Bought the majority of my clubs close to two years ago when I moved to the US from Ireland, they were actually a wedding present from my wife!

Anyways I have played a lot of golf in the intervening couple of years, probably over 100 rounds. I realised it was time to get my clubs re-gripped, after testing a few I finally plumped for the Golf Pride multi-compound.

Played my first round with them today and was very pleased. Forgot how different the club feels in your hand when the grips are new and fresh! For all you folks that are gearing up for spring and the restart of your golf season I'd seriously recommend checking whether you need to get your clubs re-gripped, pretty cheap investment that will improve your control.

BTW I was able to colour-code my grips so my fusion woods and hyrbids have a back and orange grip and my irons (Ping G5) and vokeys have black and blue grips, very smart looking!

This forum has been great for opening my eyes about regripping my clubs. The only problem about learning how to grip clubs myself has been that I had an almost new set of Lamkin Crosslines on my clubs, these came off so that I could experiment and try the Multicompounds. Fortunately, I also learned how to save grips thanks to an article on the Sandtrap!
I like the Multicompounds so far. The red ones matched my bag. I was interested in the white ones too, but went with the obvious choice.

I regrip my clubs almost too often. I learned how to do it myself, it's very therapeutic. It also makes a huge difference in the feel and performance of your clubs. Your grips wear out over time and you don't even notice it is happening until you feel a new grip in comparison.

If you don't regrip (at least your scoring clubs) once a season, you're cheating yourself.

By doing it yourself, you can get grips when they are on sale and stock up. Also, whenever I sell a club, it always features a new grip! (a clearance one )

Here's a video showing fastest way to regrip a club.

that's sweet but it's not like anyone has that compressor lying around their garage. How much do they run for?

You can get an air compressor for about $100. I don't know how much that tool he used is.

I think I could regrip all my clubs in about 30 minutes. Since I don't do it everyday, I don't need to be able to do it superfast. It was a cool video, but I'm a little curious as to how well the grips work. Playing with new grips is so awesome. I have to regrip my 3 wood. It has a Winn grip on it and it's completely dead. I'm thinking a multicompound grip like the ones that are on my wedges. Maybe though to match the shaft. I'm planning on doing the color coding when my other grips get worn out.

I just regripped my clubs last week. It was only the second time I have regripped a set and it's very easy. The first time I practiced on my old set just in case I messed up. I definitely say it's worth it to learn how to regrip yourself.

I have an air compressor and tried taking a grip off using the compressed air once. I didn't have a tool like he had but I had a nozzle that fit in the hole of the shaft. I was a little too quick to pump air in and wound up having the grip blowing up like a baloon and then popping. I guess I needed that safety thing he had!

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

I was taught how to re-grip clubs by a friend of mine. He had a club repair shop (just for him and buddies) in his garage.

It's not very hard, and very rewarding. However, I've seen a few places that offer free labour if you re-grip at least 8 clubs so the saving are not that much, but the reward is pretty good.

I have to do mine again, as I just started playing again recently, and the clubs could certainly benefit from a re-grip. I have used Golf Pride Tour Velvet Cord Round for as long as I can remember.

Cheers, Allan

You can get an air compressor for about $100. I don't know how much that tool he used is.

The tool is $44.95 at

www.golfersmate.net and it works well. It takes me longer to plug in my air compresser and get all my clubs out than it does to change the grips, and they hold and are ready to play immediately. Home Depot or Lowes sells 3 gallon air compressors for around $100, or $200 with 3 different trim nail guns. Tell your wife you need it to install the crown moulding shes been wanting.

I like the New Decades on my irons and woods, any club that I usually take a full swing with, but I didn't care for them on my wedges.

I like the tour velvet on those... just my prefferance maybe.

I do my own grips, actually, I think it's quite fun. Customizing your own clubs is a cool concept, which is why I started doing my own paintfills. Now, I just have to learn to reshaft (expensive hobby).

I like those grips, but I would think the white ones would really show the dirt quickly. I used to have a yellow grip on my putter and it looked old well before it's time. Whenever I wash my hands at the turn, it's amazing how filthy my paws get on the golf course. Maybe it's just me.

You can get a compressor pretty cheap. They are a cool thing to have in the garage. It's also so much easier maintaining your tire pressure when all you have to do is flip a switch at home. I saw my gas station just went from free air to charging. One thing about the air golf gripper tool, is you can practice with an old grip and club a bunch of times before you install/risk any new grips. Once a grip is installed, it's on there as good, or better than the old tape/solvent slider method. You can also reposition it days or weeks later if you wish. The only time you need to cut a grip off is if it's really old and dry rotted.

For any of you that have the Grip Mate, when putting a new grip on, how easy is it to adjust the grip? For instance if you're using a grip with decals that align with the club face, how easy is it to align the grips correctly?
