What driver is Phil Mickleson using? I thought last week when Callaway had to rush the driver to USGA to get it confirmed it was a FT-9 but today while watching him tear it up when they showed his bag he had a Diablo headcover on his driver. So which is it?

Phil is using the Ft-9 TH. Unlike the Ft-9 Tour with the Callaway s2h2 hosel, the TH model has a standard hosel that makes the club appear more open without actually having to bend the face open. This helps Phil fight the problem he has with pushed drives.

And if anyone cares to know, the shaft in it is the new Matrix HD-6 prototype.

Funny you should say that because his bad misses this week have been hooks instead of fades.

What's up with the "Diablo" stuff from Callaway??? I'll never buy one of their clubs or use one of their balls, etc... again.

Looks like the CEO has sold his soul to the devil. Not to mention an absoultely stupid marketing move, like that matters though. Hope they enjoy the money.

I respectfully disagee, they are right up there with Titleist, Taylormade 1-2-3, I have hit the FT-5 driver and it's a great club, but why throw it all away and name a couple of clubs after the devil??? The "Latin Gangster" type Callaway logo made me wonder, the "Diablo" brand cemented my thoughts about Callaway.

You mean the Chevron? Does that mean the oil company Chevron is also using the devil to sell you gasoline to power your devil inspired Automobiles?

If your that religious, you should probobly play a game other than golf.

???????????????

There must be an underlying reason why you don't like Callaway, I don't buy that the only reason you don't like them is because they have named their new product line after the devil. I play callaway products because I believe it's a good product, not because their marketing up to this point didn't involve the devil???

I am an junior golfer (16 years old) and i used to be a die hard callaway fan even thought i just bought a whole set of clubs to start golfing. Now entering my 3rd year of competitive high school golf i can barley tolerate callaway. I used to play the big bertha golf ball all the time because it had great distance off the tee but then our coach gets us Titleist NXT Tours for matches and once i played this ball i won't go back. My scores dropped just by having more feel around the green with this ball. THe big bertha no matter what ran out like a half mile on the green and the NXT's settle quickly. My friend has all callaway clubs: His irons are okay, I hate his x hybrid (Feels like a block of wood on the end of the shaft), his 3 wood is the same as the hybrid. He doesn' have a callaway driver. When searching for a new driver i looked at the big bertha and hyber x and both seemed to just feel terrible which is why i went with COBRA. However i do like the looks of the new diablo stuff and the hybrid is getting good reviews. With 100 bucks of birthday money in my pocket i can't wait to get to the Golf Show in pittsburgh and see if i can catch a deal on some woods and hybrids to finish completeling the redo of the top clubs in my bag.

Why is that?

Well i guess hitting a golf ball could be considered "violent"

No, not at all, like I said I think the FT5 is an awesome club, probably the best driver i've hit. I just think it's a very strange marketing move when they are at the top of the heap as far as manufacturer's go....it's weird. Callaway knows that they have alienated any religious buyers from a purchase with this "Diablo" line, it doesn't make sense to me why they would do it? Or maybe I just don't get it? In this thriving economy I'm sure sales are going well for all the golf companies. I don't know, the Tampa Bay "Devil" Rays, dropped the "Devil" from the name and went from a bottom feeder baseball team to the world series. We'll see I guess.

WHO CARES? The could call the driver the "Buttsniffer" I would play it if it worked. If you are worried about the name and what your sunday crew would think, or if it would mes with your religious beliefs, I say Lighten Up, there are worse things in the world right now for you to worry about over what golf manufactures name their clubs.

Seem to have stuck a nerve? At what point have I ever said I was religious??? Actually have not been to church (other than weddings or funerals) in over 20 years.

Just asking a simple question on why a top tier manufacturer would do such a move??? Maybe I haven't been to church in 20 years, and yes there are more important things going on in the world right now...I didn't know we were playing a game of "Let's state the obvious". Just a company trying to pay a debt maybe???

I mean, I know based on the rest of your comments in this thread that you're not religious, but I still can't believe that you're seriously still trying to hump this argument into submission...

If you're not religious, what's the beef? I assume you also boycotted Hoover for the Dirt Devil, Little Debbie for Devil Dogs and Devil Cremes... I'm sure with a Google search or two I could keep this up for days. My bet is that you'll answer, "No, I didn't" because the underlying argument here has nothing to do with the Devil. It's clearly irrational and borderline trolling. Get over it. The implication of the name, in this instance, is that it's a hot club and that it's so good it's cheating. Same with the balls. At least that's my educated guess from a marketing standpoint as I haven't read any of the official material on the products other than spec-sheets. Also, if Callaway'd sold its soul to the devil you think they'd have Tiger in their stable. Or at least Phil wouldn't be such a choke artist...
