I am gonna throw up a great topic... Set makeup and why? I know most of u have there clubs in their sigs but I was just wondering why?

Here's mine:

Driver: TechPower LD 460 5 degrees... Its in there because I wanted a lower trajectory... and slightly more run on wide open par-fives etc...

3-wood: TaylorMade r7 st 15 degrees... To fill the gap between my driver and 5-wood

5-wood: TaylorMade r7 st 18 degrees... I used to carry a 2-iron... I wanted a higher trajectory for second shots into long par-fives

Irons (3-PW): No hybrids here... my longest iron is a 3

Wedges: (GW, SW): 52 and 56, don't need 60 degree... might be doing a 54/58 set-up soon... as I have a 49 degree PW

Putter: Well to putt... lol

Mainly I'm looking why you picked the driver loft... your transition clubs over there counterparts... and why u picked the wedges that u did...

What's in Shane's Bag?

Driver-Went with 9.5, keeps the ball flight down a little bit, feels better than a 10.5 to me. Went with a higher launching shaft-the Matrix ALTUS, the combo gives me a fiarly medium ball flight with good run after it lands. went with Stiff, think i get a little more power out of it.

3 wood- went 14.5 with a Xstiff (271 CPM) and lowerlaunching. I like it for days when the fairway is playing pretty dry, can run that sucker forever, but a good strong swing can still get it up in the air a ways. is mainly for days the driver isnt working, and for going to par 5's with no carry.

Hybrid-this takes place of my 1 iron, can tee off with it if i wanna go over trees that i cant get the 3 wood over, or going to par 5's in two that have more carry. dont really use it on par 3's, as my irons handle most of those. Am gonna upgrade the shaft to an ALTUS HB

Irons-Blades, 2-pw with no 3 iron. i like the 2 iron because it works great for tee shots on days im not swinging woods well, can get to par 5's with it, etc etc. Have X100 SL's that i like, but may go to Proj X pretty soon, not sure, need to get refitted for the upcoming season.

WEdges- went 53-60, mainly because the strong suit of my game is my wedges, i dont need 3 or 4 of them to get teh ball close,i like the 53 for chips, but the 60 is used most around the green. play the 60 both open and square, so both chips and flops, i like its versatility moreso than the 58.

putter-duh

Titleist 905r UST V2 X-Flex 8.5 - Longest driver after my club fitting.

Ping V2 3 wood: 3 wood is the hardest club in the bag to hit, love the extra forgiveness, also wanted something with a nice high trajectory for accuracy on shorter narrow par 4's and also softer landing coming into par 5's

Ping Rapture Hybrid: I use this on non windy days because I enjoy the extra forgiveness over a 3 iron

Irons (3,4-PW ): Mizuno MX 200, I chose these because I like the extra forgiveness, but they are still forged and are still a compact clubhead with not that much offset. I keep 2 MP 67's irons in the trunk for practice at the range.

Gap Wedge: I had my Mizuno MX 200's bent weaker to MP 52 lofts. the PW was 45 degrees by default, now it is bent to 47 to try and close the gap between my 52 degree gap wedge.

Sand wedge: 56 degree, 12 or 14* bounce , cant remember.

Lob wedge: 60 degree 8 degree bounce.

Putter: Guerin Rife 2 Bar. Love the 2 bar alignment and it is a very forgiving putter.

Grips: on all clubs they are cord, because my hands sweat a lot.

Balls: Titleist ProV1x , matches my swing speed the best, longer than Prov1 by 10+ yards off the driver. I put tons of spin on the ball so still holds greens even with long irons. Perfect ball for me.

Bag: Sun Mountain , don't know model, top of the line carry bag. Won it by taking low gross in a tourney.

Gloves: Footjoy Softjoy I believe they are called. Because they are quality leather and soft.

There's no such thing as a +5.2 handicap. The lowest the index goes is +3.5.
  • Driver I can hit this driver long and controlled. I love the shaft/loft combination.
  • 4 wood I find the 4 wood much more versatile than a 3 wood. It's easier to hit. It's easier to hit accurately. It's only a few yards short of a 3 wood. I can shape it right to left easily, or hit it dead straight. I can cut it a little.
  • 3-PW I love the shot making ability of the S59 Tours. They are deadly accurate.
  • wedges I feel good with this combo from virtually any distance inside 110.
  • putter. The 350gram head on the 33 inch putter is perfect for me.

