Hi. This year I got down to a 1.6 handicap, but I'm probably a 6 handicap when it comes to putting. As a result, I've decided to dedicate my winter to putting. I've re-read Dave Pelz's Putting Bible recently, and want to invest in some of the proper training tools to stabilize my putting game over the next few months. I'd consider myself a very good green reader--the strategy aspect is there--I'm just not a good executer (my stroke is inconsistent, especially on 3-4 footers, putts that break away from me, high-pressure putts, etc.)

Over the last few weeks, I've putted on my carpet with books set up on each side of the putterhead for a makeshift "track," but I'm obviously looking for something more.

I only worry because his book often sounds like an infomercial for his expensive products. That's why I'd appreciate everyone's advice on what tools work best, and what is the most economical way to get them (maybe something that works just as well but isn't "Dave Pelz" branded, therefore cheaper).

I'm not looking for gimmicky products--just aides that will facilitate the development of a more consistent, confident putting stroke.

Thank you for your suggestions!

i would suggest a putting lesson with your local PGA teaching professional. One hour and you will see a huge difference!

Thanks for the responses. I saw the Z Factor on golf channel and I am very tempted. It is expensive, though. Additional recommendations for that or another product?

I do have a pro look at my putting form a couple times a year. They approve of it and don't adjust too much--it's just on-course repitition that is unreliable.

Eyeline golf has some very good training tools. I use the alignment mirror ($40) and love it.

Just wondering if you use the sharpie line on the ball, this i find was a great help to me,my boss who is a +2 handicap sometimes putts the short putts with one hand if he is suffering from the yips, said it takes the pull factor e.t.c out of the stroke.
