was thinking the same thing..... ....and rather than introducing himself, establishing some credibility, and easing into the community, the first two posts, old threads notwithstanding, strike me as somewhat arrogant attempts to "coach up" the rest of us hackers. But maybe that's just me being grumpy this morning.