Driver: went with the FTi 9º because I demo'd one from the pro shop and absolutely bombed it and kept it in the fairway all day

FW Woods: honestly, i went with the Sonartec GS Tours because of all the hype they get on another forum. i never even hit one until i bought my 3 wood off ebay after reading all the rave reviews. and in my case, the reviews were spot on. they are the best FW woods i've ever hit. for once a club lived up to its hype

Irons: I bought the Tour Edge V-Blades because i wanted something a little more forgiving than a regular forged blade, but something that would also give me feedback on off-center strikes. i also got a killer deal on a brand new set of them which didnt hurt.

Wedges: This is something Im not dead-set on. I am constantly switching out my wedges.

Putter: I like the traditional 8802 style putters, but I wanted something with a little more weight to it. I tried several different putters over the last 2 years: Odyssey XG9, Wilson 8862, Wilson 8802's, etc etc etc and finally bought a Louiseville Golf 2500 putter. It is an 8802 traditional style head that I had altered that weighs in at 355 grams. Im going to stick with this for now because my putting has improved greatly this past year

Bag: Although I love the Staff bags and was using a Bridgestone staff bag, then a Titleist staff bag, i finally bought an Ogio Grom and havent looked back since. Im getting older and the heavier staff bags were becoming too much of a pain to lug around. I love my Grom.

Driver - Titleist 907D1 - chose the driver because my old one was not forgiving enough and i needed something that was a little easier to hit and could still allow me to work the ball. Shaft was what came on the club and even tho i may need an x-stiff i thought that it was too nice to take off and didnt want to spend the money on a new one.

2 Hybrid - TM Rescue Mid TP - I love this club, my dad picked up on ebay for me for 7 dollars! He said if you like it keep it if not you can trade it for 10 bucks. I tried it and loved it. Its more accurate than a 3 wood and more versitile off the ground and many 3 woods so thats why i use this.

3 Hybrid - TM Rescue TP - I got this because it is the degree difference and distance matches between my 4 iron and my 2 Hybrid. Helluva club, all my friend that try it want to buy it off of me.

Irons - 4-PW Titleist 695cb - I love these irons. Before i had the 775cb which were good but with regular flex i needed new shafts to adjust to my swing speed and it was less expensive to get a new set and after demoing a bunch i loved these. More Forgivng than i expected but it still gives me all the shot making possibilities i want.

Wedges - 48*, 54*, 58* Vokeys - This degree combonation fits with what my PW in my set is and there is a good gap between the distances which is nice.

Putter - Futura Phantom - Another Ebay special from my dad. Picked up for 50 bucks and i havent put it down. Love the changeable weights in the bottom good for when im playing the nice country club fast greens on caddy monday's and i need a lighter weight then i can switch it back to the home muni slow green weight.

Alright - I'll play...

Driver (TaylorMade R540XD)- it's an older model that I've tried to replace several times but I can't find anything I can hit consistently as long and controlled. It's a TM Stiff shaft, 55 grams with soft tip and is 9.5* loft. It hits high, but is almost always in play.

3 Wood (Mizuno F50)- this club is also a few years old now. I have a steel shaft (R Flex) in it and typically only use it off tee as second driver. I seldom need or want it off turf.

2H (Mizuno CLK Fli-Hi)- I also have a steel shaft (R Flex) in this. Like the 3W, this doesn't get used that much off turf, although it sees more action than 3W in that respect. This basically replaces a 3H because it's steel shaft, but trajectory is lower and it's easier to control.

4H and 5H (Mizuno CLK Fli-Hi)- 2 clubs I use quite a bit from everywhere. I have been playing a 4H for several years to replace my 3I and 4I. I have R flex graphite shafts in both of these. The 5H is something I added this year. It's a little longer than 5I, but helps fill gap between 4H and 5I from before. I love the trajectory of these clubs and the 5H I have no trouble choking up to cut the distance off a bit.

6I-GW (Cobra S9) - Steel R shafts. When I bought these back in 2006 (first year they were on market), I was really struggling with digging too deep on divots so I wanted something with a wider sole. I lost some playability with them, but I've also cut about 5-6 strokes off my handicap since I bought them. I am considering something like the Mizuno MX200 or MP52 in the next year or so.

Wedges (Cleveland CG14 and Titleist Vokey Design Spin Milled) - 54 and 58. I used to play a 56 and 60, but found that I preferred the stronger lofts in both wedges. I've been playing this configuration for several years now.

