  1. 1. What is the most gratifying of the basic golf shots?

    • Piercing drive hit square in the middle of the club face
      13
    • A well struck crisp iron shot
      39
    • A long putt for par or better
      30

There are many types of golf shots. Drives, irons, chips, sands, behind the tree, etc. If you narrow it down to three basics, which is the most satisfying to you?

1.) A piercing drive struck right on the middle of the club face.
2.) A well struck, crisp iron shot.
3.) A long putt for par or better.

For me, there's nothing like hitting a clean iron shot. The feeling of little to no resistance, the click of the ball, and the sound of the ball screaming through the air. It's so very cool. Sinking a long putt is probably the most exciting because of the slower build up of drama. But for me, there's nothing like hitting a perfect iron.

Can't answer that... for me any well hit shot is a good feeling, and it doesn't matter where it comes from.

The shot that goes in.

I chose the iron shot but I like well hit fairway woods or hybrids the best. The one that gets me pumped are the chips/pitches that go in.

All shots feel good when hit right. But I gotta go with a well hit iron shot.

Nothing better than hitting the sweet spot with the ball flying high and drawing straight at the pin.

Nothing compares with a solid iron shot where the ball seems to compress against the grooves.....flush feeling.........wish it happened more often.

Better than a crisp iron I think is a sensually struck wedge shot from about 70-110 out that you know is going to be close and stop dead as soon as you pinch the ball off the turf and see that divot soar gracefully through the air.

Still, to me, there's no better feeling than knocking down a birdie putt. I don't care if it's 2 feet or 50; it feels good. Watching the ball track the exact line you saw in your head with the exact speed and hearing that orgasmic sound of the ball rattling around the cup is far and away the most satisfying shot.

I think it's because you can hit a solid iron shot and still miss your target by 30 feet and still be relatively satisfied, but with a putt, the margin for error is so slim (< 4.25 inches) that there's really only one way to be satisfied: holing it.

Any shot that comes off exactly as I saw it beforehand.

I've chipped in four times in the last 54 holes. I feel very blessed, and am thankful. Holing shots and taking zero putts on holes has been very gratifying lately.

It's a tie between a perfect putting stroke that goes in (between the sound/feel of contact and the sound of the ball dropping into the cup) and a well struck 7 iron shot/feel (nice click/feel).

I wish that we could vote twice, because my favorite is a tie between the perfectly hit driver and the perfectly hit putt. I played an average round today in the rain and about 40 degrees, however I had about 3 incredible drives and 1 great putt.
I love it when the my BIG BERTHA FUSION FT-3's titanium face and the ball strike just perfect. The sound is awesome, and the flight is beautiful.
I hit 1 good putt today, I did it ANNIKA style { by aligning and striking the putt, then rather than watch the path, you listen for the sound of the ball going in the cup } and that is an awesome sound, when the ball rattles into the cup.

As much as I love pureing a nice tee shot with my driver, I'd have to say a pure iron shot that feels like a marshmellow (especially a long iron) and goes exactly where you wanted it, like a foot from the hole.

Probably the MOST gratifying shot is an iron shot from the fairway that GOES IN for eagle!

Fortunately, I've been able to do this twice! 8-iron on a par 4 and a SW on a par 5.

The only shot I can imagine that would be more gratifying (or exciting) would be a hole-in-one on a par 3.

For me, it has to be a good lengthy putt for par. Putts are the the capstone shot of the hole, and when it's made for par, I feel like I've gotten away with one. Drives and iron shots are great, but the margin of error for those shots in terms of their result is greater. When a 300-yard = a 2-foot putt in strokes, for me the answer is easy.
