Hi everyone,

I've been playing for the past 10 months, I have probably played 20 rounds or so in that time period. I bought a cheap set of Confidence irons 3-PW graphite shafts in regular flex 4 years ago when I came down to West Palm Beach for college. I hate them now that I've been playing. Being on a college budget it is hard to walk into an Edwin Watts or the like without being laughed out o hte store for looking for used LEFTY iron sets in decent shape for under $200. (Although I have found that Golf Galaxy has the nicest and most helpful staff)

I'm looking for steel shafts. Any suggestions on what sets I could find in that range cheap. I'll probabaly only use them for a year or so. Thanks!

Being lefty definitely limits your choices. I have seen left-handed sets new and used at the local Golf Galaxy, but most are more expensive than you would want to spend. For the most part you should look on eBay for a used set from one of the major manufacturers (Callaway, Mizuno, TaylorMade, Adams and most other 'big names' all make lefty clubs that are easy to hit for novice players). You might be able to find left handed Callaway Big Bertha Irons from 2005 or so that would be in your price range and would be good clubs for your level. Just look for and avoid the following words in ads: muscle-back, blade, tour or player iron as those will indicate that the clubs will be more difficult to hit than you'll probably want.

Have you seen this: http://www.leftiesonlygolf.com/

I did find this wth a quick search:
http://www.golfdiscount.com/products/adams-rpm-irons

Those would be good irons for your skill level without you being forced to pay too much (and they are for lefties).

I paid $215 for 15 year old clubs but I've been totally happy with them (Ping Zing 2). They look super strange to a lot of people though so they're not for everyone...

Best thing is to just get on eBay type in Irons, filter on Golf products, and then look for the "Dexterity" filter which lets you just view left handed sets.

Good Luck!

If I may, I'd like to ad to the mix....
http://www.rockbottomgolf.com/leftiesironsets.html

They are currently running 15% off everything. They have a new old stock set of 2002 Callaway Big Berthas, 4-AW in stiff graphite for $255 right now. There is also a "make an offer" option. You might could get them for $200 if you ask! I'm not sure the Big Bertha line has gotten a great deal better since these came out. But that's JMHO.

From what I've seen, lefty used clubs are often a little cheaper than righties. There just isn't as much demand for the person looking to unload a set of left handed clubs. That in my experience seems to make it a buyer's market. I can think of several sets of irons I've seen, slightly used good models, that went in your price range. I'd look at them and think, I wish I was a lefty.

Good Luck!

I recall that a lot of people liked the Dunlop Tad Moore's that rockbottomgolf has, and for $59 you can't get much cheaper.

Welcome Lefty! Equipment is much easier to find for lefties now than even a few years ago. Ebay is a wonderful edition to the assortment choice. I think you have the right idea to not spend to much to soon. A basic brand name set should give you what you need - anything 3-5 years old is fine for you. I just sold on ebay earlier this year a one year old set of Cleveland CG Gold irons which would be a very good fit for your needs - they went for $200. Older Callaways - either X12 or X14 would also be very good. Just remember don't get tied into the hype of new clubs. good luck.

A local golf shop by my parents house in New York offered me the Nike Slinghot 4D's for $250 only the 5 and 9 irons had been demoed. Any thoughts on these?

Ebay is your friend.

Pick up any set from one of the big name manufacturers made within the last 5 years. Dont buy last years or this years models... get past the market hype and you will love your new set of used clubs picked up on the cheap.

I bought a set of vfoil 455 macgregors on "the bay" for 80 bucks last night. They are great "muscleback" irons.....

The Vfoil 455 Macgregors are outstanding. I have the 50 degree as my gap wedge. I love it. Great feel. Very forgiving.

Both clubs will be fine for your skill level. The MX-19's will be a little more forgiving and being that they are Mizuno, will feel great. You'll be spoiled for Mizuno's forevermore after those, though.

I've heard a lot of great things about Mizuno. I demoed a set of Adams A30S yesterday at Edwin Watts (but they wanted $400) and I like them a lot. I'm so confused! They also had a set of Adams RPM on sales for $199.