Putter (Scotty Cameron Futura Phantom) - I originally bought this putter very cheap ($39) out of a used bin. I was just playing around at Golf Galaxy with used putters because I had been struggling with putter stroke. I originally bought it more as a practice aid than to play with, but it soon found it's way into the bag. This center shafted putter has 3 dots that are supposed to be hidden from view on stroke and it's helped me so much with my stroke. I still have a Tri-Ball putter as well, but have problems leaving the face open at impact. The Futura has helped this. I am still considering going back to a center shafted 2 ball putter though. I have found with my stroke (which is more of a straight stroke) that I need to have a center shafted model or the putts turn ugly.

The only clubs that are safe from replacement at this time are Driver (although I'm always looking for something better), 4H and 54* wedge. Everything else knows it better perform or into the trunk it goes.

You might wanna check your facts there buddy

, I know what you said to be false on the CONGU system, and would assume its false on your system as well. My bag - Nike Sasqautch Tour 9.5 with Stiff V2 - use this loft because I do not have a high ball flight, this provides me with the ball flight I like to see, allows a good mixture of carry and roll. I would consider going to a higher launching shaft with a lower loft in the summer to take advantage of the hard fairways. Cleveland Hibore 15 with Stiff V2 - Love the head, a bit too big if I was being picky, same shaft as driver for consistency, although I still believe the shaft isn't right for me. (With Nike head cover). Nike Slingshot tour 18 with Standard Stiff shaft - got this for free, and it complemented my Nike theme nicely, provides a nice high ball flight and is easy to work, probably my favorite club in the bag. Irons - Snake Eyes 600B/C with Stiff DynaLite shafts, 3 - 5 cavity 6 - PW blade. Use the DynaLite shaft as I prefer a lighter feeling iron. Wedges - Nike SV (black) 52 and 60, love the look and feel of these, provide very good spin and control. Putter - undecided, luckily I do not play competitive golf over the winter so have plenty of time to find a new one, although currently using an original Ping Answer putter and am holing a lot of putts :) Balls - Nike one Platinum, although I am about to start testing the Bridgestones because I can get them free and their performance is apparently equal/better to that of the Pro-V At the end of the summer 2009 I am going to get myself custom fitted for an entire new set of clubs, the reason for this being: 1) I am at golf college, receiving free coaching and am forever improving (handicap in this case should be ignored as I dont play competitively over winter, and my 'playing handicap' is a lot lower) 2) At college I have access to the gym, and am following a strict gym and diet regime, because of this my body shape will change a lot, as will my strength, power and speed. 3) A lot of my equipment is getting old, and I want to make sure my equipment does not hold me back, it will get to the point where the clubs will just flat out not suit me any more, another year at golf college and the clubs will most likely not be the best 'fit' for me.

In my Ping UCLAN Team Bag

Driver: Titleist 905 T at 9.5 degrees w/ UST V2 66 grams Stiff...... I find this 400 CC head to be infinitely more workable than anything else I've tried and strongly dislike 460cc "self correctors".

Transition Clubs: 16 and 20 degree Adams Idea Pro Hybrids w/ VS By You's..... 16 degree is, for me, a more diverse and workable alternative to a traditional 3-wood. 20 degree is probably the most versatile club in the bag, offering 5-wood distance, as well as long iron playability from virtually any lie.

Irons: 4 thru Wedge Cobra Pro CB's w/ Project X's....... Don't carry a 3-Iron as the 4-Iron is strong lofted. Replaced my MP 33's w/ these last March and find them to be an ideal size and shape for a cavity-back. The soles' radius and camber allow for great playability from virtually everything lie, tight to fluffy, as well as side-hill lies and from the rough. They also offer very predictable flights and distance control, w/ no "hot spots".

Wedges: 56 and 60 degree Vokey 200 Series...... Steady and dependable, no frills. Again very predictable playability, both on full shots and around the greens. I did have the grooves softened to reduce the excessive spin that came from the "modified U Grooves".

Putter: SC Newport 2 Oil Can "Oval Track"...... Prefer the feel of carbon steel and a 330 gram head. Also prefer the feel/sound of the Oval-Milled cavity to dog-eared milling. Switch out to a Newport 2 Pro Platinum w/ a re-milled face during the winter months, as the finish is less fragile.

DRIVER i chose a high loft 11.5 and a low launch shaft (grafalloy blue) and this combination works great for me i get a great ball flight not too high not to low and plenty of distance.

HYBRID I took the 3 wood out of the bag as the 2i HALO is so easy to hit off the tee , also it is much more versatile of the deck than a 3 wood, i loose a little distance but ill take accuracy over distance anyday

IRONS CG Gold 3-p I chose some more forgiving irons as i dont get the time to practice enough to be able to hit "players" clubs i chose the golds as they still have a tradational look (not a GI shovel) but are very forgiving

WEDGES CG 14 52 & 56 It was between these and Vokeys seeing as though the rest of my bag is Cleveland i went with the CG's. Am thinking of getting a 60 but not sure how much i would use it

PUTTER Putters are all about feel and personal choice, i tried a lot and the oddysey just felt the best.

BALL All of the top quality tour balls are good ive tried them all but i just like the bridgestone the best plus i can get them online brand new for less than half the price of a prov1 or tour i

Driver: Ping G5 10.5* Stiff Shaft - I tried out several and the Ping felt and sounded the best to me. I originally tried a regular shaft but kept duck-hooking it. Tried stiff and all was well.

4-Wood: Sonartec NP-99 17* - I used to have a 3-wood and a 5-wood in my bag. The problem was that I wasn't hitting them consistently and the difference in distance between the two wasn't that great. I decided to split the difference with a club that had a loft in between the two and felt great to hit.

21* Hybrid - Callaway X-Hybrid - Can't hit a 3-iron consistently but can easily hit this club. It's great not only off the tee but off the short stuff.

24.5* Hybrid - Nickent 5DX - I received an offer in the mail that allowed me to trade in an old Nickent hybrid for a brand new 5DX. I was able to get a new hybrid with the perfect loft (it's perfectly between my 21* hybrid and my 27* 5-iron) for just a Benjamin. Sweet!

Irons - Mizuno 5-PW - I wanted these for the longest time. I hit them at a golf shop and they were buttery and beautiful. I read every review of them. The problem is that I couldn't justify the cost. Well, that's when fate intervened. My boss was looking at our bank's rewards program and we saw that we could get an MP-57 set for just a fraction of the total points we had. Schwing!

Wedges - Eidolon GW, SW, and LW - I've been so torn on bounce angles and I think Eidolon's technology addresses my issues perfectly. I want to be able to hit all of my wedges from tight lies but I also need them to perform from the rough and sand. The v-sole takes care of it.

Putter - Odyssey 2-Ball White Steel Blade - It's all about feel and this does it for me. I love the sight-lines, the weight, and the feel off the face.

Clicgear 2.0 Push Cart - I have a balky back and suffered big time (3+ strokes) on the back nine. My wife bought me this for my birthday and I'm thrilled. It saves my backs and lets me think about my next shot as I'm walking towards it...

Ogio Vision Stand Bag - It's light, it has enough pockets (and they're in the right places), and the colors are nice.

You would

Ass ume that? You're comfortable making an assumption after telling me to check my facts? Brilliant. I live in the U.S. We use the USGA Handicap Index. The range is from +3.5 to 36.4 for men; or in your case, +3.5 to 40.4 for women. I was questioning whether the OP was shooting a constant 66 and 67, or better. Tiger averaged 67.79 in 2000. That's the lowest ever on tour. The OP should be able to beat Tiger comfortably? Here's a link, Buddy. http://www.usga.org/playing/handicap...calculator.asp

I'm going out on a limb here, but i'm guessing the courses Tiger plays are setup much tougher than Mr +5.2

I saw an article once in Golf Magazine where they estimated Tigers handicap to be about +10

If he's that good the course index wouldn't change much. The course wouldn't matter.

The OP is from Ithaca, NY. Maybe it's Ken Venturi. If it is, all apologies, and great job in the '64 US Open.

You would

determining handicap is more than just how many over par, or under par someone usually shoots. the formula is:(Your Score – Course Rating) X 113 / Slope Rating = Score Differential

im pretty sure the pga tour ( and anyone who is considered a professional) uses a different handicap system, becuase their numbers are off the usga's handicap chart. Believe it or not, tiger's handicap is about a +8 sources: tigers handicap: http://findarticles.com/p/articles/m...4/ai_109467553 handicap formula: http://www.cincigolf.com/ngn3.htm As i said though, im not sure what handicap system the pga tour uses, but its a special one, none the less.

Not true, the course difficulty for the US Open is much higher than what is printed on the scorecard.

Much faster greens, tucked pins, narrowed fairways, ridiculous rough.
